| Thomas Trask the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, helps spark revival at New Life Assembly of God. The Holy Spirit fell in a mighty way in the evening service after the people took up his challenge to pray |
The ways of the Holy Spirit are so wonderful! How could you possibly describe them? The Lord plans things to fit into His divine plan - way beyond anything we could possibly ask or think. No wonder the Word of God says in Ephesians 3:20, "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think." And again it says in Isaiah 55:8-9, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 64:4 says, "For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him." We are in our annual Camp Meetings, at New Life Assembly of God in Sherwood, Oregon. During last year's camp meeting, Pastor Jeff Dorothy had a wonderful idea - to invite Thomas Trask to New Life. Well, as it turned out, the only time he could come was August 18, 2002. This, was by divine appointment, because it turned out to be right in the middle of our Camp Meeting. No one here chose these dates it was just how the Lord worked it out.
Thomas Trask is the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in the United States of America. He is the covering, or overseer, of 12,000 churches and over 5 million people. I am not sure, but I think this was only the third time he has come to Oregon in the past 10 years. He is a very busy man, and yet my God did something wonderful for this little church. When Rev. Trask came on Sunday morning, the church was packed. His message was to pray and keep on praying. "Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him" (Acts 12:5).
He challenged the church to pray and not to stop praying until the answer comes. Well, Thomas, I hope you see this, because the people you ministered to Sunday morning took to heart what you said, and put it into practice that evening. They filled the house to overflowing Sunday night. They had to sit outside, because there were so many people. As the Sunday evening service came to a close, I encouraged the people to do what you had asked. Pastor Jeff and I had to leave to go to downtown Portland. It was already almost 8:30 PM. About 9:00 PM, the people were still there praying and singing. Then it happened - the moment we had all been praying for. Suddenly, the Holy Spirit came in like a flood and touched everyone in the building! They started to pray, and shout, and praise, and sing, as never before. Prophecy after prophecy came forth from some who almost never speak out. The Lord moved mightily until almost 11:00 PM. When I returned to the church after 10:30 PM, a whole group of young, junior high boys came running out of the church to tell me how awesome it was. Can you imagine - it did not matter if they were 8 or 80, they were captured in the arms of the Holy Spirit for almost 3 hours. Some told me they just did not want to leave.
My God is an awesome God! As we started the morning service on Monday, the building was almost full. It was so wonderful to see such hunger in the people to pray. Thomas, you brought something wonderful to these meetings. The Holy Spirit is still pouring out a blessing. I want to thank you for coming. I know you did not know who I was, and I know that you were not coming because of me. It was God, and God alone, Who ordered both of our steps to minister together yesterday. I just wanted to thank you for coming. It truly showed me what a wonderful man of God you are.
