Is there really hope for the hopeless?

I just registered here about 2 minutes ago. I'm at the library (I often come here when I need a little peace.) I'm feeling the demon of depression riding my back again and I honestly don't know if I have enough strength to get hin off today. I was delivered from severe depression nearly 2.5 years ago after an attempt at suicide failed. I told God that I was going to give Him one more chance to show me why my life was worth living. Well, He's been doing that in grand fashion (Hallelujah!) But there are still some areas in my life that I can't shake.

Basically, I keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I always repent and ask God for His help in these areas, but I never seemto make any progress. I'm frustrated and angry at myself for not getting it right already! I want so badly to live my life solely for God but the more I try, the more the adversary comes and beats me down. Normally, I can combat him (well, me and God combat him) but today, I feel completely alone, worn down and just plain fed up.

I don't really have anyone I can talk to here that will counsel me without judging me so I'm not even sure where to start. I guess my prayer request is for clarity, strength and guidance. My pastor preached on Sunday from the topic of "Whose voice do you follow?" At this point, I don't even know if I know what God's voice sounds like anymore. I was making such progress and now I feel like I've hit a wall.

If this post sounds confusing, well, it reflects exactly how I'm feeling right now. Any prayers you can offer are greatly appreciated.

God bless.

God for the majority of the time speaks through His Word, the Bible. Sometimes He does speak to people like a real voice. I had that happen twice and do not make it the center of my walk with Christ. I obeyed both times when I heard Him but I do not expect or demand it daily. I was not even expecting it when it happened those two times! Even Paul was spoken to in this way a few times and maybe more than us because the Word of God was not printed and available like it is for us today. Do not get hooked up on that for I have seen people get all upset and demand to hear His Voice. His Bible is enough for us until He chooses to speak to us. When we get to Heaven, we will hear Him all the time, AMEN!

Chantrise,

There is a key to knowing God's voice...intimacy.

You CAN know and hear God's voice, but in order to know what his voice sounds like...you have to know him.

Imagine you are blind and you have a dear friend that is across the road, this friend is going to tell you when to step off that curb, when to take each step, and in what direction you need to go. This is your only way to get across that road... in the meantime:
There are cars honking horns, diesel engines being all loud, motors reving up, and babies crying...those are the sounds you have to block out to hear your friends voice. NO PROBLEM..BUT!!!
There is a devilish rebellious group of people across the street alongside your friend. They are all yelling out different commands and even saying things that can put you in harm's way. In order to determine which voice is your friends...you have to REALLY know this person, not to mention have all the trust in the world for them.

Trying to hear God's voice is a lot like that. It seems when you try to focus on listening to God you get all this EXTRA stuff (background noise), and just when you have learned to block out the background noise here comes the devil with a new tactic to try to make you lose your way. In order to overcome...you REALLY have to know God. You have to be able to sort through all that "mess" and literally find his voice. But, ONCE you hear Him...you will NEVER forget what HE sounds like.

My dear grandmother used to say...if you have to ask, "God is that you?"
Then, it probably isn't. If it is God you will know. His voice is the voice of WISDOM, LOVE, and PATIENCE. Wisdom being the key word.

Stay strong, and keep listening for His voice. Read up on Him in His "Biography" so that you will be more familiar with Him. Keep praying that God will draw you closer to Him. HE WILL...just keep believing!

You are in my prayers. We love you!

Then you will walk in your way securely And your foot will
not stumble. When you lie down,
you will not be afraid;
When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
