Hello,
I need some clarification about Absolution. Can anyone give me a lucid explanation about forgiveness through Absolution? Today I had an interesting discussion with a friend whom is of the Catholic denomination and she informs me that in order to be forgiven by our sins, when needs abolution first, is this correct? Please let me know about this as soon as possible. I personally believe forgiveness comes through repentence and the fruits of your actions towards one another, in addition, keeping the 10 commandments etc...Most significantly, asking God for forgiveness through Christ our Lord and Savior. In addition, forgiving others as He has forgiven us, in Jesus Namel.
Thank you and many blessings,
Illuminate

I grew up Catholic as well and last week, finally bid farewell to the Church of the Pope for good! I have been saved and born again (ask your Catholic friend about that- many have no clue!) and in my final farewell to the Church of the Pope, I was baptized a CHRISTIAN (ask your friend if he/she is a Catholic or a Christian- many are confused)

A Christian Bible (KIng James, NAS Version) has NOTHING about absolution- it is strictly a CATHOLIC thing!! I had to research my Catholic Bible...and WHOOMP! There it is!

From the Catholic Bible (the ONLY Bible Catholics are authorized to read) "

"ABSOLUTION: 1. The power of a priest to forgive sins through the Sacrament of Pennance. All rightfully ordained eccliastics can remit the sins of penitents who confess their sins, express sorrow for having committed them, resolve not to offend God again and perform pennances given them.
2. Conditional absolution is given when the priest is not sure the penitent has fulfilled all the requirements necessary for complete absolution.
3. Absolution of the dead is a blessing given and the prayers saide for the deceased after a Requiem Mass."

(edited by jerry... the personal remarks are not necessary. There are as many sinners in the baptist and assembly of God as there are catholics. So lets not get personal.)

FORGIVENESS, not absolution!
When I went up and accepted Jesus, it was this easy:

Do you accept Jesus Christ as your PERSONAL SAVIOUR?
Do you believe that Jesus Christ is God's ONLY Son?
Do you believe that there is only ONE God?
How many of your sins has God forgiven (hint; ALL OF THEM!! Pastor had to prompt me )
How many more of your sins is God going to forgive? (I got this one right- ALL OF THEM)

(edited by jerry again no need to get personal) they get the point

Forgiveness is God's greatest gift and it's there for the asking!

My husband said I needed to explain Penance.

The Sacrament of Penance is predicated upon three acts of the penitent: contrition, confession, and penance.
1. Contrition is sorrow and detestation for the sin committed witht he resolution not to sin again. The resolution not to sin again must be firm and includes a resolve to avoid the occasions of sin and extends to the mortal sins that one might commit

2. Confession is the telling of our sins to an authorized priest for the purpose of obtaining forgiveness (I guess God's not authorized) A good confession must have 3 qualities: it must be humble, sincere, and complete.

3. Penance or satisfaction is necessary for a good confession in order to make reparation to God and to take away the temporal punishment due to sin

Confess your sins to GOD. He knows what you did, thought and said. Why bog yourself down with middle men like priests and saints? We can LIE to another human being, but we can't lie to God. He knows the truth. ALWAYS!
The fact that your forgiveness is dependant upon someone else's perceptions of whether you are sincere makes this a little unsettling. What if the rectory was out of coffee? What if the priest remembers someone's voice from last week? Can they withhold forgiveness because the person is trying to get right, but has fallen off the track a few times? We all fall short of the grace of God. But he forgives.
God loves us UNCONDITIONALLY- no matter what!! God's Word in the Bible is the inerrant truth; no secret codes, no hidden messages- just the instruction manual that spans all religions.
Lean on God's Word. A church should encourage its members to follow along in the Bible and require them to read the Bible- it's not only for scholars or ordained people. It's for all of us.

Let's look at what the Word of God has to say

So my Catholic friend please consider and pray about these verses and tell me what the Holy Spirit tells you

It starts in the Old Testament first
LEV 26:40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;

JBO 33:27 He looketh upon men, and [if any] say, I have sinned, and perverted [that which was] right, and it profited me not;
JBO 33:28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

PSA 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

PSA 51:2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin [is] ever before me. 51:4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done [this] evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, [and] be clear when thou judgest.

PRO 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh [them] shall have mercy.

Then in the new testament:
MAT 3:6 ¶ And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

MAR 1:5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of
Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan,
confessing their sins.

ACS 19:18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

EPH 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

AND THE CLEAREST VERSE OF ALL
1JO 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

SO YOU SEE MY FRIEND
As it was in the old it is in the new
Confession is an individual responsibility
Please pray about this and let us know what you think.

Thank you Marksentme for acknowledging and making a prompt response to my question in regards to absolution. By the way, congratulations on becoming a born again Christian. Yay for you! You will begin to experience a beautiful almost surreal peace, love and joy with inside of you! It is going to be the best decision in your life, I just know it....God is awesome and when u recieve the Holy Spirit, He is just amazing how you can begin to recognize signs, messengers, by reading etc...You will be able to see and hear God's Divine intervention in many different ways and in areas of your life. God bless you Marksentme! OKay, so I got very passionate here, now, let's go back to the question. I thank you once again. I have discussed many issues about the Catholic denomination with my best friend. She has many good points and I respect her believes. However, we do have a difference of opinions in many, but, I love her as a sister so I will not push the subject too much. In my perspective, many denominations (unfortunately there are many) pray differently but we all pray to the same God in heaven (hope so). At least I know she does. The way I see it, God is almighty and He will be the judge of all. He will lead us to Him when the timing is right. He wants our Faith in Him and so He has it. I myself, and as I have stated before am a born again Christian for 8 months now. I love it! I love the way God has helped me to feel good inside. I can go on and on and on but I need to post another question...Thank you so much Marksentme and keep the Faith! In Jesus name!

A new creature in Christ,
Illuminate

Thank you Jerry for responding to my inquiry and taking the time to find scriptures to lucidly explain the respond as well. By the way, my friend is of the Catholic denomination, not me. I became a born again Christian 8 months ago. I actually was actually never interested in the Catholic religion. In any case, as I have stated with Marksentme. I have come to a conclusion that many denominations pray differently but believe in the same God, I hope. We all have a difference of opinions but the truth is only God will be the judge and only He can lead us to the right path when the timing is right. I respect how many people pray for God in their own different way and because of their faith in Him, He will not reject them. God is awesome and sincerely loves us all, therefore, He welcomes everyone with open arms. Unfortunately denominations have made their own man made rules about what to do what not to do etc....But God is greater and He will open everyone's hearts and minds.

Thank you so much Jerry!
