Out with the old year, in with new Omaha babies

Omaha's first baby of 2005 came crying into the world about an hour into the new year.

Baby boy Xander Fisher was born to Erin Fisher and Patrick MacCallum at 12:56 a.m. Saturday at Creighton University Medical Center.

"He was very vocal," Fisher said. "He wanted everyone to know he was in the world."

Xander weighed in at 8 pounds, 4.6 ounces and is 21 inches long.

Xander was due last Monday and when he hadn't arrived by Thursday, Fisher was hospitalized and labor was induced. She said hard labor began by 2 p.m. Friday, and she began pushing about 10 p.m. Still, her son didn't arrive in 2004 as expected.

"I kind of wanted to have him before New Year's because of the tax breaks, plus I was sick of pushing," said Fisher, 25.

Fisher is a nursing major at Nebraska Methodist College and plans to return to school when classes resume Jan. 10.

Xander is the couple's first child. Both mother and son are in good health.

"I've been on a natural high all day," Fisher said.

Father, we ask for Your blessings on the head of this baby boy in Jesus' Name. Let no evil cause him to be harmed in any way, spiritually or physically. Bless the parents, Lord, to bring this baby up in accordance to Your Word. Let him be a mighty warrior for You in the future. In Jesus' Name we ask it. Amen.

Elliott Fisher who is Erin's grandfather has passed away. Pray for the family at this time

Lord, help this child to be raised in the best enviornment possible. Help the parents to be saved if they are not and to become Christians, the best Christian parents possible for this child. Help them to have the Christian influence they need to open their hearts and lead them into a lifestyle pleasing to You. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
