John 19:25-28
When Jesus was on the cross and he said Behold your mother, why did Jesus do this considering she had other biological sons? I understand that Jewish laws and customs, women had to be under the cover of a male. But she had other sons who would have had the responsibility of taking care of her. Or do we assume that her sons were not doing to provide for her since the disciple took her to his home to provide for her. Of course, another consideration is that Jesus did not interact with women according to their rules so perhaps he knew the disciple's heart and wanted what was best for her. Anyway, what do you think?

I believe Jesus was telling his mother that John was her son in the Kingdom of God and that she was John's mother in the Kingdom of God. As members of the family of God, we are each other's true brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, mothers and such.

he walked in the Spirit all the time, Peter may have entered in later, but we see John in the Spirit on the LORD'S day entrusted with the revelation of the book of REVELATION, and the revelation wasn't to great for him so that his soul couldn't handle it. The other gospels are on a lower plain as seeing Jesus as a man --- John only saw him as the Christ the son of the living GOD!!! JESUS's mother was in need of being aroung some one always in the kingdom not in and out after all she was the mother of GOD in the flesh Himself.

Acts 14:22
22 confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God. (ASV)

The way it was explained to me once upon a time ago is this...

In Jewish tradition of the time, it was up to the eldest son to hand his mother over to either a male sibling or family friend for her care after his death.

The phrase Jesus used is the formal phrase used to do this under the Jewish tradition of the time.

Considering the relatively short lives that the brothers of Jesus had and the very long life John had, it is possible Mary outlived her sons and perhaps Jesus was making sure that she was taken care of to the end of her life by the one man He KNEW would live longer than she did.
