Integrating Psychology into Christianity

I'm doing a paper for my General Psychology class at college, and I want some of your insights. Please let me know what you think of the integration of psychology into Christianity, and if you have Biblical backup, that'd be better (but not necessary!). Any opinions and/or facts on the topic are really welcomed! I'm almost done with my paper, I'm just quite interested to know what everyone thinks. Is there room for psychology in Christianity, or not? The only Biblical reference I have been about to find is 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

Thanks a bunch!

I have a few verses for ya

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

The soul (mind will emotions) can be considered relevent
can't it. So the study of the mind is fine, but in reality
from a Christian's perspective,
the the Word of God and revealed knowledge from that
(Rhema Word) will do more for a person than
100 years in a Psychologists office.
Worldy counselling is ok, better than doing nothing at all,
and helpful to a degree, but spiritual prayer from a
Christian with the downloading from the Holy Spirit
is AWESOME and transforming, the very heart, mind, soul
,the WHOLE person.

Christianna,

I am a psychology minor and have taken about 6 courses in this area. It is my opinion that although most psychologists are considered scientists, there is definetly is room for Christianity whereas the field of psychology is concerned. Many principles in psychology are based on scientific evidence, however there are many things that also cannot be explained by mere scientific evidence alone. When a psychologist recognizes that the wisdom that they have to help others comes from God and is indeed a gift, so many lives can truly be touched. I do not believe that Psychology is the root of all evil, however man is. Bad things can happen in any profession, not just the field of psychology. When man relies on his own insight instead of seeking wisdom and truth from God, he is in effect playing God. This is especially bad if the psychologist takes full credit in healing his patient, instead of giving the credit to the Lord. We need to be sure that God is our spirtitual leader in all matters so that we may properly carry out his will. Lets face it we are sinners, and each of us lives in a world of sin. Psychology cannot be eliminated as it serves to bring forth a reconciliation and understanding for many confused people hurt by a world of sin. It CANNOT of course replace biblical teaching, and truths. God should always be relied upon first and foremost by both the patients and the psychologists themselves. The world sure would be a nicer place, wouldn't it if we put God first in all matters and sought his wisdom? Anyway this is just my opinion.

Yours in Christ,
Mary

My daughter, is at this time going to a psychologist, but she (the psychologost) is a born- again christian. She has expressed to me several times how she brings in the word of God in their sessions and it is really helping her. I think this a wonderful thing. There are so many people going to them today. When you minister the Word of God with the little knowledge man has aquired, they work together for true healing.
I truly believe that this should be the churches job,and every born-again-Holy Spirit Filled christian, if we as His children were growing in him and serving as we should, the wisdom that we recieve as we grow older we should take time to help those in need, because it is of a spiritual nature. Unfortunatly, I my self am guilty of not being obediant to the Lord. Because if we all did our jobs in the home, such as a christian upbring for our children, raised them in His ways even if they strayed, that which we taught them, the Holy Spirit would bring to rememberance. Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old it shall NOT depart from him. Neglect, on Our part , to ensure a sound mind for our children and apply Gods word to all areas in life. There is nothing that is not covered in Gods word about every problem in life. If we would have done our jobs this generation would not be in the shape it is in now.Gods Word Heals!
