JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Israeli forces overnight continued their campaign to rout out terror in the Palestinian territories, after a bomb killed seven people Wednesday -- including four Americans and two Israelis -- at Hebrew University.

At least 80 others were injured -- several critically -- when a bomb planted in a handbag blew up in a cafeteria during lunch at the university in Jerusalem. Four Americans sustained minor injuries, according to the U.S. State Department.

Palestinian sources in Gaza told CNN the radical Islamic group Hamas claimed responsibility for the bombing. Hamas said the attack was in retaliation for last week's Israeli missile strike in Gaza that killed the commander of the Hamas military wing and 14 other people, nine of them children.
