National Day of Prayer

"Prayer is an opportunity to praise God for His mighty works. His gift of freedom. His mercy, and His boundless love." quote from the United States president George W. Bush has issued the National Day of Prayer Proclamation for 2004.

I have to tell you, I have a problem with some of Bush's policies but I do appreciate his love of the Lord.

The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history, including President Lincoln's proclamation of a day of "humiliation, fasting, and prayer" in 1863. In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual, national day of prayer. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May . Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. Last year, all 50 state governors plus the governors of several U.S. territories signed similar proclamations.

I hope that so many of us put some time aside to lift our prayers up to our Heavenly Father and bring a unity before the Lord about our nation. Please pray that those who are following the world and don't know Jesus will be touched by the Holy Spirit and drawn to God. Pray for all of the saved children of God that they will be blessed with health, financial blessings and relationship healings.

And above all things, come before the Lord with thanksgiving. With a humble heart and a grateful attitude Jesus will be well pleased and our Heavenly Father will smile upon us!!!
