Jehova's Witness at the door

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I had some Jehova's Witnesses come to my door, they were nice and all but everytime they want to talk you out of Jesus is not God, he is only a man.

They brought up the scripture in Matthew about how nobody knows the time the Son of God will return, not the son himself or the angels, but only the father.

They said, If Jesus is God wouldnt He know what the father thought? I said thats a good point, but without a Holy Sacrifise you don't have salvation.

Just curious how to explain Jesus is God?
If God is Jehova, then who is the Holy Spirit? That would mean God isn't even on the earth, because Jehova's witness believe in one God Jehova, but Holy Spirit is then just another "godly" spirit to them? It doesnt make sense to me why they believe that. They said its not possible to be 3 things at once, but I was like God can do anything.

The Bible says those that deny that Jesus came in the flesh are from the Antichrist. They deny the Father and the Son. Read 1 John 2:22 & 1 John 4:3. This is a dangerous deception. You may want to bind any influence the antichrist spirit has had on your thinking in Jesus name and ask afresh for a revelation from God the Father of His delight, favor, ecstatic joy, and ridiculously generous affection that He has towards His Son. Satan would rob you of all these benefits you can partake of IN CHRIST if he can undermine the truth of Jesus identity.

And as for the Jehovah Witnesses... I personally consider them enemies of the cross. They are condemned in this deception and seek to spread their doom to others. Don't allow a word from them. Here's another rule of thumb from the Apostle John regarding how to deal with those that would confuse you:

"If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him Godspeed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds" (2 John 10 & 11).

"I and the Father are ONE" (John 10:30)

The way I explain the Trinity (like to my kids) is this: "God is the Father in heaven. Jesus is God in the flesh. The Holy Spirit is God Whom resides within us. All three are One in the same. Not three separate, but three inextricably tied. You can't have One without the other 2."

God has many names in the Bible: Abba, Jehovah, Alpha and Omega, Emmanuel, I Am...

Beware of door-to-door religion salesmen. When they realize that you are a tad rusty on your Bible facts, they twist Scripture and try to stump you with logic, when only faith is what is required. Some will use phrases and statements that "sound" like they are from Scripture. Always ask,"Where is that in the Bible?" and have them physically show you- in the Holy Bible, not The WatchTower or the Book of Mormon or any supplemental books. If it's not in Scripture, kick it to the curb! Do not try to go head-to-head with them, they have YEARS of training in the art of proselytizing! Just ask them to show you the verse in the Bible which supports their claim. Read it for yourself. Read the verse before and after, so that the verse is not taken out of context. You have to read ALL of Matthew 24, not just one line!
Colossians 2:8 "See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ."

I took a class at my church: "Share Jesus Without Fear" The book is written by Willian Fay. It is a great book about evangelizing without having to memorize Scripture or have a testimony handy. What I think is great about this class is that it removes all of the animosity and exchange that sometimes can go along with evangelism. It takes the memorization of Scripture (an subsequently, the risk of error) out of it.
There are some very easy, non-threatening questions to ask:

Step One

1. Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
You say NOTHING. No matter what they answer with, keep a poker face and do not say anything. Maybe a nod or "uh-huh" but DO NOT correct them!

2. To you, who is Jesus? Again. ZIP! Let them answer without trying to steer them or correct them. Even if they say the most off-the-wall answer! Just nod.

3. Do you believe there is a heaven and hell? No matter what they say. QUIET! If they say that we all become worm food or that there's 7 levels of purgatory, accept it and LISTEN.

4. If you died right now, where would you go? If they answer heaven, ask "why"? (especially if on the previous question they answered either worm food or "no")

5. If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
If they say "no", say thank you and walk away. Do not try to pursuade them or prove anything. Just "Thank You, have a nice day" and leave. If it's a Jehovah at your door, say "Thank You" and close the door. The convo' is ended and you are not to try to convert anyone or sell them anything
If they answer "Yes", then open your Bible and begin.

Step Two

Let The Bible Speak:

Let the person read the verses aloud. God has a lot to say in His Word. By using the Bible and letting the person read for themselves, they know you are not putting words into their mouth or changing the meaning of Scripture.
Get a small pocket-sized Bible. It's not intimidating like the Big Bertha could be. Mark your Bible, by highlighting the verses. Also start at Romans 3:23, write on the bottom of the page, upside down, so you can read it. Your job is a page-turner. God will do the talking!

1. Romans 3:23- "All have sinned..."
Ask the person,"What does this say to you?" and let them speak! If they talk for an hour about it, LISTEN!

2. Romans 6:23- "For the wages of sin is death" (know that death means 'forever separated from God- Hell) Ask what that verse means to them and BE QUIET.

3. John 3:3- "You must be born again." Ask 'Why did Jesus come to die?'
Their words, not yours! No leading.

4. John 14:6- "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life"

5. Romans 10:9-11 "If you confess...you will be saved."

6. 2 Corinthians 5:15- "Those that live should no longer live for themselves."

7. Revelation 3:20- "I stand at the door and knock"

Step Three

Close With Key Questions

1. Are you a sinner?

2. Do you want forgiveness for your sins?

3. Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again?

4. Are you willing to surrender your life to Christ?

5. Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life and into your heart?

Be Silent...And Pray

Prayer (not a magic prayer. This prayer does not save you!)

Heavenly Father, I have sinned against You. I want forgiveness for all my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for me and rose again. Father, I give You my life to do with as You wish. I want jesus Christ to come into my life and into my heart. This I ask in Jesus' name. Amen.

Sounds like you did a pretty good job!

The Holy Spirit helped you know what to say...
Lord, I come to you in prayer for the dear Jehovah Witnesses.

They are so much more faithful to go door to door and share their beliefs than we are.

I bless them with the light of the truth and ask you to shine in each of their hearts.

Give us more courage to witness as they do.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.

I think that is really interesting. I had two very nice woman come to my apartment a couple of days ago. They started to read a scripture to me and ask them if they could hold on I went and got my bible (the one with two different translations) and read what they were reading from my bible. I allowed them to read from my bible as well. There was no questioning of my faith, or debate about scripture. In fact the visit was very quick and ended at my front door. The young ladies didn't come in. I bless God because the threshold of my door is anointed in the name of Jesus!!! I didn't realize that these ladies were Jehovah's witnesses until the wanted to give me a copy of The Watch Tower. When I closed my front door I thought interesting?? I didn't think much of it again until I read this post!

Cool great advice guys(and ladies, or just ladies).

They've been to the door about 3 times (just recently this one happened), but Ive never seen one without the sidebook by the Watch Tower Organization. And MarkSentMe, you have a lot of great advice!

I never heard of New World Translation, and I did a little research about it and Jehova's witness. This seemingly challenge to my faith that the devil probably wanted to make me feel like the Bible was wrong actually made me look all over the place and pray to find the facts!

Anyways I do have a question on this verse:
Mat 24:36 "But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. (ESV)

They are saying, If the son doesnt know something, he cant be the Father too, they should all know the same thing. I also noticed in the Bible of many translations at the bottom it says "nor the son is not included in all manuscripts". I didnt find "nor the son" in the MKJV or KJV Bibles, but I did in most of the newer ones.

I know Jesus limited himself, because he could have had a legion of angels come to his side when the centurions were arresting him, but he didnt. (when peter cut off an ear). But why do some bibles say nor the son, and other dont? It doesnt really bother me, I just want to know so I can write an article to correct a question Im unsure about at the moment!.

KJV 1 John 5:7 ...There are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

KJV John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

KJV John 8:12 ...Spake Jesus,...I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

KJV John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

KJV Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

KJV John 14:6 Jesus saith,...I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 11 ...I am in the Father, and the Father in me.... 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

KJV Mark 12:28 And one of the scribes...asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? 29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
KJV Ephesians 6:10 ...Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.

KJV John 6:43 Jesus...said.... 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him....

KJV John 14:16 ...I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
KJV 2 Corinthians 5:17 ...If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 20 ...We pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
KJV Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
KJV Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
KJV Romans 4:3 For what saith the scripture? (Genesis 15:6) Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 5 ...To him that...believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

KJV 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord...is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

KJV 1 Corinthians 12:3 ...No man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

KJV 1 Corinthians 12:3 ...No man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

KJV Romans 5:5...The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

KJV Ephesians 1:12 ...In Christ. 13 ...after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

KJV Romans 15:13 ...The God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

stick to the KJV for it is the most accurate for the newer versions have left some important things out and have watered the word down. supposedly to help people understand the word easier. the lord will enable you to understand and will enlighten his word by his holy spirit.

stick to the king james version and you will not get into all this confusion. use a stongs concordance along with it or a king james study bible also and that will help.

why is your title "lostseed" may i ask? are you not born again of the spirit of God or just thought that was a catchy name? Just curious!!

the lord will enlighten you as to what he wants you to know if you are born again and he is more than glad to give you the wisdom and knowledge you are seeking for when you need it and are ready for it.

I have a NIV translation, a Christian Standard Bible translation and a KJV. Both the CSB and NIV have the phrase "other mss omit nor the Son"

They (the Jehovah's Witnesses) probably focus on the "nor the Son" as a means to discredit Jesus and to further their religion and the need for supplemental non-biblically-sound texts. I look at it as a sign of respect as Jesus acknowledging that even He is accountable to God the Father.
The Jehovah's Witnesses have changed their prophesy of when Jesus was to return, from 1914 to several other dates, to finally admitting that "no one knows". So it seems that in an effort to save face and recover from the embarrassment of empty/ false prophesy, they choose to discredit our Lord.

BTW: dudesmegan is absolutely right on! They are a cult.

this is correct as it is not the sons job or position to know when he will come for his bride. it is the Father that tells the son to go get her. (confusing?)
not really. let us see if God can clear up a few minor details. first we were made in Gods image(right?) here is how first God is a trinity the Father,Son and Holy Spirit and guess what, so are we! body, soul and spirit.
God can and has divided the three as my Lord said unto my Lord, sit thou at my right hand untill I make thy enemies thy footstool, the son of man sits ar the right hand of God the Father to make intercession for those who believe.
it is not very hard to understand if you keep it simple(God is NOT the author of confusion)(satan is) we at the time of our phyical death seperate, the body go back to the ground from wince it came and the soul go either under the throne of God the Father to await the Judgement or opens up it's eyes in hell and the spirit goes back to the Father whom gave it(three into one) if I have this wrong then please free me from the deceptive spirit so I can get it right. thank you for your prayers always.

Hey everyone-

I noticed this is quite old a subject, but just thought I'd add unto the incredile responces a;ready given. Here is a small list of Scriptures pertaining to the proof of the "Deity of Christ" as "God in the flesh-

Matt.22:42-45, Mark 14:61-64, Jhn 1:1-3,14,18,34,49, 9:35-38, 12:38-41, 14:9,19:7, Acts 4:10-12, Rom. 1:1-4, I Jhn 1:1-3, 5:10-13, 20.

Fact is, Jesus Christ came not to destroy the "Law", but to fulfill It. An it was God the Father who lead the Jews out of Egypt and to thier inherited land.

Thus, because it was God who prophecied all Old Test future plans, it was Christ sent by the Father to fulfill them. And Christ Himself. while stating He came to do His Father's Will, also states "I and My Father are one", God declares, His Word was with Him, and in Him since the beginning and was Him made manifest in the flesh.

And God declares He created all thing by the Son- (Jesus Christ) and thru the Holy Spirit- (Not by His power, but by His Spirit were all things created).

And God declares of man's creation- "Let US make man in OUR image".

And as mentioned before y others, there are all kinds of Scriptures to prove Christ's "Deity" as "God in the flesh".

God Bless!!

Yes, a study of the Jewish Wedding Traditions is very enlightening for many of the things Jesus [Yeshua] said about coming back for His bride.

I would make a correction, however, that the body goes into the ground, but the soul AND spirit go to heaven or to hell, depending on the choice made while here on earth.
