Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Does this mean that whatever you say be it positive or negative has an effect on your life? Or what does it mean?

I found a cross reference scripture for that:

Matthew 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

In my opinion I think it means that what we say can have an effect on our soul and we will be judged by them. I think about some of the words in some or a lot of the music today that can have some really bad content and seems really evil. My husband was listening to a program they have on TV every Saturday night in Norway with different musical artists. They had this one really heavy rock band on that was out of this world. I couldn't understand a word they were saying, but everything about the way they sang and looked was far from anything uplifting. Then I think about this website where we try to build each other up with our words, used for praying, worshiping etc. I guess our words are like a mirror to our soul. Does anybody else have any other thoughts about this scipture Fredrick found?

I don't have my bible right in front of me right now but I am reminded of something Paul said in Romans: Call those things which are not as if they were.
Why? Because there is life and death in the spoken word. We have to be careful of the things we say as well as do. In our very mouths we have the ability to speak life or death. We usually speak what is in our hearts, our words reflect what we are feeling. So we have to be careful in what we are taking in and what is coming out. And especally what is coming out.

Two real life instances come to mind (I'll try to be brief)

A friend of mines Aunt got sick and was rushed to the hospital. When we got the call my friend (who is not saved) began to speak w/o regards to her words and it went along these lines "she needs to die, she is old and she needs to quit suffering. I don't think she is going to make it through the night. Well, I guess I need a black dress. etc" Immediately, I opened my mouth to combat what she said along these lines "she won't go a minute before God wants her to no matter how it looks or seems. She WILL make it through the night and through the week and year if that is Gods will for her to. etc." In my mind I was thinking...my God if I were sick I would not want this friend by my side. She would have me in the ground. I would want someone who knows Jesus and can intercede and help pull me through.

On a smaller scale:
I went to the car dealership to find a new car. Well, automatically the salesperson came with the number one question "What kind of payments are you looking for?" but again, I remembered what the bible says and I simply said "I am not LOOKING for a car payment, I am looking for a car". Well, that seemed scarcastic I am sure but today I have a car and NO car payment.

Ever notice how when people are sick they claim the sickness and wonder why they can't be healed? Watch...
MY diabetes, MY heart condition, MY high blood, MY cancer is.., MY migraine, MY, MY, MY...

Our level of faith is reflected in what we say and do.

Yes, this is actually the stuff I was thinking of but I was not sure if this verse really means it or wether it means what Sulten said.
But does this on the other hand mean that making a negative confession will definitely have a negative effect?
Does this mean that I can influence anything by simply speaking positive stuff? Is this not a sort of witchcraft? I mean this whole positive thinking stuff seems dangerous to me, it's like all you need is faith and it doesn't even matter what kind of faith. Positive thinking also helps muslims and buddhists cause it's simply positive thinking.

Frederik, this is an awesome topic and I love ministering in it. Thanks for the opportunity

Lets look at Luke 6:45 (red letter, this is Jesus speaking) A good man, out of the good treasure of his heart, bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man, out of evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil; FOR OF THE ABUNDANCE OF THE HEART HIS MOUTH SPEAKETH.

You see it is not a matter of just thinking positive; you are correct in your analogy. What it is a matter of is what is in the HEART!! God is not just saying to us to think positive. We know there are times when we simply can't think positive in a situation and there is no need fooling ourselves. In fact we are told in 1 Peter 4:12 to "Think it not strange concerning fiery trials which is to test you" and the book of Job tells us that "man born of a woman is but a few days and full of trouble".So we know we have trials and troubles and no way we can simply 'think' positive and feel good about them.

But what God is telling us is that what matters is what is in the heart!! God looks beyond our skin, our sometimes confused thoughts and looks at the heart of a man. And it is out of this heart that man speaks.

Let me give another simple example (again I will try to be brief):
Remember the friend who spoke so negative about her aunt? Well, part two of the story is this. The woman did die. BUT...she also made it through the night and several more days before God called her home. It was not my will power/positive thinking that could have saved her life. No way, I could have prevented Gods will. What I did was say "God I believe you. And no matter what this family says or even what the doctor says, I KNOW this woman won't die until it is you will, your time and your purpose." and that is what happened. Because of what was in our hearts my friend and I reacted differently.
