I have read the many interesting views in the creation post.
Sorry for this new post, but it covers similar and yet differing material also.
According to the Bible, God created the heavens , earth and so on.
In Genesis 1:26 we read that God said 'let us make man in our image, after our likeness' .
In Genesis 2:7 we read "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."
The question is, were these the exact same two events ?
The simplest answer could only be no!
In John4:24 Jesus states that 'God is a spirit'.
In Luke 24v39, when Jesus appeared in the midst after his resurrection he states 'handle me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that i have.'
Here we have some important points.
God is a spirit.
A spirit does not have flesh and bones.
Therefore, the events of Genesis 1:26 must have been different from Genesis2:7 .
God FIRST created man as a spiritual 'image' after His own likeness, and thereafter formed a fleshly temple for that spirit, as indicated in Genesis 2v7.
We also have an important little pointer in genesis 2:4-5 before this where we have a seemingly insignificant little statement which thus declares : "These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew:" . Here we have an indication that other 'lifeforms' had some form of 'creation' before they actually grew upon the earth.
It is my sincere belief that there is a greater link between science and religion that is all bit snuffed out both by the religious traditionalists and the agnostic scientists. Both of them refuse to believe that their independent view points could have a common strand of truth running very widely through each of them, unable to come to terms with the fact that is could be masterminded by One great Infinite power, of whom it is stated that 'without Him was not anything made that was made.'
Could it not been some great Infinitie Divine power that may have caused, ordained, or permitted to be at least, great cosmological explosions, seismic rumblings, gieger-counter busting shakings or whatever it took to create the minutest and first infantismal signs of 'life', which may well have developed and 'evolved' at His behest?
Just because the Bible does not use scientific jargon does not mean there is no 'scientific' goings-on, or that the Divine manipulations have not been manifested in some confounding events which might only be capable of being interpreted or explained more accurately in scientific terms.
I believe that the scriptures give ample indications that this may indeed be so.
That every genetic genomal anatomical aspect of our being, that every fibre of our flesh is not divinely composed is beyond doubt, for as it states on the wrapper, we are "FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY" made!
Does some catastrophic sounding statement like "BIG BANG" not immediately provoke FEARFUL thoughts or inclinations towards creation. If they do, then Thank the LORD, because He declared it to be just so!
FEARFULLY MADE, yet WONDERFULLY made.
That the miles of intestinal flesh, the miriad of organs, bones, sinews, veins and other minute and complex anatomical particals are all genetically engineered, pioneered and composed by One divine source, is just too WONDERFUL too contemplate.
And man in his arrogance nowadays lends his thoughts to thinking that he too can be a master of this 'creation' stuff, thinking that if he scrambles together a few of the tiniest components he too can become like God, and creat a human being also, is a descent into the realms of darkness! Such thoughts are as ridiculous as someone picking up the pieces of ready made lumps of dough, rolling them together, throwing them in the oven, then taking out the baked bread result and thinking he is a baker!
The vastness, wonders and machinations of creation, from the heavens, earth to man and other life forms are just too incredible to contemplate.
We can speak of them. We can debate them, but we can never emulate nor fully understand them, for they were from a 'formula' that we can only see the finished effects of.
The souls of man, is that 'mirrored' creation of God, and souls either have light or darkness in them. We were born into the darkness of sin, but because of His great plan, the true light of greatness can shine in us, only if we allow it to do so.
And when we consider this matter, there really should only be one answer, for which of us would consider nowadays building a home from scratch, to later debate whether we need electricity, our common medium and light source. As the foundations are being built up, the plans for 'lighting up' were laid way before them. And thus it is with us also, we were created as a mirror image of the Divine spark, the choice as to whether we wish that divine spark to rest upon us lies with us.
That is why God has given us 'freewill', not only did he engineer and create us, He also gave us the choice as to whether we want to be a part of His finished article.
As it states on the wrapper, FEARFULLY, yet ever so WONDERFULLY made!

"gordypordy"- Very perceptive. Notice where God first "creates" man- Create- bring something forth, out of nothing, He create both male and female simultaneously. But, when God "makes" man from the dust of the ground, it's Adam's body alone. Plus, notice God had Adam do several tasks before finally taking a part of Adam to "make" Eve's body. Make- Use pre-existing matter to bring forth something else. Let me know if want to discuss this further. Take care and God Bless!
