Greetings to all,
I have two inquiries and hope to comprehend with your humble help. 1) Where in the bible does it explain about holidays? I recieved an email with an invitation to a holloween party but I have never been thrilled about this particular holiday. It is creepy and I think it offends the Lord. Can anyone tell me a little about how this holiday goes against God's rules and how offensive it is? I genuinely feel I need to tell the person as to why I can not attend. Any suggestions besides it isn't my cup of tea? 2) Can anyone explain more clearly what exactly does Colossians 2:16, 17 signify? Incidentally, I found it interesting because of the holiday word.
Thank you in advance and God be with everyone on this awesome website...In Jesus name.

This is a very interesting topic for discussion I think. I'd like to hear what other's might have to say. My husband mentioned that Jehovah Witnesses don't believe in celebrating most holidays, not even birthdays. But I wonder what scriptures they may be taking to support those ideas if any. I don't think they even celebrate Christmas. My husband also mentioned that Halloween was originally a relgious feast day and they started wearing masks to scare off evil spirits. But of course today it has turned into something completely different then that.
I to would be really interested to hear what any other Christians might know about Lorena's question.

Christian Commando:
As far as holidays we have, no I don't know of any Scriptures God speaks of concerning such things. The main concerns He gives us on such things pertains to practices we are to avoid.
Is Holloween against God? Yes, for several reasons.
1- If research the past history of the origin of Holloween, you'll find it started as a satanic imitation to christmas.
NOTE- Simplest explaination is, it's like satan devising a way for his followers to celebrate following him, as is christmas a way to celebrate Christ.
2- It celebrates mostly a ritual of demonic, witchcraft and other types of evil spiritual beings.
(Gouls, goblins, ghosts, witches, vampires, etc).
3- The celebration involves the dressing up to look like such beings, creatures, etc, along with the "trick or treat" ritual followed- either treat the kids or they will trick you, etc.
This is why the general origin behind Holloween is against God, even tho the table can be turned, as with my old church providing Godly activities, along with Godly costumes worn and no tricking if not treated, etc.
My old Pastor even has a session or sermon that night on the holiday and how they have chosen to change the celebration of satanic things, over to Godly ones, which breaks strong holds, rituals and more that used to glorify satan, to discrediting him and his hordes.
There are some leaders of Christianity who have books out about particular holidays and thier origins, but also ways to celebrate them different to Glorify God rather than satan or demons.

Forgive me tho, I forgot the one other question about Colo. 2:16-17.
If you were to read earlier Scriptures leading up to those you asked about, notice Paul is writing about christian conduct in thinking and operating-including speech).
The word used there has nothing to do with holidays, as Paul stated it- "holydays". In a way it relates to holidays like we have in americas, but more in reference to the "extra Jewish holy or "Sabbath" days" they held to in Jewish custom.
As for particular holidays, I don't get too excited, just change the format of activities to Glorify God and only think of godly reasons to celebrate them. If don't. there is a big mess.
Research shows, the days of our week for several are named after particular Greek gods- Saturday- god of Saturn. Sunday- False god of the sun. Monday- false god of the moon, etc.
Then they bring up things like not accepting holidays like Easter- started based on a belief in the false god of fertility.
See what I mean? Just celebrate each holiday, but do so in a manner that Glorify's God our Father in Heaven and no other.
God Bless!!
