A Holy War

I just want to share some recent studies I have done and my personal thoughts.
HOLY WAR [Dictionary] 1. A war waged for what is supposed or proclaimed to be a Holy purpose, as the defense of faith. 2. Any disagreement or arguement between fanatical proponents of radically differing beliefs, opinions etc.
HOLY WAR [Encyclopedia Britannica] Any war fought by divine command or for a religious purpose.
The concept of Holy War is first found in the book of Joshua. It is an account of the Israelites fight to claim their promised inheritance, and has two major themes, Conquest & Division. Conquest of the land of the Canaanites, and Division of that Promised Land to the tribes of Israel. A new way of life after crossing the Jordan was about to begin, gods purposes for the people of Israel have been revealed, and their future was to unfold. God's convenant promise was reiterated [1:3-6] and that He would fight for them.
They would enter the Promised Land and drive out those who opposed God, a Holy War so to speak, one that would play a role in many religions. These Semitic tribes [descendents of Shem] crossed the Jordan and settled in a region that was in control of Egypt and babylonia. Invasions of Canaan [later known as Palestine] by the tribes of Israel developed ideas on which Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religions were founded.
Holy Wars for whatever reason date back to the first century. The term Holy War was coined in Europe during the Crusades to mean a war against the Muslims. The first Crusade was 1095-1099 in which Jerusalem was taken and like the rest of them was said to be a response to three centuries of Muslim aggression and mistreatment of Christian pilgrims.
Holy Wars as we know are still very much alive today, especially in the Middle East, but we here in the United States have felt the sting of the terrorist acts orchestrated by the Muslims in the name of their beliefs and in defense of their faith. The term Jihad [struggle in Arabic] and often translated as Holy War brings to mind Muslim terrorists killing people who disagree with them and their religious purpose.
I too make a call to Holy War in the defense of my faith and in the name of my beliefs. I believe we as Christians have a Holy War, a battle to fight, a revolution to start if you would. Not a call for overthrowing of government, not a call to take up arms, but a call to live out the gospel with all it promises. A call for the people of God to impact this generation with the prophetic message of repentance, a call to spark the most counterculture movement in our nations history, a call to take back the moral ground that has been stolen from under our feet, a call to follow Jesus by life or by death. We need to challenge all to live their life for Christ in a way that your life or death would bing honor to Him. Our Holy War is not about dying however, but about living and joining a cause so worthwhile that we would though be willing to lay down our life for it. As Christians, our lives do not belong to us anyway, they belong to God.
What do I think about the Muslims? Like everyone else, they need Jesus! I hold no condemnation for them, but I pray for them. I pray that they would find the only true answer to their Holy War - Peace through the name of Jesus Christ.

Actually, the real purpose for Terrorists attacking seems to be more a political thing rather than religious

Peace,

In Islam no war is holy.
The term Jihad, as you rightly said, means to struggle, to strive.
This can be a student learning for his course and trying to do well, or someone trying to be good, kind and just to others, repressing anger if one is being provoked etc., learning about the creation of God [physics, maths, chemistry, biology etc.], ,avoiding sin etc. etc.
War is only allowed for defense.....
i've explained the concept of jihad in another post.

Jesus (pbuh) never preached a "holy war". Thus, I personally regard this concept as an addition/alteration to the original teachings of Jesus (pbuh).

regards,
marianne

I would like to add this thought and challenge. I think that Muslims, like Christians, Buddist, and atheists, are all children of God and He loves us all. He has also charged us to 'love our neighbors as ourselves' ... He did not add 'if they are Christians' and neither should we. In addition, Jesus did charge us with the task of spreading His word, but he also cautioned that if we went to a village and they would not accept us, that we are to remove our shoes at the gate of the village and 'dust the dust' off of them. He did not say that we are to force the Word down anyone throats or to beat them over the head with the Bible. Jesus taught peace and love ans so should we. My challenge to eveyone is for us to stop looking at people in regards to how they differ from us and instead see all of them as God's children, whom He loves dearly.

We're not fighting men, but the principalities and demons of this earth.

This is not a holy war because all Muslims are not fighting with us.

Also, our side isn't fighting over religion.

In fact, how could we be, because our military is made up of people from all religions because that's how our country is.

There are even some Muslims in our military, so there's no way they would be fighting against their own religion.

I don't think there will be another Holy War til Armageddon.

What we're fighting now is Satan and his demons.

You misunderstand what Islam is. The verse you are referring to is a verse telling the military umma to kill the Jews of a specific tribe because the Umma had an alliance with that tribe and the Jews broke that alliance and betrayed the umma to Mecca. It is not a universal commandment for Muslims to kill Jews. Jews lived in large numbers in peace within the Islamic empire as did Christians. They are considered "people of the book" and have special rights under Islam. One of them being exempt from Shariah law and being allowed to practice their religion.

I would have thought that Satanism would carry that title
