There is Room at the Cross

by Pastor John Teeter

A man was interviewed on TV recounting the tragic story of the

sinking Titanic. His grandmother had been a passenger on that

maiden voyage and she had told him firsthand experiences she

witnessed on that fateful night when hundreds of people lost their

lives. He told how his grandmother was one of the few given a

place on an overloaded lifeboat.

She tried to forget the vivid memory, but the sound of drowning men-

-women and children crying out for someone to rescue them still

rang loudly in her ears even years later.

She said the men dying in the water cried loudly at first, but as the

frigid waters overtook them, their cries eventually faded away.

Then the silence became deafening. She knew their end had come.

She recounted the horror of those who diligently tried to save

themselves by clinging to an overloaded lifeboat, only to be beaten

away by the oarsman, lest the people in the boat be pulled down to

their deaths also.

Few people want to acknowledge it, but mankind is on a collision

course with eternal destruction. There is a way that seems right to a

man, but in the end it leads to death, Proverbs 14:12.

Jesus said "Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to

destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow

the road that leads to life and only a few find it," Matthew 7:13-14.

Humanity has already hit the iceberg of sin; the ship is already taking on

much water of judgement and it's going down fast.

Total destruction is certain. Outside of Christ, there is no rescue for

our souls. But God, by his merciful intervention, has provided a

lifeboat. God truly hears the cries of a multitude of drowning souls

doomed for eternal destruction and he's doing something about them.

No one will be turned away, because unlike the lifeboats of the

Titanic, God is no respecter of persons, and there is unlimited

space in Jesus through faith in his blood. God will hear your cry

too. So call on him today.

There's room at the cross for you,

There's room at the cross for you,

Though millions have come,

There's still room for one,

Yes, there's room at the cross for you.

Lord, I pray that Gary Leon Ridgeway will realize there is room at the cross for him. Don't let him think he has gone too far to be saved. Reach him, Jesus, by Your grace, mercey and love. Please do not let him be so focused on the evil of his crimes that he can't search for hope. Break through and show him You are his hope of being set free of the torment of remembering his sins. Oh, Father, he has been given this chance and time to repent. Please let him grasp his chance and come to You. Send someone to present the gospel to him. Thankyou that Robert Rule already showed him the forgiveness of Jesus. Thankyou for Gary's tears. That shows he is sorry for his crimes. I pray, now, that he finds the answer to that sorrow over his sins. Make it Godly sorrow that he may be led to repentence. Please bring Gary to the cross. Show him that it's Your kindness that leads us to repentence and let him come to that repentence.

Our Pastor opened the service for testimony the other night, one of the ladies who got up was in a service where Ridgeway went forward for salvation! That was about 1 month before he was arrested. I will find out who she is and ask her the particulars.

Bob Rule is a neat man and strong Christian biker for Jesus, he knows the value of forgiveness and the healing it brings. Next time I see him I will ask him if he would post a testimony for the Lord here.

Awesome! I want to hear more! When I saw Gary on TV, he looked very hadened and cold. Maybe the Lord has not finished transforming him yet, and he will look more Christ like later--as David Horowitz (Son of Sam) does. He did cry when the people said they forgave him, so I know there is some kind of change in him. I posted prayers for his salvation in all various threads.

And now, for Suddam Hussein....

Gary Ridgeway, Saddam Hussein, Michael Jackson, you, me, everyone needs Jesus!

There are no degrees of sin.

Lies, gossip, witch craft, perversions, murder, genocide, theft, arson, wishing someone dead, having sex outside of marriage, abortion, temper, drunkenness, drug use, running a red light, not forgiving others... all of it will send us to hell (1Cor. 6:9&10) if we do not seek a salvation relationship with Jesus and ask the Father daily for forgiveness in the repentance of a broke and contrite heart.

And just as there are no degrees of sin there are no degrees in God's Forgiveness.

This does not mean that there will be no consequences for that sin.

It means God can hear your prayers and mitigate (Heb. 7:25) on your behalf.

Repentance means that God can hear your prayer, don't expect God to hear you if you refuse to turn away from your sin. He must turn away from sin, He is a Holy God and Holiness has no partnership with sin.

At the same time His Forgiveness is complete.

When you go to Him with an humble and contrite heart and turn away from your sin and forgive people who sin against you(Luke 6:37 & Eph. 4:32), He is faithful and just to forgive you of your sin. (1 John 1:9)

Father, please let those who read this search their hearts and come to you in repentance every day. Holy Spirit, lead those who need Jesus into Salvation and a relationship with Jesus. Teach us how to turn away (repent) from sin and have no desire for turning back to our sin. Teach us to desire the face of the Father (Holiness) more than the pleasures of the flesh (sin). Teach us to love other people enough to forgive them so that we can be forgiven. Teach us to forget. Thank You Father. In the Name of Jesus...AMEN!
