Ok,

I have posted before the story/novel of my house, so for your new folks, and ones that haven't read it beofre, here it is, along with a new chapter.

I purchased my house in Jan '03. I didn't get a home inspection, I took the people, and my agent, at face value. My agent mentioned the inspection, but didn't really push it that much. This house is 60 years old. It is a former duplex, but 2 owners ago, it was turned into one house, and an upstairs was added.

Well, when I first got into the house, I had to leave town right after that. The gas company turned off the heat, by accident, and some pipes underneath my house burst. I had a plumber come fix it, and discovered that there was very poor insulation on those very old pipes. We also discovered that when the house was remodeled, and made into one house, that it was done so very poorly. There was still very old pipes, and very poor connections were used.

Several months after that, we discovered some mold smell/buildup in one bathroom. When we had that carpet ripped up to put in a new floor, we found very significant termite damage. Turns out, when the termite letter wsa written on my house, it was written, and I signed it (really being an ********** when I signed all this paperwork,) stating that was very heavy infestation and damage. The infestation was treated one month before I bought the house, but the damage was still there. I had to have an entire bathroom replaced.

Some of the wood work is starting to rot, and in fact, my gutter/drain pipe connected to my garage has fallen down, because it was connected to the wood. There are also a few instances of wood starting to rot and have cracks in other places in the house.

Also, when the roof was put on, about 10 years ago, it was put on very poorly. There is no overhang, and also, the nails were left exposed. From the way that it has been explained to me, that lack of overhang allowed water to seep in underneath it, as well as the lack of covering over some of the nails started to get water in them as well. The roof, and the decking, needs to be replaced. Also, that water, seeping down underneath the roof, making my ceiling crack in several rooms. I have a plaster ceiling, and some of it is starting to fall down.

My latest fun is this...

I had the termite guy come over to do his yearly inspection last week, and when he ws down, he told me that there were very obvious leaks, and significant standing water. I got those leaks fixed, but also, that water started building up near my ducts. From the way it has been explained to me, there should be hangers that ductwork connects to, about every 2 feet. These hangers keep the ductwork off of the ground. Well, on all the ductwork underneath my house, there is only one hanger..where it comes into the house. That ductwork has been sitting on the ground, and has absorbed so much moisture, that it has started to crumble. At about the same time that we were finding out about the leaky pipes, that ductwork gave way. There is no heat coming into my house, and it is cold. Here in Nashville, the temperature got to 20 degrees last night, and will get even lower tonight. Luckily, we have friends that are letting us stay with them.

I think that we can get this ductwork replaced, and insulated, for hopefully not that much money. However, I barely make enough to pay the house note....these repairs have all been paid for by my in-laws. They have been as good as gold, just telling us to "take care of them when they get old." However, I am getting sick of ha ving to rely on them (they are not using it to manipulate us at all, but I just feel that they have helped us out enough.)

I talked to my father in law last night. He stated that when he comes to visit next time, we can go throughthe house, room by room, and fix everything to make it sellable, so we can get out of it. In addition to what I have told you about, I have old wallpaper, very ugly/stained/worn carpet, and some other cosmetic stuff.

I guess I just want prayers, and encouragement. I really need it. I wo uld also take suggestions of what we can do.

In Christ,m

Jeremy

We sold our home because it was going to take more money than what I bought it for originally to fix it. In retrospect right now, I wish we would have looked more into getting some help in fixing some of the things wrong with it.
There are programs that can help homeowners fix up properties, that have 1% interest over 20 yrs. The US dept. of agriculture would have info on these, and H.U.D. also has programs to help.
because of what happened with us, I am reluctant to say anything about whether you should stay or go... I can however pray for you to make the right decision~

Dearest Yahweh, I ask that You move in this situation, this prayer request with Your will being made manifest in & through it. Provide Your answer, Your will & Your way in this, & Your Word Providing guidance and comfort along with Your Holy Spirit. I ask this all in the Name above all others, Your Son Yah’shua & in His Mighty Name,by the Power of His Blood, I break off every power of the kingdom of darkness.I cancel every argument in Heaven & spoil every attack of the enemy that has tried to establish itself against this child of Yours~& Hear my prayer in the spirit dear God, concerning this, the prayer that I lift up to you in the spirit because I want to pray Your Will Heavenly Father. Praise your name Father, what a joy it is to know that we can pray and ask all of these things in the name of your Son, ~ With thanksgiving, praise & adoration... ~Amen & amen~

Well, guys,

I emailed this story to the HUD department of Tennessee. I found out that there are loans and grants for rehabbing messed up homes. While I am 100% against going into more debt to fix up the house, I am going to be getting whatever grants/freebies to fix up my house. Does anyone have any clues/suggestions?
