Or is this not possible? Do you first have to get the water baptizm and then you can get the baptizm of the holy spirit?

It is different experience for all I got it before I was baptised when young. I was struggling with some questions about it recently and God told me you already have it stop letting the devil defeat you and just let it come out. It is more of knowing how to let go and let God work though us.

Okay, so you mean you can get the baptizm of the spirit before the water baptizm?

I loved this question and had to stop in and reply.
This is an area where I have witnessed the Lord and so the answer is YES.

I have witnessed young people especally (not that is exclusive) come to the alter so surrendered that before they could pray or be prayed for they are speaking in other tongues and you witness the fire baptism right there. I on the other hand witnessed people get water baptism and not recieve the Holy Spirit as manifested in tongues right then but later...at home, in the park etc. get it.

I personally was water baptised several times and did not recieve but one sunday morning... the Holy Ghost came upon me and I spoke with other tongues.

I too, have been dealing in struggles and the Lord told me the same thing...the POWER is already instilled within us and now we just need to let go and let God.

In my case, it was after water baptism. I don't think it matters. Look at Cornelios (Sp??).

For me, I think it was the fear of man - I had to surrender and step out and be water baptized first. I had to get rid of fear.

"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house...All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." Acts 2: 1-4

From scripture, not our own experiences it is evident that you do not have to be baptized in water to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

That's cool. But imagine somebody lays his hands on you to make you recieve the baptizm what has to happen that you know that it actually worked? I mean do you have to be slain in the spirit or do you have to feel something or start speaking in tongues right away? What if none of the things happen? Does this mean it didn't work?

Frederik,
I do not believe that someone can make you receive the baptism if you do not want it, just like someone cannot make you be saved if you don't want it either. They are both gifts which must be asked for.

Speaking in tongues is the evidence that you have been baptized in the Holy Spirit. Just like obedience to the commandments is the evidence that you believe in Jesus Christ. Believers act their faith out, they do not just talk about it. (well some phony ones do)

My pre-conceived notions about speaking in tongues was that it was some sort of freak show, that it was not natural or something like it. It was not easy at first, I only had a couple of syllables. Over time, and on a daily basis, I began to speak in tongues more fluently.

The evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit also manifested in the signs and wonders. i have seen people healed before my eyes with prayer. I have seen auto accidents avoided. I can even testify to a miraculous life-saving event for a friend of mine. I live in Austin, TX. At Wednesday service one night the Holy Spirit prompted me to pray for my daughter's Sunday School teacher, who had prayed for me for 10 years until I received the promise of salvation. She lives in Colorado.

I stood up in church during prayer time, and started praying for Kristy. I thought I was praying for her medical condition, as she was dying of pancreitis. I wasn't sure, so I started praying in tongues. The next day my daughter told me that Kristy was in a car accident that night. She was struck from the rear by another driver, pushed onto a railroad track. her car stalled. She was hit by the train, suffered a minor whiplash, but lived through the whole thing. The first man to come running up to her car had a belt buckle with "God loves you" on it.

Some people do not immediately start speaking in tongues. It may take a day or so. It might be because of disbelief--everything begins with faith! But the Holy Spirit will guide you through this. It is not about the experience, but rather about the anointing for service in the kingdom. Your life will never be the same.

Me personallly, when I was baptized in the Spirit it was like I had been looking at the world through old glasses, then I was given new contacts and my field of vision immediately improved.

The baptism is not just for the signs and wonders. It is to minister healings, to hear the voice of God through revelation knowledge, to understand the mysteries of the universe, to discover God's plan for you, etc. When we worship the Lord in tongues, he hears us. It is a heavenly language. The devil also does not understand it. So you can speak to God without interference from Satan.

When you are filled with the Spirit, you live and walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Your life will never be the same.

If you were homeless and given an apartment to live in you would be happy and maybe even satisfied. But if you moved into a mansion, full of luxury, space, amenities, etc. you would never ever want to go back to living in an apartment or on the street. The same is true of living in the world. Once you are saved you don't want to go back. Being baptized in Spirit you wonder what took you so long, and you never want to go back.

Frederick, I pray that you be filled with the Holy Spirit just when the time is right. You will never want to go back to the old you!

I want it, I never said I didn't want it but I also asked for it and I see nothing which shows that it worked.

Sometimes ther are things in the way Fredrick I think here is where God is saying to you fully repent seek God to let you know if any thing is hidden and then just be patient ask and keep asking dear brother. Sometimes it is not because of anything we are doing but there are hindering spirits who try to stop your blessing. Wrestle for it never give up you will recieve in Gods timing. And when you do if you don't speak in tongues all the time do not allow satan to tell you it did not happen that is the lie he tries to use. It may only be a few sylables and that is all I

Jesus I pray for Fredrick father fill him up and make it undenable for him. Let not satan steal his blessing. In Jesus Name,Amen

Fredrick,
Be patient, God will give it to you keep asking and you will recieve. Sometimes there are rulers of darkness interferring with the delivery of our blessing Keep believing and it will come. I remember a story in the Bible about how someone was praying and it took days for his answer when it came the angel told him God heard you on the first day but I had to battle the enemy to deliver your blessing. So sometimes the angel who is in charge of delivering our blessing is held up by evil spirits in the process of bringing it to us. Keep the faith. If someone knows the whole story and scripture address let me know.

Actually I wanted to go to a pastor who might help me by laying his hands on me.
I cannot tell wether I have the baptizm or not, I mean I asked for it but does this mean God has to do it? Maybe he does it in his own time, I don't know.
I thought having somebody lay his hands on me would increase the chances.

Fredrick, If you feel lead to have him pray over you do it.

I cannot tell you what to do, but I can say what I would do. I would run, not walk, to that pastor. I would go back again and again. I wouldn't leave that pastor alone until I had everything from God that I could get from Him - all the knowledge God had placed on that man. Then I would tell everyone everything I learned, like their eternal lives depended on it. I would seek God with everything I had, every opportunity I got to be alone with Him, I would take. I would seek out others who had knowledge of God and listen to what they had to say, to find out if they had any gift I needed, then I would ask them to lay their hands on me, so I could receive it.

We are, after all, supposed to covet every spiritual gift.

Good answer pickone you are correct.
