Middle East conflict holds key to terror solution
As EU leaders gather to thrash out an anti-terror strategy, Palestinian Ambassador Shawky Armaly has urged Europe to look to the Middle East conflict for the solution.
While Europeans try to boost legal measures, such as an anti-terror ‘czar’, to protect citizens against the kind of atrocities suffered in the Madrid train bombings, Armaly stressed that leaders should focus more on the roots of terrorism.
“What happened [in Madrid] must be condemned as a terrible attack against innocent civilians. Europe must defend itself and it is it’s right to do so,” the Palestinian’s EU envoy told EUpolitix.com.
“But Europe itself recognises that it cannot combat terrorism without focussing on the roots of terrorism,” he said.
EU justice ministers met on Friday, followed by foreign ministers on Monday and then a summit of government leaders next week to draft a response to the increased terror threat on European territory since the Madrid attacks.
But the Middle East conflict could not be kept out of the equation, argued the Palestinian envoy.
The stalling of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians – under the US-led road map for peace – created “a favourable climate for terrorism to grow,” Armaly stressed.
Although there were other reasons for terrorism, the conflict was a “central problem.”
European and American strategies for social and economic reform in the Arab world – currently being drafted on both sides of the Atlantic – must keep the success of the peace process at the heart of their efforts.
“It is a central subject for public opinion in all of these [Arab] countries.”
Armali urged the EU to take more action to give impetus to the peace process and to transform its words into action.
“Because of internal divisions, Europe is happy to take verbal positions without passing on to action,” he said.
And although the EU did not hold much weight with the Israeli administration, it must play a crucial role in pressing Washington to engage more actively in the peace process.
“Politically Europe lacks power. It is often said that it cannot act alone but that it needs to act together with the US.”
“It has no influence on the Israelis and often Israel shows disinterest towards the political role of Europe.”
“Europe should push the US to take a more active role,” said the Ambassador, referring to the lack of progress of the international quartet – the US, UK, EU and UN - charged with pushing the road map forward.
“Talks are suspended just now and this presents the greatest danger.”

What do you think of Obadiah Shoher's views on the Middle East conflict? One can argue, of course, that Shoher is ultra-right, but his followers are far from being a marginal group. Also, he rejects Jewish moralistic reasoning - that's alone is highly unusual for the Israeli right. And he is very influential here in Israel. Well, first, please understand we are not being mean about removing your "off site link". The rules do state they are not to be posted without prior consent from JG.
Second, the signs of the "Last Days" are being fulfilled, but are not as yet fully. So, what had been presented about the pece pact above, could not be what God spoke of, since the anti-christ is not in power over the "one world Government" as yet.
Third- The race of Jews are no different than the races of other people. They all have thier good, bad and strange ones for what is believed and followed.
Today's world is a "Duke's Mixture" of just two main doctrines, God's and Satan's. But Satan has split up his false beliefs and teachings now, to appear as new ones, even tho ancient documentations show roots of all those false beliefs originally combined in thier first false religions milleniums ago.
People can be influenced to believe any mixture of beliefs these days to come up with strange appearances as you spoke of, where they back one part of God, but fall at including some of Satan's as well with them.
Let us pray for god to remove the blinders from those decieved, that they might turn to God whole heartedly in the Light of His whole Truth.
Lord-
We pray for those of great influence for leaders and more, that you break thru with the Light of your Truth into the darkness over them, to bring them to the full Truth of yours and drawn away from the false imitations of Satan. In Jesus Name- Amen!!
