Intensive Training

This is for people who want to give up and quit on their walk with the Lord...because it's just too hard. I have heard of (or know) so many who after a while just say they can't do it anymore. It was just too hard to keep struggling with that sin...so they gave into it. Too many sad, difficult or horrible things happened to them or their loved ones, so they just didn't want to believe God would allow this to happen...so turned their back on Him. (I'm glad Jesus didn't turn His back on us, when he was going to the cross. The going got tough for Him, but did HE quit? He said, "If it is possible, let this cup pass from Me...nevertheless, not My will but Yours be done.")
I was discussing this with my sister, in light of some who have come out as homosexual or had an affair or lost faith...saying it was too hard to keep going on the Godly path. And she said she asked my nephew which drill instructor he liked the most (in Marines boot camp). When he told her which one, she asked him why. And he said because this guy kept ITing him. She wanted to know what IT was, and he said "Intensive Training." He said he would not have made it through boot camp without this guy applying Intensive Training. The conclusion is obvious: If God has us in Intensive Training, don't fight it or give up. It's for our good, so we will make it through.
Very interesting note: Marines are not allowed to call themselves soldiers, but must call themselves warriors. Ever since I heard that, I think of myself in that light. Do you want to be a soldier or a warrior? On this site we call ourselves "Prayer Warriors," but sometimes I even read on here of those who want to give up...it's just too hard.
Well, I am writing this today to say that no matter how hard it gets, it is not worth giving up. We are told "He who endures to the end, will be saved." Are we going to endure to the end or will we run half way through the course and just decide it's too hard, we can't make it to the end? We are told to run to win the prize. The prize is eternal life with Jesus Christ. Are we going to throw that over because the going gets tough? Are we going to get off the track and quit running?
I think the relationship area is one of the top areas that is causing people to stray. I read of those who are disappointed in God because he won't let them be with a particular person whom they like romantically. Maybe they want to live with someone they aren't married to, and when we tell them that's a sin, they get offended and refuse to give that up in obedience to God and His Word. There are those who say they are homosexual and just can't fight it anymore. They fought it all those years in obedience to Christ, why must they suddenly decide it's just too hard? Or there are those who are unfaithful to their mates...for any number of reasons. Or they decide to get a divorce rather than make their marriage work, when the Bible says you are to lay your life down for your mate (my paraphrase), not give up when it gets too tough. They chose the relationship they want over the relationship with God.
There are so many areas that can cause us to decide the race is too long and too hard, the battle is too intense and too difficult. We all face this every day in some area. Are we going to stay on the track or course, stay on the battlefield or in the trenches? The choice is up to us. And I am praying that all who read this will make the decision to keep going...one day, one step at a time. No-one ever said it was going to be easy. Jesus said, "In this world, you will have tribulation, but, be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

Jerirose, I wholeheartedly agree with your teachings here. When the tough times come, it has always given me the ability to grow closer to God through those times, or move further away from Him.
Sometimes when things pile up He beomes difficult to see through all of the issues and/or pain. He promises to make a way over, above or through circumstances that He might be glorified.
It is His Mercy that I must always hold onto, as He knows every pain and temptation that is present in my heart and life.
His love for me never fails, even though dying to self and cruxifying the flesh is painful, it is the cost of the walk I chose to take when I asked Him to be in charge.
Thanks for sharing Jerirose.Posted 12-20-2008 at 07:01 AM by I Live for This
