Does anyone here know how to intstall windows 95 when the screen says not operating system found on a laptop when it is booting up? Do I have to format the hard drive first? Do I have to install cd from a bootdisk? Any suggestions would be helpful. If anyone knows anything about this please tell me which commands to type in etc.

I am not sure if this helps..but my laptop sometimes does the same thing. It was because the hard drive came loose. Unless you have had the blue screen of death earlier, I dont think your head drive has crashed. Try to see if it's loose first and then if you need to, reload from CD.

Good Luck

If this is a laptop that was working prior, then there are a few possibilities.
1. the hard drive has come loose
2. there may be a lock switch for a removable cd etc, make sure it's locked.
3. the boot sector has been corrupted, i've had that happen before on my main comp. If that is the case, try putting the win 95 cd into the tray when booting the computer. Do not choose but from cd, but let it try to boot on it's own. That worked on my main comp as it was able to grab the boot sector info from the cd and then run from the laptop. Obviously that's not a long term solution but it was able to work for me.
4. try putting the cd in and install windows. when it asks you where you want to install pick the old installation, if it finds it, and then choose repair function. This may be able to fix any corruption and still save the data on the laptop.
5. you would need a full install with format. going this route is the most sure way of fixing the problem, but you loose all data. You can of course just buy a new hd and install it on that one. You can then take the old laptop drive and with an adaptor put it into a full size system to recover data.
I hope this helps out.
