My ten year old grandson has been asking me some very tough questions about believing in God. He told me yesterday that he just stopped believing there was a God about a month ago. He seemed satisfied with some brief comments that I made to him but I didn't go into extreme detail because of his age. Are there any Sunday school teachers out there that might have good responses to a 10 year old? I'm not sure I covered all of the bases. Thanks for your help!

it wont require alot of time on your part. im not sure how much time you
spend with your grandson. but prayer is very important.. for the parents and also your grandson. why would he stop believing in God?
he maybe influenced by other kids his age.. im not sure. tough questions can be answered by praying together and asking God to reveal the answer to your grandson. writing the question down along with the date of which it was asked, and following thru when the answer comes.
ive been a sunday school teacher, but im also a mother to a 17 yr old and an 8 year old - boys. i want to encourage you to pray with your grandkids, ask the Lord to surround them with Godly friends, to place them with Godly teachers, to surround them with Godly influences. pray over their present and future. break off any generational curses, annointing of oil over their doors, bedposts, etc. i also want to recommend that- there is a book by stormie omartin called praying for your children. you can pray these prayers over your grandchildren and i believe they have this at christian books stores or even on the internet. just look up stormie omartin.
if you have dish network satellite - you can hook up with skyangel chrisitian programming.( i work there!) its christian based/safe christian television not only for the kids, but for teens and adults. not just preachy tv.
its got very good movies/christian concerts/biblical teachers and etc. you can access their website by going to skyangel.com for further information.
praying WITH my children, and asking God to reveal themselves to him
and spending time in the word. - all beneficial. teach them in the way they should go.. and they wont depart from it.
kids that age are easily influenced, there is a lot of good christian videos/dvds at the christian book store. bibleman is one that my sons really liked. veggy tales also was one that they liked.
i talk to my son about certain cartoons that he watches on tv and compare it with a biblical story. ask God to reveal creative ways to teach your child. nothings IMPOSSIBLE with God. he will reveal creative ways to not only pray for your grandchildren but to also reveal his very self to him. childrens prayers are powerful. if you have a boo boo... (lol)
you can ask them to pray over your cut, or whatever it is. ive done it, or if youre looking for something youve lost. try asking him to pray that God will reveal to you where it is at.
and when a prayer has been answered you can reply - look what God has done!
thats what i would encourage! May the Lord cause you and your son to
ever draw close to the Lord as he reveals himself to you.

I have found that with children you just need to keep to:

1.) The simple truth, depending on their age and comprehension skills.

2.) Listen to them. Don't do all the talking.

3.) Answer only what they ask (don't lecture)

4.) Live like you believe. If kids see doubt, they doubt. This is the hardest one but should be the easiest one.

5.) Admit it if you don't know the answer but make sure you look it up with them so you both know! Remember rules #1 & 3.

6.) Pray... with them... for them... about them... around them... live prayer... live faith... live God.

7.) Don't be afraid to admit to faults that you are working on! Ask their help in praying for you if they ask.

Kids are always willing to believe in God, unless the adults around them are teaching a different doctrine or life style, at age 10 your grandson may be dealing with contractive life styles or unbelief of friends, parents, teachers or other family members. It sort of sounds like he prayed for something and it "didn't work", make sure of his Salvation and teach him repentance so God can hear his prayer and "make it work" for him.

Teach him real prayer, not script "now I lay me"'s.

Teach him how to study the Word for himself.

And most of all...RELAX! He doesn't bite, he is hungry and thirsty for the knowledge that he knows is there but hasn't a clue how to find. At least he is asking you! Gramma!

Thank you guys! I will tell my daughter about skyangel she does have direct tv. I think it would certainly help if my daughter and son-in-law were totally spirit filled but they are still struggling with faith issues. This child was a miracle baby and I know was my gift from God because he is such a joy! He has been with me for about a week because his grandfather died and his mom has been gone. He is very curious about this site. He told me he thought it was stupid to pray on the internet. He asked me if I thought God got on the internet and read these prayers! LOL! I told me that they are not just typed prayers that we are actually praying for each of these individuals and that it was God's way of letting us reach people all over the world. He seemed to think that was very cool!

Thanks again,

Jan
