Police Officer's plight stirs Tulia hearts

TULIA - Community members are rallying to support 38-year-old Sam White - a husband, father, son, brother, friend and Tulia police officer who is battling brain cancer.

Fund raisers and "love funds" continue to gather donations to help White and his wife, Pam, a Tulia Independent School District teacher, meet medical expenses following his December surgery and upcoming chemotherapy and radiation treatments, his sister said.

"He's still in the hospital. He's been in rehab for about two weeks," said White's sister, Marsha White, of Lubbock. "Sam has a great spirit."

Although White casts an imposing figure - he stands 6 feet 2 inches tall - his quiet and unassuming demeanor have earned him a reputation as "a great man," his sister said.

Others who know him agree.

"He's a wonderful policeman," said Tulia police Capt. Scott Given. "He's such a dedicated individual. This is his niche. In my opinion, this is what he was born to do."

Petersburg High School football coach Steve Rodgers will visit Baptist St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo, where White remains. Rodgers said he is looking forward to seeing one of his favorite former players for the first time in about 20 years.

"I remember him being one of those kids who's such a hard worker," Rodgers said recently. "Sam was one of those kids who never gave up. He's having to fight for his life now. It's tough to hear that he's sick."

White graduated from Petersburg High School in 1984.

He was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in mid-December and had surgery to remove the growth almost immediately, his sister said. He continues to demonstrate both physical and emotional strength, she said.

"I am so proud to have him for my brother," Marsha White said.

Word of his illness spread rapidly, via e-mail and word-of mouth, throughout this community of more than 5,000 people, said Lisa Bice, a customer service representative for Cebridge Connections, a cable television company. Within an hour of Bice learning of White's illness through an e-mail, all three banks in town had set up "love funds," she said. Such accounts are opened either by concerned bank employees or at the request of family or community members. Bice set up a cable company fund-raiser to benefit the Whites as well.

"This is amazing how everyone pulls together," Bice said.

Conestoga Restaurant held one of the first fund-raising functions before Christmas. Between 300 and 400 people showed up to a benefit dinner, said restaurant co-owner Joe Lavender. And restaurant patrons donated another $170 into a jar on the restaurant's counter, he said. Lavender deposited the proceeds into one of the "love funds."

Police officers, firefighters and correction officers raised money among themselves, Given said.

Teachers did, too, Bice said.

Rodgers said he told his fellow church members of White's illness, and the Petersburg congregation decided to help as well.

"I've never seen such an outpouring of support," Given said. "He's a very important part of this department. We sure miss him. We can't wait to get him back."

lord I pray protect and bless policmen and firefighters every were put a wall around these brave men and women ,Lord I pray bless Sam White heal him give him victory in his battle with cancer.for we know that the battle is yours and you are able to destroy every enemy coming against Sam.for this we praise you!

Father I bring you my husband who is a police officer and this department here I ask that you protect them all and all the police officers and firefighters over the world, Please place a hedge of protection around them and hedges of thorns Lord, there is so much divorce in our department here and all across the USA, Father I bind the enemy in the name of Jesus from the Police and Firefighters, Father I bind sickness and disease from them, Lord I bind depression and all the evil things they see that harden their hearts, Father God I loose on them all the fruoits of the Holy Ghost, the Love of YOU the patience and PEace they deserve for the jobs and things they have to deal with daily. Lord Please protect all of our men and women in Uniform, bring healing, briing Restoration bring Life back into what the enemy has tried to steal from all these families, be it disease, divorce, death and so on, Protect them and fill them with the glory that is YOU so that they can minister to every person they meet out there!! Lord bring Godly people into the Departments all over Father I ask for a revival of Souls in these Departments! Lord I claim it in the mighty mighty name of your only son Jesus of NAzareth!!! Father, I lift this Officer to you for healing and Salvation if he does not know Your Son Jesus as Savior!

Lord I lift the Police and Fire Departments across America and speak protection over them and their Families! I speak vigilence and caution into their lives as the work in the forefront of danger here in America to protect and serve their Communities.

Lord I also lift my husband and the TSA personal and baggage screeners at the airports and soon to be on the ports! Lord my husband comes home and speaks of the training and dangers they face every day of their work as they scan baggage and people for weapons of all kinds. Lord I speak vigilence and protection over them, Lord keep them safe and awake as they work to keep travellers safe from the kinds of situations that happened on 9-11-01. I speak patience and mercy over them as they work with people who are not always nice about having to be searched or scanned, Lord keep them safe from those who are violent.

Lord I also have a Son who serves as Security on the main gate of McChord Air force base! LORD! the stories he can tell of security breaches and people trying to infiltrate the base! Lord, he has orders to shoot to kill, I speak against the need to do so! Keep him safe Lord and the men and women he works with. I speak protection, vigilence and integrity over them as they serve our nation in an unappreciated and overlooked way. Thank you Lord for those who serve without being seen. In the Name of Jesus! Dear Father in Heaven, I pray in behalf of Sam White who is battling this terrible cancer. I pray for divine intervention that he be healed and blessed to live a full rich life in Thee. I pray that he receives a miracle healing and this experience turns into a blessing of faith in the hearts of the family and community. I pray for all of our police force and fire fighters for their protection in the line of duty and cover them about with holy angels to guard them from harm and danger of any kind. I ask these things in the prayer of faith, in Jesus Holy Name amen.

Please bless Sam White. Please wrap Your loving, healing arms around him take from him the cancer which is weakening his body. Please give to him time to be with his family. Lord I come asking for protection for my friends Maggie who is a policeofficer and also for Darren and for Bill and for Jan's sister, and all the others I know. Lord surround them and protect them, keep them safe as they defend and protect us. Lord, God let them all come to know you as their Lord and Savior and seek you in their lives. Lord, let them find peace and give them angels to protect them. Let them be lawful and honest and stand strong in the face of temptations that come their way. Lord, thank you that you have called them to serve. Bless them in their daily lives and in their work. It is in the Name of Jesus, I ask. AMEN

Father, please let police officers of every kind, and firemen of every kind, make enough money to support their families and have a little left over (or a lot, if they chase after You).

Lord, if this man, Sam White, is not already dancing with You and Your angels in heaven, we ask that You will help him jump up and start dancing here on earth. Heal him, Lord, if You haven't already. Thank You.

Protect our law enforcement officers, Father, from all evil. Even though perfect societies don't really have a place especially for them, let them always feel comfortable mixing in with us.

Lord, let the firemen chase after spiritual fires. And then, because they are spiritual, let not one single hair on their whole bodies perish, because they run with You.

Father I lift up to you Sam white, I ask that you send your angels around him to heal him and comfort him! Lord renew his brain remove the cancer!!!! Father pour your Holy Spirit through him to heal every single part of him that has been damaged by this disease!!! I ask this in your mighty name! And I come into agreement with everyone else praying for this family!!!

Father I also ask that yousend your Holy Spirit over all these Police Departments, Father I ask for your grace and mercy at our Dept here, Lord there is so much divorce going on here, so much adultry so much alcoholism, Father you know the people here that need to be touched, Father God I ask for your Mercy on DCPD Lord please send whatever it takes to protect these families that are being ripped apart! Lord, you know the specifics, I need not say them here, Lord, this is a constant unspoken prayer of mine, These officers and families need YOU so badly, its breaking my heart Father God, please I plead with you, save this department, save these men and women, remove these spirits floating around here. To lift up each and every officer, whether fire or police department, in each and every city, town, county, state, country and nations across this world. That each of them may serve with dignity and integrity. For those that don't know you, please place someone within their reach who would teach them about you.For those who do know you, help them to be strong witnesses for you. Dear Heavenly Father, I pray for Your continued blessings and spirit upon Sam White in is struggles against cancer. I ask for a miracle and healing. I pray for our police and firemen throughout the country. They fight a hard job on the frontlines against the adversary every day. Send angels to protect them against the violence and any kinds of harm or dangers. Guide them in their work looking for the lost children. Pour out Your spirit I ask in Jesus Holy Name amen.
