Florida Family Pleads for Girl's Return HOMOSASSA, Fla. -- It's been more than a week since 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford disappeared from her home in Homosassa on the Gulf Coast.
The sheriff's office held a news conference Friday 04 March 2005 to dispel rumors that the sheriff said were "running rampant" in the community, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported.
Despite more than a week of searching and a reward worth $115,000, there is still no sign of the girl.
"We have not found Jessica. I wish I could tell you that we did find Jessica, but we have not," said Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy.
Sheriff Dawsy did confirm that Lunsford's grandfather has a history of criminal arrests dating back more than 50 years. In 1954, he was arrested in Indianapolis on a charge of pre-kidnapping.  Homosassa Fl USA Team Amber Alert--An Endangered Missing Child Alert Continues For Missing 9 Year Old Florida Girl.
This is your 5:00 update as to how the case is going for missing 9 year old Jessica Lundsford.Their is no new news on her being found and she is still a endangered missing child this friday night.
Thier seems to be alot of unanswered question about what happen to little 9 year old Jessica Lunsford who has been missing nine days now and what may have happen to her.Rewards Stands at 115,000.

The grandfather of a 9-year-old girl missing since last week has admitted to a decades-old criminal record, including arrests for pre-kidnapping and attempted rape. But police said Friday there was no sign he had anything to do with her disappearance.
Archie Lunsford said Indianapolis authorities arrested him in 1954 on a pre-kidnapping charge during what he said was a custody dispute, Dawsy said. Four years later, he was again arrested in Indianapolis for assault and battery. And in 1959, authorities in Titusville, Fla., arrested him for attempted rape.
 Shortly after the hunt for Jessie began, grandfather Archie Lunsford told detectives of his three arrests during the 1950s, Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy said. Investigators were looking into the backgrounds of relatives who lived with her: the grandparents and father, Mark Lunsford.

Lunsford told detectives no convictions came of the arrests, Dawsy said. However, the sheriff said the difficulty of finding old criminal records meant he could not immediately confirm the stories.
Archie and Mark Lunsford both have undergone lie-detector tests administered by sheriff's detectives and the FBI. Neither man gave answers that would prompt suspicion, Dawsy said.
Jessica "Jessie" Marie Lunsford hasn't been seen since Feb. 23, after her grandmother tucked her into bed at the family's home, about 60 miles north of Tampa. Since then, few clues that would help authorities have turned up.

Missing Girl's Grandfather Has Arrest Record

HOMOSASSA, Fla. -- It's been more than a week since 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford disappeared from her home in Homosassa on the Gulf Coast.
The sheriff's office held a news conference Friday afternoon to dispel rumors that the sheriff said were "running rampant" in the community, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported.
Earlier in the day, rumors circulated that the girl had been found or that her clothes had been found. The sheriff said those were false rumors.
Despite more than a week of searching and a reward worth $115,000, there is still no sign of the girl.
About six members of Team Adam from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children packed up and left Citrus County on Friday. Citrus County deputies said the active search for Lunsford is now being called an investigation. There are still few clues about her disappearance, and many searchers are growing frustrated.
"We have not found Jessica. I wish I could tell you that we did find Jessica, but we have not," said Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy.
Dawsy did confirm that Lunsford's grandfather has a history of criminal arrests dating back more than 50 years. In 1954, he was arrested in Indianapolis on a charge of pre-kidnapping. In 1958, he was arrested for assault and battery, and in 1959, he was arrested in Titusville on an attempted rape charge.
Archie Lunsford told officials that he was never convicted of any of those charges.
"Fifty years ago, the documentation is much different than it is now, and it's not on a computer. We have asked them to go in and research these records so that we can validate Archie's statements," Dawsy said.
The police departments in Indianapolis and Titusville are having a difficult time retrieving the 50-year-old records. Dawsy said he doesn't know if they relate to this case, but he said he's not ruling anything out.
The grandfather did not voluntarily offer up the information about his past. Authorities found out about his record, asked him about it and he admitted to the past charges.
Also, Archie Lunsford; Mark Lunsford, Jessica's father; and Ruth Lunsford, Jessica's grandmother, have all taken stress tests and polygraph tests. The sheriff would not say whether they passed those tests, but he did say that there were no "red flags."
Jessica lives in the house with her father and his parents. Her father told authorities he had returned Thursday morning from a girlfriend's home and was getting ready for work when he realized his daughter's alarm clock was sounding and she wasn't there.
The clothes she had laid out for school were still in place, and none of her shoes were gone. Dawsy said one item missing from her immaculate room was a doll, which he declined to describe.
Dawsy said Lunsford's story checked out.
 Mark Lunsford said his daughter had had little contact with her mother, who Dawsy said had been in Ohio and was being interviewed by the FBI (news - web sites). Michael Brooks, an FBI spokesman in Cincinnati, would not comment on what the FBI discussed with Angela Bryant but said she had not been arrested or detained.
"I don't know where she is," Bryant, 31, of Morrow, Ohio, told The Associated Press in a tearful telephone interview Friday.
Bryant, who has remarried and has a 5-year-old son, added that she hadn't seen her daughter for four years. "Her dad didn't let me see her," she said.
