Fasting is not just about food, it can also be giving up anything of the flesh. Like to watch tv? give it up... like to drink coffee? give it up. Got something you like to do every day? drink a mocha? eat a fav. candy bar? give it up.
I bought an excellent book on fasting and prayer a month or so ago, but right now it is packed. As soon as I locate it, I will send some helpful pointers.
Unless you have fasted before, I wouldn't undertake anything lengthy involving no food, a day maybe... then work up.
God bless.

Fasting is like prayer times 10. It's like saying to God, "Lord I don't need food, you are all I need to sustain me. If I were you I would fast at least once a month. It will greatly increase your relationship with God and he will answer your prayers speedily. It humbles your spirit-man and puts you into a position to receive from God. Two good books on fasting are: The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting by Mahesh Chavda and The Miracle Results of Fasting by Dave Williams. Also, a great website on fasting is:

When I was very young and had gone astray my parent's were fasting and praying for my salvation and I had a great change of heart come about by means I believe the Lord intervened in my behalf because he heard the prayers of my parents. I have fasted for others. All I can say is you have to experience a fast when coupled with prayer for yourself. It is very powerful. You try very much to not think of food or the things of the world and let the day be spent in mentally praying and focusing and meditating for that individual. It has a very real spiritual power. It intensifies the power of prayer.
