Learning how to trust God.

A few years after I got saved while I was praying I heard the Lord say:
"Jerry do you trust me"
I knew it was one of those trick questions from the Lord.
He already knew how I felt, He only wanted to see if I would be honest.

With great fear and humility I said:
"No Lord, I do not trust You"

He said: Read these verses every night for six months before you go to bed. I did what the Lord asked.

After six months the Lord came back and said: "Jerry do you trust me"

Well I have to tell you after six months of reading the word I shouted from the mountain tops "YES LORD I TRUST YOU"

I then heard the Lord say: "Jerry can I trust You"
I said: "No Lord".
We are still working on this one.

If you read these verses every night before you go to bed it will change you also.

Have you ever asked yourself that question?

Do you trust God?

Posted by: wondering

Actually trust is one of those tiny words that cause so much trouble for me. I have great trouble trusting God in some areas. While I am pretty much able to trust Him for my salvation, I have a harder time trusting that He does care about those little areas of my life.

God was very untrustworthy in my life when I was a child and at the age of eight I gave up on God. It took 40 years before I could even think to approach him again. I am still trying to figure out just how much I can trust God. Why should he be any more trustworthy now than he was when I was 8? At 8 I decided that praying to the wall next to my bed netted better results than prayer to God.

Am I trustworthy to God? Honestly, not all the time, but that is because I have so many doubts and fears about Him, not that I live in flagrant sin.

Trust...I don't think that there is anyone that I trust in every area, not even my husband. Trust is something that I struggle with myself with concerning God on a minute by minute basis, I WANT to trust God, I just don't know how to let go of control long enough to learn how to trust Him. I feel like such a failure in this area because i know that until i can kill off this fear of trusting God, I will not be able to go further in Him...and I want to go as far as I can, I just don't know how to do it... I don't know how to trust God. I am going to read these verses for 6 months and see what happens, I hope that they help me change.

Jerry, I am doing Beth Moore's bible study "Breaking Free" and I can tell you very honestly that I am a mess in so many areas the only thing that holds me together is God's Grace - thank God! I believe in God, I believe Him too, and I am slowly learning to trust Him in all areas of my life. I pray for more discernment, and not to run ahead of Him, that seems to be what I do most often. Trusting God...if I keep His Word in my heart, and keep my eyes fixed on Him, I'm okay, but the moment I stop, I slip up. So I would have to say, after thinking this through, that I do trust God, I don't trust myself. God is believable and trustworthy and always there, I run from Him, and when I stop and cry out to God "where are you", He is right where He has always been. I grew up without a good father figure, even male role model in my life, and I am learning it is a mixed blessing. I have no preconceived ideas about a daddy, never had one, so I can turn to God and view Him as Abba Father, and be a Daddy's girl. However, living in that love He gives me, that is difficult, resting in that love. I trust God and know He is there, I fall short time and time again. I love teddy bears and my husband bought me this huge bear that's about the size of a 5 year old. he sits on my prayer couch (I don't like closets) in my room and I snuggle up next to the bear, cover myself in my prayer blanket, and pour my heart out to God. He always hears me, never berates me for bringing the same old thing to Him over and over again. He does speak sternly at times< but once I receive those Words, I am so very grateful. This has been a place of arriving "to" for me, again and again. But as God has never given up on me, nor shall I give up on Him. We are in battle, a battle for our hearts. God is the gentlemen, He wants us to come to Him, He is the ultimate warrior and can do anything, but He wants us to want Him. I trust that.

I trust God, as far as I know. Which isn't that far, considering there is a fair possiblitiy that I am mentally challenged.

But that, is God's business, since He made me who I am. Lately, I have decided that I really must be at least a little bit retarded, since that does mean "slow". To other people, I might be a lot retarded (like Fat Bob says).

All I know for sure is that I am paid for. That the hand I hold up is not my own, since it was bought for a price. It is the hand of God.

The less I know, the better off I am. My life is His. He can have it, since I didn't want it. I sure have been having more fun, since He moved in.

Did you know that people who know less, have more fun?

Pickone, it has been my experience that those who know the most realize that they know very little.

You are a wise and wonderful person. I admire your candor. Your post for bobthefat made me smile, not because I thought it was funny...but because you are not afraid to speak the truth.

Even IF you are mentally challenged I am not ashamed to say that in the two posts that I have read from you...you taught me far more than anything that I could have learned sitting in a classroom.

May you be richly blessed.

Love, Talena

Pickone, I agree with Talena, those of us who strive to know much more usually end up knowing so little of what matters. You are centered on God and that is what matters.

That's a whole lotta verses to read, is it also enough when you just read a few of them before going to bed ?
And what is it good for ? I can read John 14:14 / John 5:15 for example all day long but in the end it comes down to wether it works or not. This is what it's all about, the good feeling of trust doesn't help you when your prayers don't work.

These are good verses. I'll have to try this myself because I have to work on this area of my life too. Thanks for this teaching. Every time I come in here, I get more encouraged.

Thought this was well worth reading and contemplating. I printed these out and want to take the challenge. Thank Jerry.

I think I am learning more to trust God. I have my shaky moments and then I know I need prayer or to be reminded of sciptures that tells me I can and I will be blessed.
