Question about tithing

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I do not belong to a church nor am I attending a church currently, so how do I tithe? Can I give to a charity as tithing such as as homeless shelter or rescue mission? Should I tithe to tv churches? Can I donate my time to a needy cause or person? Thank you for your help as I try to grow closer to the Lord. Also, do you tithe 10% of every weeks salary or just the first month's salary of the year?

The Bible says you are supposed to take your tithes to the Temple (church). You send 'offerings' to tv ministries, not your tithe. You need to find a church to attend and work in so that you can take your tithe to the Temple as well as have fellowship with the body! Both of these things are important!

You are supposed to take a tithe out of every check. And give offerings too.

=======================

This is what JG had to say in another forum from last year:

LEV 27:30 And all the tithe of the land, [whether] of the seed of the land, [or] of the fruit of the tree, [is] the LORD'S: [it is] holy unto the LORD. 27:31 And if a man will at all redeem [ought] of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth [part] thereof. 27:32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, [even] of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD. 27:33 He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed. 27:34 These [are] the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai.

Think of the tithe like sales tax.
You don't tax the profit you tax everything.

The tithe is like protection insurance the price needs to be built into the product or service.

God promises to Bless and protect and increase all that is under the tithe.

He even said test me on this.

Like insurance the tithe is not something you have to pay.
The tithe is something you pay because the Lord wants to Bless.

You do not have to pay it.
You pay it because God wants to pour out a blessing on it.

If you only want to pay a small portion then you only get a small portion.

If you want to prove God then prove Him.

If I tithe on the adjusted net then I only get my adjusted net protected.
If I tithe on the gross profit then I only get that protected if there is any.

If I tithe on all I get all protected and blessed.
I have been doing this for years and it works for me.

You will be blessed for giving.
Try your best to be connected to a body of believers.

I don't tithe any more. I do, however, give often and as God leads. I always felt under bondage with tithing and decided to leave it under the Law where it belongs. I know this goes against almost all the chuch's teachings, but I am convinced there is no need for tithing. There is, however, much emphasis throughout the Bible on GIVING and GIVING BIG.

Hi there!
About tithing:
God doesn't need our money- He gives us the opportunity to be blessed by giving. When we give to church and other ministries, we are honoring Him because it helps these things to keep going. My church does a lot of things with the money-like sending missionaries to spread the word, we buy food and clothes to distribute to those in need-these are examples-we have many, many things we do to help spread the news of Jesus.
It is hard to give sometimes because the way this world is- it costs so much to live, we can barely get by. But this is something Satan has done through the greediness of men to keep people from giving for the spreading of the Word!
Since money is such a big thing with us, that is why it is an honor to release some of it to Him-we are giving up something that means a lot to us.
When we have the opportunity to give, we should look at is as a blessing-not a burden- and you will be blessed back many times over.
Your money is the seed-God gives the harvest- and your tears water that seed.
Try to let go although it is hard, and you will see the windows of Heaven open for you-just give it time because at first Satan will try to make you think you're a fool for giving God your money.
Even bars have to get people to fork over their money to keep going, and all the people get back is a lot of sorrow.
At least giving God your money assures you of blessings-financially, healthwise, and spiritually because it shows your love for Him to give away one of your most prized things to Him.
Love ya' in Him,
A friend

I also believe you should find a church home to give your tithes to. Your tithe is 10% of your increase. Whatever your income or increase is you should give 10% of that. Or 10 cents on every dollar.

When you find a church home the money they receive from your tithes should run the church (lights, heat etc) but it will also help others (charity)

I pray that God will lead you to exactly where you need to be.

I also know that for a fact my money has increased once I started tithing. I don't make any more money, but blessings come and somehow my money HAS been INCREASED.

I have been on both sides of the fence here. I was always one to give at least 10% every check. Then a few hard times came my way and I kept it back and told God that when I broke even I would give again. Well that doesn't work, because I never broke even, something always came up to take away what I needed to break even. I am starting to give again and just trust in faith that God will provide for the bills one way or another.

What happens when you tithe and then you don't have enough to eat or pay bills afterward? This has happened to me. I have paid my tithes and then not had enough money to eat or pay critical bills. I even lost my car insurance once because I couldn't pay it after tithing. I still stood firm and focused on God as much as possible without being angry or doubting. Could it be because I gave the wrong amount? Or that I wasn't a cheerful giver? I still tithe today. I am still struggling, but the good Lord has provided some way or another. I still have to ask people for food two day before my pay check sometimes though. I need the truth so I can be set free, knowing I'm giving the right amount to God. Not too much or too little.

Thank you.

Let me explain lots of people ask about this. Tithing, you give 10% the amount that God intrust in you (do the math). You tithe to the church that feeds you every week. After the 10% its called offering and you can give that to whatever you like.

First 10% is holy and it belongs to God. He does so much with just 10% than what we could do with 90%.

If your not in a church ask and pray and get your self plug into a local church.

Tithing is biblical but it's not CHRISTIAN. Never do you find first-century Christians tithing in the NT. With the death of Jesus, all ceremonial, governmental and religious codes that belonged to the Jews were nailed to His cross and buried. We never see NT Christians tithing, no do we see them sacrificing goats and bulls to cover their sins.

Tithing belonged exclusively to Israel under the Law. NT saints give cheerfully according to their ability...not dutifully out of a command. We are to GIVE generously, yes, and it will be given back to us in the same measure, not only in money, but in kindness, compassion, love and such.

The book, PAGAN CHRISTIANTIY by Frank Viola, really opened my eyes about this and much more modern day church practices that are not Biblical.

Tithing may have been a command laid down in the OT but here is a NT verse where Jesus Himself says that tithes should be paid.

Luk 11:42 But woe unto you Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and every herb, and pass over justice and the love of God: but these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Here the Pharisees were trying to substitute tithing for the fruit of the Spirit, but Jesus said they should be doing both. Jesus came to fulfill the Law, not to abolish it. We are no longer under the bondage of the Law and it does not save us, but it is there to guide us as to what God expects of us. As for what the NT Christians were giving, usually it was more than 10% especially where it says the sold all they possesed and had all things in common. If we follow that example then most of us fall far short of what we should be doing. Also where tithing was mentioned in the OT it wasn't just a ceremonial code, it was a statement that God had made that tenth portion Holy, not man.

for those who have struggled "due to" tithing... I believe those struggles were going to strike no matter what, but the enemy will tell us if only you would have held back from God you would be ok. When does that ever work? If God is having a hard time blessing everyone don't we still want our cut?

I think the struggles come to see if we can keep our eyes on Jesus and it builds our character. Sure it hurts, can get scary and frustrating but these things can happen at any time to anyone, but if you lost it all you still have your salvation.

Also many churches help their members with bills and mortgages if they ask that is what our tithes do to help the body of Christ.
