It was a calculated sacrifice.
Jesus knew he had to suffer but he also knew that nothing could happen to him and that he would be resurrected. Does this mean his sacrifice wasn't so great?
I mean Jesus already knew the end.He knew that he would have to endure pain but then everything would be good again.

To have the weight of the world's sins upon Him, to have the sicknesses of the world upon Him... to feel that weight, that evil upon Him I would not say it was nothing. He had the sins of all upon Him... God the Father could not even look upon Him because He could not look upon sin... Jesus Christ's heart was broken because of this... when the soldier pierced His side, and out flowed blood and water... that is indicative of a heart attack... so I would never say that "nothing" happened to Him... besides think about how we feel when we are sick with ONE thing, one illness.... if even for a day... then think of how that would have been for Christ Jesus, to have that weight of sickness upon Him, the sins of the world upon Him... a kabillion zakillion times intensified!

Jesus didn't sacrafice Himself. He gave up HIS life for our sins so that we can have eternal life in heaven.
