A Father's Plea For Prayers
January 23, 2004
By John Sharify
SEATTLE - It was 7:00 a.m. Friday and the city was just waking up.
People were in a hurry, trying to get to work on time. As they flipped through the radio dials they stumbled across complete silence on Star 101.5 FM. They didn't hear anything - but they felt it. They felt the power of prayer. "I want to say that was the most incredible thing

I've experienced what you did on the radio," said one tearful radio caller. Friday morning people everywhere prayed for a boy fighting for his life at Seattle's Children's Hospital. They prayed for Marcus Nagle Jr. who's just 18-months-old. He's very sick with heart and lung conditions.
Strangers prayed for the toddler because his father asked them to.
Marc Nagle made this heartfelt plea on the airwaves: "I just would like maybe a prayer put out on the radio, because he got a cold a regular cold, like a normal kid may get and put him in the hospital. He's very very sick. And he's fighting for his life right now. He needs every prayer he can get right now."
The DJ's were deeply moved. "We felt like we had to do something. Seize the moment, because he was asking so little," said Alan Budwill.
"I think we were pretty choked up in here. I don't think there was a dry eye in the building," said Kent Phillips.
That call for help.... for prayer.... was answered.
The DJ's asked listeners to do something a little unusual.
"Okay why don't we take ten seconds, pray good thoughts a healing hand and God's grace over Marcus and his family," said Phillips.
The airwaves went silent. Something extraordinary happened on this particular morning. We stopped thinking about ourselves for a few seconds to help a family we didn't know. And yes, we prayed.
"It puts perspective of what my day is like, his day is worse," said one caller.
"It's the universal language," explained Phillips, "when a kid is in need, and a parent is hurting who can't stop for ten seconds and pray for him."
The DJ's tell us the phones rang off the hook after Marcus' father called in.
Marcus is in critical condition with complications of his heart and lungs.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on how he's doing.
