Why is hell physical suffering?

Hell is not only darkness and separation.
Hell is also pure suffering! Just think of the rich man and Lazarus.
He said he was tormented in flames. The lake of fire will also consist of fire, why shouldn't it?
This is one thing I don't understand. Why do people have to suffer like this? Does God want it to be this way? Is God angry at all the unsaved and then he thinks to himself: Well, now they shall burn ha ha! 
I don't understand this. 
When I think of such things I realize how little I know God.
God feels like a stranger when you think about this. Like somebody you don't really know.

Tell you what before I was saved & born again I delved in all kinds of things and found that many people enjoy the darkness more than the light. It is not a pretty site as many think it is. It is full of evil and impurities and not the kind of place to spend eternity in. But they lve evil & immoral deeds and thoughts. They enjoy dressing impure and they love sin. They love to drink, do drugs and harm to the body for that one time high that only the devil can provide them. They think if their friends are doing it and they want to be in "the in-crowd" they too should do it. They enjoy experimenting with witchcraft and placing spells & curses on others.
The devil may dress it up as a desirable place to be, but as the word says it all...it is Hell. It is full of darkness & evil. It is not a happy & joyful place. It is full of torment & torture. There is NO LOVE.
Lots of people love the darkness more than the light & I always ask them where do they want to spend eternity in. Do they want to send someplace full of hate or do thay want to be loved no matter what? Do they want to be accepted by friends & peers or to be part of a family that Loves them?
My money is that they love Jesus as Lord & Savior and turn away from their sins and the evil of this world.
Best idea for anyone who wants to experiment with the darkness & evil, don't go there. Sure you may have fun and excitment in your life for a while, but after a while it disappears and the real pain & torment comes into play. The devil only wants to put a good show on for a person until he has your soul then you are his for all eternity.
Best bet for anyone who wants to be part of the in crowd & be part of a real family I suggest they become part of God's family and accept Jesus into their life. there they will find real love, not fake love. They will find real friends, not the kind that wants to do you harm, but the kind that loves & cares for you.
as for me.....Now since I am saved & born again my thought are always on Jesus and the Kingdom of Heaven. My past sins are forgiven and I love God with my soul, my heart, my very being....and willing to do anything for him & our family.

Why did God choose this kind of torture?
In "revelation of hell" Mary Baxter writes about people tearing their skin off their bodies and then the skin grew back and they repeated the same thing over and over again. Did God make up this stuff? 
I cannot believe that God makes up these perverse methods of torture.
This wouldn't fit together with God. How could God create anything perverse? Only somebody who relishes in suffering could make up something like this.
Has Satan control in hell? Did he make up this stuff? Can Satan torture people in hell? Or has God determined what's going on there?
And what about the lake of fire? Will unsaved people burn as much as Satan will burn? Or will they have it a little "better" than Satan?
