Story: The Crane and The Swan

From watching the Animal Planet channel I learned that cranes are large, long-legged and long-necked birds. They like to eat frogs. Aesop, the writer of fables, gives us the fable of THE CRANE AND THE SWAN. One day a crane was wading in a stream and looking for frogs to eat when a beautiful swan landed nearby. The crane had never seen a swan before, so she asked, "What are you?" "I'm a swan," came the reply. "And where did you come from?" the crane inquired. "Heaven," the swan answered, and he eagerly spoke of a city of pure gold with jasper walls and pearly gates. At that point the crane interrupted, "Tell me, are there frogs in heaven?" "No, I'm afraid not," the swan said. "Then I don't care to go there," the crane stated decisively. "I like frogs!"

Prayer

Jesus, I know that, unlike the crane, we should all care to go to heaven! I think it is sad that some people are like that crane. They are so attached to the things of this earth that they either don’t believe in the existence of heaven or they don’t really look forward to it. Lord, may I never be like that. Please help me to continue to keep my gaze fixed on You and the Kingdom of heaven.
Amen.
