The other night the Lord gave me a mental picture of a father at the store with his two little boys. As the walked past the aisles they came to a big rack of balls. Excitedly the boys asked their dad for a ball and he agreed to buy o_ne for each of them. All the balls were different colors and had different scents. They each represented a different fruit.
The older boy picked a red ball scented like strawberries, but the younger boy wanted the same kind of ball so he picked o_ne exactly like it. Seeing this the father encouraged the younger boy to pick a different ball so that they could have two different kinds and share them with each other. But at the prospect of sharing the boys whined and complained because of their selfishness. At this reaction the father told them that if they were not willing to share he wouldn't buy them any balls at all. Immediately the boys lamented and agreed to share and the younger boy picked a different kind of ball.
After having this run through my imagination, the Lord showed me what it meant (up to this point I wasn't even aware the Lord was speaking. I thought my mind was just wandering). He showed me that His children are eager to recieve gifts and He is glad to give them. However, oftentimes we become jealous of each other's gifts and covet them. If we would just recieve gladly the unique gift that He wants to give us, we could all have something special and unique to us and have the benefit of sharing all of our gifts with o_ne another. Therefore we should just seek the Lord for what He has for us personally because it is o_nly that that will fulfill us and bring real joy. And remember, the Lord has called us to be child-like; NOT child-ish
