Prayer help...

I posted a dream on the Dreams & Visions board and got a reply from Bill.
He said that God was calling me to be in continual prayer for people.
My question is how do I do that? I don't know how to pray for long periods of time since I start repeating myself. The only way I can go for long periods of time is if the Holy Spirit is guiding me which does not happen often. The Bible says that we should be in continous prayer. (and) I've heard it a thousand times at church but noone tells you HOW to do it. So what do I do? If this is my calling then I want to get started and I need help! Thankyou! :>

Being an intercessor is a wonderful ministry. I will get some info together and post it for your consideration - give me a few days.

I guess I am such a chatterbox that being in constant prayer is just a continuation of talking to others. Instead of talking to them, I talk about them to the Lord (one of the biggest perk of my job is 4 hours of quiet time- though the Lord could tell you I am anything but quiet!)
My church's secretary just handed me a "laundry list" of what to pray for for the whole month of November, so now I can have some direction to my prayers. Maybe that would help you to write down who and what to pray for and about.

MSM that's a good suggestion. I'll have to start writing up a list!
Hope it doesn't get too long though. I almost start envisiong having to start carrying a suitcase just to hold the list! LOL! :>
Thankyou!

I had very similar questions and this is what I've found -
Prayers don’t have to be long because just one word, “Jesus” is a prayer – and what a prayer! IMHO praying continually is like when we get up in the morning, many people thank the Lord for a new day, their family, His love, our undesired favor, etc. They continue to praise the Lord and pray for Israel while they shower, go through their morning exercise program, do tasks in the home. Before they eat breakfast, they thank Him for their food. While they’re listening to the news, they pray for the President and all other governmental officials and others who are in the news. As they walk out the door to go to work or school, they pray for the Lord to direct their steps, speak protection for their biological and spiritual families, themselves, etc.. So just going through daily routines, they’ve already had several prayer opportunities within just the first few minutes of their day. Then there are lots of daily opportunities for prayers such as while stopped at traffic lights; waiting for appointments; office situations; emergency vehicles are going to help people who need the Lord’s help; elevator time; people zipping in and out of traffic; businesses; motorcyclists; schools; hospitals; nursing homes; people who look lonely; etc. Since we're to seek the Lord's help about everything, prayers aren't limited just to people. Additionally…
We really need to establish a time daily where God has our undivided attention where we can truly worship Him, pour our hearts and souls to Him and then listen, listen to Him. There's a Bible verse about praying early in the morning - did spend some time looking for it but wasn't able to locate it.
Found if I cut out most of tv time I have a lot more time to pray. Thought I needed that time to relax and then one day I realized spending that time worshiping the Lord and really be at peace. Recently I read where a young man worshipped the Lord for 4-12 hours a day for months and continues. Wow! Can you imagine how his walk with the Lord grew?
In relationship to praying the same words repetitively, I know I do sometimes and really shouldn’t because I think that's praying out of obligation - being religious. On the other hand, calling on Jesus’ name or declaring how holy He is repetitively, then it’s meaningful if heartfelt.
If you like to read, recommend Juanita Bynum’s "Threshing Floor" about praying and being an intercessor. IMHO when we pray for my four and no more - our relationship with the Lord doesn't grow that much. Also, when we ask the Lord to show us opportunities to pray there will be an abundance.

The young man that prayed 4-12 hrs daily for months - that was undivided attention -just to the Lord -time.

Ericsmom thanks so much for all of your thoughts and suggestions!
I will try and put into pracitce some of the things you suggested. I know that the only way my prayer life is going to get lengthier(sp?) is if the Lord helps me. I hear you about praying in the morning early since I knnow alot of people do that. For me though it has always been in the early evening or at night when the Lord talks to me most. That also stretches into the early morning sometimes 1-2 AM. It's also when I do my praying and Bible reading and read up on whatever He's teaching me. That time has always been "the time" for all of that. Thanks for the book suggestion! I LOVE Juanita Bynum! I've not had a reason to read one of her books but I do now! Thankyou!
