Husband Hit by Drunk Driver

My husband Brian was on his way to work at 4:30 this morning, and a Drunk Driver slammed into the side of our car. This happened within 10 minutes of his departure for the hospital where he works. Praise God he is alright enough to speak, but he is complaining of a severe headache and said his knee is s****ed up. The drunk driver got out of his truck, after slamming into our car and ran off into the woods. Our new car a 1999 Dodge Stratus though is totaled, and we do not know if the man who hit Brian has insurance. We have none, and no way to buy another car. Please pray that the Lord will intervene, and that Brian will be totally healed from his injuries, and that our car will be replaced as it is the only vehicle we own and is needed for our child's therapies, and as a means for my husband to get to work to support this family. I am very concerned right now. I am shaking so badly, it is hard to type this. Thanks for your prayers!!!!!

Brian Just called me, the ambulance is taking him to the hospital. He is having severe pain and swelling now in his knee and is having difficulty walking. He also mentioned that from the way the car looks he should be dead, and he is right now thanking God for sparing his life, as am I. If the car would have hit another few inches it would have crushed the drivers side door into him. He was unconcious for about 3 minutes after impact because of the force of the airbag. His head is aching pretty badly he said. I hope that everyone can pray that there will be no permanent damage, as this is his 3d head injury in his lifetime, and he is only 32 years old. Also pray for his knee and that he recovers quickly. The kid driving the other vehicle, was around 18 and police are still looking for him at the moment. I pray they find him. I can forgive, that is not a problem. I just want Brian to be alright. I love him very very much. I cannot get to the hospital to be at his side, since I have no way to get there. But My Mother in Law is going, so atleast he will have someone at the hospital to look out for him.

I too was involved in a car wreck on 12/20/03 and my driver side door was caved in from a 4X4 truck, and i was in a saturn and I could not get out. MY knee was broken. It wasn't a major break tho, just a fracture. However, I know what fear he is having and his pain all too well. I pray that you comfort him and his family lord, and they provide him withcomfort, and he will be healed. I pray they find the man whom hit him, and I pray he is healed from alcohol addiction. I pray that they are given a vehicle to drive. I pray for his headaches are taken away, and this family is helped in anyway possible for anything they need out of this situation. Lord Thank you for preserving Brian's life. I pray you will heal him and comfort him. I pray he and Mary would lean on you totally to provide their needs. I praise you that you already have a car chosen for them. I pray Brian's injuries would heal quickly. In Jesus name, Amen

Brian arrived home about 30 minutes ago. No Broken Bones, Praise God!!!
He is suffering numerous cuts and abrasions from the airbag, hospital discharge sheet states that he does have a head injury, and contusions and obviously is VERY sore, but he is praising God so it is all good, because he is alive!!!

The Troopers said that the drunk driver would have hit Brian head on and if Brian would not have swerved then Brian and the Drunk Driver both probabally would have died. The DD was going 60 miles per hour and lost control of his truck, Brian was only going about 25 mph, so he could not get out of the way fast enough.

The drivers headlights were inches from my husbands face, glass shattered everywhere, the bumper was ripped from our car and found in the woods, and the axle was completely torn off as well. The impact of the crash was so great that both airbags in deployed. The tropper said that the force was considerable because usually on a drivers side crash only the drivers airbag will deploy.

The State troopers were amazed that my husband survived this crash, and so was my husband. Our car was mangled badly. This further strengthens my faith in God though, because my husband was protected, and things could have been so much worse. God is very good, indeed and my husband can no longer deny as this is proof to him.

I had my mother in law take a picture of our crashed car this morning, and as soon as I get this film developed I will post with the photos.
Right now I am praising God for his mercy and compassion towards our family. Brian is also praising God and wants me to be near him. They know who it was that hit Brian now, and they are obtaining a warrant as we speak to arrest him.

Please pray for this drunk driver, I am sure that he needs prayer even more than we do. Thanks again, and please keep praying!!! The man does have insurance and we are hoping that it will cover the cost of the loss of our car, so that we will be able to get another car.

Latest update

The State Trooper stopped by our home to ask us to identify a picture of the Drunk Driver. The Drunk Drivers name is Eric, and this is not Eric's first time involved with DUI. Eric is in major trouble for fleeing the scene of this accident and is currently believed to be hiding out at his mothers, The police expect to make an arrest soon. The damge estimate on our vehicle is $10,000, and Eric's vehicle $15,000. Today I am going to try and have my husband Brian saved, pray that he will be born again. I feel as if God is trying to get Brian's attention, and Brian for the first time is realizing that God truly loves him. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise, a scary one, but a wonderful blessing nonetheless. I am just so glad that God spared his life.

Oh Dear Jesus, thank You for protecting this man from harm! Thank You for things can be replaced. I pray that even know you are preparing Brian's heart, preparing it to accept You as his Savior, cleansing him from all sin and making him a new creation!!! THANK YOU FATHER. I lift up Eric to you as well Lord, reveal yourself mightily to this individual, meeting him face to face to turn his heart to you as well. Even as we all pray, YOU are in control of this situation. Heal him of all his unjuries Lord, let there be no permanent damage done to any part of his body. PLease provide another means of transport for them that they need badly, Touch the heart of the drunken driver, let him too be confronted with the living God.

Update 2-26-04
Here we are 4 days after the crash and they still have not arrested the drunk driver Eric, although they are looking for him and have obtained a warrant. Eric's insurance will not pay for our car because the vehicle belongs to his brother Jason.

The impound lot where our car was towed already is charging us $380.00 as of today and each day our wrecked car sits there they will continue to charge us $32.00 per day. We are saddened by this because we cannot even afford this fee. Brian only makes $350 a week and we have 4 little children to take care of. This is truly every penny that we have, so we pray that Jason will do the right thing and contact us with his insurance information so that we can get this all settled.

If Jason does not contact us then our attorney will have to contact the state insurance adjuster and they will legally obtain his information, but that will take 3 more weeks. Right now I want prayers for this insurance to be all worked out and that all this will be work out in our favor.

We are trying to locate Jason, but he seems to be evading all of our efforts. We pray for God's wisdom here. Brian's knee is giving him terrible pain and he is seeing his doctor tommorrow about that. I am still very glad that God sent his angels to intervene and Brian survived this wreck.

On sunday we got tickets to The passion of the Christ and I am excited that we will have the opportunity to see that movie. Whenever I think about all that Jesus went through, it is so humbling and puts my petty problems into perspective. I put our troubles in the Lord's hands to work out in any way he sees fit. Thank-you for the prayers!!! Please keep praying for us.

Father God, I ask right now that you take control of this situation. I ask that the Favor of God be with them. Lord Your word declares that NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST US WILL PROSPER, and every tongue that rises against us in judgement, WE SHALL CONDEMN IT!! For this is our heritage. Isaiah 54:17. Lord Your word also declares that You meet all of our needs according to Your riches and glory in Christ Jesus. Let Brian and Mary have favor with You God and with man. Let this situation turn around and what the devil meant for harm, You Lord will turn around for good. We know that the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. But we know that You came that we might have life and have it more ABUNDANTLY. Lord, I ask that Brian and Mary will come out better than they were before. Lord, I ask that you convict this brother that he would come forward and do the right thing. Lord, we ask that this kid who is on the run will come forward and be brought to justice. He caused this accident Lord, and there is no reason that this precious couple should have to pay 1 red cent!!!! I break the assignment of the devil that is against them and I plead the precious blood of Jesus on their lives. Lord if this indeed was a wake-up call for Brian, then let Your will be done. Lord, we just claim his soul into the kingdom. Let this be a great testimony for you oh Lord. Lord, I just pray right now for a miracle for them, divine intervention!!! Lord we thank You for protecting Brian during this accident and I ask that You would heal him back to completion and Lord, turn this tragedy into triumph for them. Your word says in Ephesians 3:20 that You will do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think and I claim that right now in this situation. Lord. touch all area's of their lives and bless their finances and their health. Watch over them and their children and give them strength, wisdom of what to do and hope in this situation as they walk through it. I speak peace over their situation. I am praying for your family and the drunk driver and his family. I am sure everything will work out ok in the end. God knew this accident was going to happen, and allowed it for a reason. And as someone just told me, -"If God will lead you to it, God will lead you through it." I will tell you as a former drunk driver though, the boy who did this has more problems of his own than you would think. There were obviously problems that led him to alcoholism, and then alcoholism creates more problems. (like being wanted for causing a wreck,) Certainly it was his responsibility to not drink, or make sure he wouldn't drive, and he didn't. Your husband is really lucky to be alive. and that knowledge alone will probably create some serious changes in your life, your marriage, your outlook. Life is to short to spend any of your time on things that don't really matter. Enjoy yourself! Eat, drink and be merry.

I have contacted the local newspaper in writing with our story in hopes of gaining attention towards the lack of justice here, as they still have not issued a warrant for his arrest and he is free to go out and do this again and maybe next time kill someone. I DO forgive, yet I do believe that Eric needs rehabilitation and I would never forgive myself if I did not press the issue. It could be me that prevents another accident involving an innocent person/people or even Eric killing himself needlesly. I am still praying for Eric and his family and I have hope that he will do the right thing. I also pray that this warrant will be served soon. The Troopers are still claiming they are obtaining it so I do not know what is holding them up. Thanks again for all of your prayers and support for myself and family and I will keep everyone posted as things happen.

Did you go to "The Passion of the Christ" yet? It should REALLY impact Brian. Let's pray Eric and Jason go, too. This movie is just awesome.

Lord God, I pray that Brian will become saved. If this situation can be used to lead him to You, I pray that's what happens. I pray You show him how You answer prayers, and that he wants to know You as his Savior. I pray the movie "The Passion of the Chirst" had a great impact on him and that that will lead him to salvation. Use these things in his life to reach him.

Lord, I pray You will bring Eric to justice, and I pray that Jason's insurance has to pay. Lord, I ask that You save these two brothers as well. Thanks so much for praying for Brian's salvation JeriRose!!! I also believe that God allowed this for a reason, even if only to reach out to those involved, Brian included. We have not see The Passion of the Christ yet. We have tickets for 7:00pm tommorrow night. My dad is coming in from Gainseville so that he can watch the girls for me. I also want my children to see this, but since I do not have a car right now that would be difficult. So perhaps I can take the girls once I figure out this transportation issue. Sometimes I wish that I lived in a city that had public transportation. Anyway, thanks again JeriRose for praying. May the Lord Bless you abundantly for being so faithful to him.

I lost my uncle to a drunk driver several years ago. He left behind my aunt who was a senior in college and their two year old daughter. It devastated my family. I give God thanks and praise that he is physically OK. I will ask for a resolution for your financial situation.
Father God,
This situation is an awesome one for this family. What a blessing that he is OK and no one else was injured. This is a true financial hardship for this family. Please resolve it for them quickly so that they can move on.

Thank-you so much for your kind words and support spatterson, I really cannot imagine what would have happened had I lost my husband or another family member, as you have to a drunk driver. Brian is very blessed, our whole family has been blessed. Life is a great blessing!!! Thank-you for your beautiful prayer, it means alot to us.

Lord, touch this person's life. Lead them to where You want them to be. They need direction in where to go about the legal issues. Lord, open doors and possibly close others so they will go in the right direction and not be mislead. Help them to know what is right and wrong in this situation. Touch the people's hearts who need salvation. Open their hearts to You and help them to be receptive if they hear about You. Thank You Lord for everything You have done so far. I found out this evening that some paperwork has been filed in the Clerk of Courts office regarding a warrant being issued for the drunk driving suspect in our case. They are awaiting one more thing and will issue the warrant very soon. Praise God!!! There is however some interesting news that the police will need to investigate. My husband works at the hospital and two people at his work know both Eric and Jason and say that they are either twins or they look alot alike and are extremely close in age. This opens a new door as we may have been mistaken about the driver of the truck. Was it Jason or Eric? Both have been elusive and are not cooperating, so we are going to have to let the investigators question them both. Everyone says that the truck belonged to Jason, and Jason lives 3 miles from our house, so we are very suspicious. Please keep praying for us and for the proper suspect to be aprehended. I appreciate the wonderful support from all of you.

Let them repent Father, and ask for forgiveness and choose to walk in your will for all the days of their life. Our new car a 1999 Dodge Stratus though is totaled, and we do not know if the man who hit Brian has insurance. We have none, and no way to buy another car. Please pray that the Lord will intervene, and that Brian will be totally healed from his injuries, and that our car will be replaced as it is the only vehicle we own and is needed for our child's therapies, and as a means for my husband to get to work to support this family. I am very concerned right now. I am shaking so badly, it is hard to type this. Thanks for your prayers!!!!!


Oh dear gracious Lord, have mercy on this family! Please mercifully provide them with a replacement car just as you did me when my car was totalled by a hit and run driver. Intervene and Interject. Move in a mighty way by the power of your grace to insure that justice is done on Brian's behalf! Do not let this drunk driver get away with this! Please heal Brian from his injuries. Please mercifully provide them with the critical things they cannot live without. I ask this desperately in Jesus name I pray. Amen.

I have just posted 10 pictures of our car from the accident. They are on the photos page if you want to take a look. It was pretty bad and could have been alot worse as far as injuries. So again I am praising God for this miracle in sparing my husbands life!!! The drunk driver hit my husband going 60mph, my husband was only doing 25 mph as he had just turned the corner and didn't have time to accelerate so he could get out of the way. They STILL have not arrested this drunk driver whom committed this felony by leaving the scene, pray they find him soon.
