Anointed is moving

I just wanted to drop a quick note to let everyone know what is going on with this website. A few months back we upgraded the operating system on the server that this site runs on. That upgrade did not go very smoothly, and left a number of holes in our system. It became quite apparent that a change was needed.

Last week we contacted another company that deals in a very specialized operating system. Their software cost combined is about $7,000. After seeing our website, and all the good it does for everyone, they made a $4,500 donation, and only charged us $2,500 for the complete package. A huge thank you to guardiandigital. That software arrived at the data center this morning, and will be installed on a brand new server this evening. At that point we will shut the website down, and begin the move to the new server. Anointed.net is close somewhere between 50-80gb in size, so transfering that much data will take a considerable amount of time. There will also be a tremendous amount of work in order to set all the configuration files on the new server. If all goes smoothly, it should take no more than a few hours. If not, it could take a day or two. I will work alongside guardiandigital to make the move as quickly as possible.

News reguarding the prayer board:
As you have noticed we have a very unique system here that allows you to only have to register one time, and login one time, in order to use both the main website software, and also the prayerboard software. This was a very custom setup that we paid a tremendous amount of money to have built. There is an entirelly new prayerboard setup that I had mentioned was going to be online this week. That is now on hold.

The programmer that built this sytem informed us that if he did the upgrade he was going to put a timebomb script into it that would break the prayerboard a year later. He refused to take that off so we decided not to upgrade the prayerboard. We are not exactly sure if there is allready such a timebomb on this current prayerboard.

We have contacted another programmer in the Russian Republic who has also done such a setup in the past. You have to realize that there are only a handfull of people in the world with the expertise needed to build such a system. We are blessed to have found this guy, and are now in contact with him. He offered to rebuild the system with no such expiration for only $650. We will start that project immediatelly, and hope to have the new prayerboard online as soon as he finishes, approximatelly 3-4 weeks.

I say all of this to let our prayer warriors know exactly what is up with the website. I know how frustrating it can be to want to go pray for someone, and to have the site offline, or not working properly. This week alone we have spent a tremendous amount of time and money to get the system exactly how it needs to be. I thank you for all of your prayers and support. We will be back up and running as soon as possible, and please pray for us that the upgrade goes smoothly. It is no small job undertaking such a huge change. I know that we pray every day for the Lord to protect this site, and to bring in the right people at the right time to work and pray alongside us.

Thank you all and the Lord bless you
Shawn

Shawn, Thank you so much for such a detailed post. My eyes are watering I am so touched by the dedication you and your father and mother make to this ministry.

My husband does computer work and he has told me about how some people set up time bombs. He refused to so this himself but he only worked for people he knew would only use him to maintain his networks. (He did networking not what you need here.) I am so grateful to God that He provided more affordable services for this board.

I am sure we will all be extremely patient with all of the changes and minor bugs. I think the plan for the prayer vigil area is fine but we have an effective way to do this right now with Carrie-Ann's hard work and God's Blessings. So we can more than muddle through.

I hope after all this hard work over the next week or more that you will take time off to do something enjoyable and refresh yourself. We need you in good shape and if you over work you might burn out. (God forbid!)

I'll try to answer everyone's questions here.
1: The site will look exactly the same as it does now. In about a week or two the prayer board will totally change though. We have hired the coder from the Russian Republic, and he began work last night on it.
2: I would expect the final move to happen on tuesday. My buddy came over last night and we spent the evening transfering all of the data files to the new server. Now it's only a matter of setting up all the configuration files, then closing this site to copy the database, and finally turning on the new site to the public.
The main reason for the new server was not to launch new features but to fix the current issues, and to secure the site. We have a fair number of members that are having issues being able to post, and I fully expect it is because of the operating system change on this server. We had our data center switch from an old vs. of redhat to the new enterprise edition but it has had major problems as I'm sure many are aware.
The new server should also speed things up considerably for our members. That will be a very nice change indeed.
