Hedges of protection

Hi Jerry,
I heard one of your sermons about hedges of protection and I have a few questions.If this post bothers you in this forum then you can move it, I just wanted to make sure that you see it.

1)What do I have to do to create such a hedge? Is it enough simply asking God to protect me or do I have to say something special?

2)If I ask God to create a hedge of thorns around my unsaved family is it certain that it'll work and that they'll be saved? Or is it possible that nothing will happen and that nothing will change? I mean if this really works then this would mean that you can save every atheist this way by simply asking God to do this.Is it really that easy?
