"The Radical Shift"

I believe that many people have felt that with the sudden outbreak of hostilities in the Middle East, that something of a shift has happened in the Spirit. God has been speaking to me about this for a while, and in the last several days, He has crystallized my understanding. It is my hope that these insights might be helpful to some.

Warlords and Wealth
Historically, the nations that have attacked the Israel and the Jewish people (and raised their fists in rage against America) have been led by what one might call "Warlords." These dictators cared nothing for their people. Their goal and ambition was the continuance of their own power and wealth. Examples of this type of leader include Arafat, Saddam Hussein, and the Assad's, who rule Syria. North Korea's leaders also fall into this category.

Because the goal of these leaders is the continuation of their own rule, the amassing of huge personal wealth, and oftentimes the creation of huge edifices to memorialize their glory, they felt very comfortable living completely dishonest lives. They would rise up the specter of the evil West (“the Great Satan”), as a rallying cry for the people. The West was the source of the people's poverty and misery...especially Israel. With the people's discontent thus focused, they could avoid elections and assault the country for personal profit.

Arafat is a perfect example of this type of leader. All Palestinian problems are Israel's fault...and if only the West would give more money, he would get the people settled and at peace. He had no trouble saying whatever would get him more international aid. Every time he was successful in negotiating an aid package, he proved himself invaluable to his people. His credibility and legitimacy made him irreplaceable. Arafat wasn't a true jihadist Muslim. His mission to destroy Israel was real, but it was seriously corrupted by his own ambition of personal wealth and power. Arafat died with untold millions stashed away.

Saddam Hussein did the same thing with France and Russia. He went too far with the USA, and forfeited his empire. When Saddam Hussein was captured, he had the better part of a million dollars in US currency on his person. To these men, Islam was a means to an end; the end being personal power, wealth, and glory. Accordingly, they had a weak point. They could be bought because they feared the loss of their kingdoms.

The Saudis have taken a brilliant path. They simply co-opt the West by agreeing with it as much as necessary, while maintaining strict Shia Law. The royal family has socked away over a trillion dollars in assets. Most of this money is invested in European banks and businesses. At the same time, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (not the royal family), borrows billions from European banks for Saudi state projects.

Who will repay those loans should the royal family lose power? If the Saudis were overthrown, might the next "dynasty" default on those loans, saying that they are not responsible for the debt? Surely Europe cannot afford to oust the Saudis. Finally, the Saudis and the other oil-rich Arab states have used these borrowed funds to greatly improve the lives of their people so, for them, as well as most Arabs with something to lose, Jihad is a hobby.

Our Culture Tolerance
Perhaps, the trademark of modern Western culture is tolerance. The mantra of the West is to be considerate and sensitive to those unlike you. We are taught from our birth that to be a homosexual, sodomite, transvestite, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, rich, poor, Hispanic, African, a biker, a hairdresser, whatever, is totally ok. For some, it's ok to eat pork. For others, it is not. In fact, true Christians are criticized and mocked for merely having opinions that contradict this pervasive tolerance.

Not so in the Islamic world. Children there are taught from the first to be intolerant. They look at homosexuality and say, "That is wrong." [And it is!]

They look at eating pork and say, "It's wrong." Moreover, people who do wrong things are to be stopped. Allah (for the Islamic people) intends for those who practice right things to rule the world, and he is counting on his followers to accomplish this. In fact, he will reward with Paradise, to those who give their lives to destroy those who practice these wrong things, including the killing of Americans and Jews. [It’s ok to murder and butcher people as long it’s done for the ‘right’ reasons].

A New Breed of Muslim Leader
But, as I said, tyrants up to this point, whose chief aim was the continuation of their own power, have ruled Muslin nations. But now, in 2006 there has been a Radical Shift. A New Breed of Muslim leader has been voted in by an electorate tired of rampant corruption, and the use of public resources for personal gain.

The recent Palestinian and Iranian elections were historic. This was the first time the old style "con the West" type leader, was successfully opposed by Muslim idealists who are passionate about their beliefs. With the election of Hamas and Mamoud Ahmedinejad men, who "walk the walk" not just "talk the talk," have been elected.

The world has been stunned by Hamas' refusal to recognize Israel. We find it unthinkable that they won't compromise. Why don't they understand that they could have their own state, and huge amounts of Western aid if they would just say they would "recognize" Israel. But they won't, because these are men who were elected based on the consistency of their lives and beliefs, not on their monetary ambition. This really is a New Breed in the Arab world. This kind of leader is passionate about Islam and is operation oriented, not personal gain oriented. This kind of leader won't lie to the West for personal gain (although they will for their mission of the ascension of Islam).

Ahmedinejad (of Iran) is a fiery dictator. He has galvanized the Muslim world. For years, their leaders have taught hatred towards the West, while all the time, compromising for fear of losing their empires. Ahmedinejad, on the other hand, has real belief in his Allah. He is not afraid to confront the West in the spirit of Osama bin Laden. Unlike Osama though, he is the head of a powerful nation. He means what he says. Make no mistake, Ahmedinejad, will brutally murder, in the name of Allah, any Iranian opposition whatsoever.

Now is the Time
Ahmedinejad's message to the Islamic world is new. The old message was, "If we wait, the West will destroy itself with its own corruption. The new spirit in the Muslim world is 'Now is the Time.'"

We as believers, have long believed, based on our view of Scripture, that we are in the "end times." As of July 2006, we have entered a new era where the Muslim National leaders commenced to act on their version of end-time theology. In their growing unity in the Muslim world, now led by Ahmedinejad and the Iranian clerics, they are acting out their end-time blaze that fulfills their theological, yet mistaken beliefs. And, make no mistake; they believe they will win. [Just like satan!] For the first time, they are not afraid to confront the West. Nor does Ahmedinejad care if he loses his kingdom. Personal gain is not his agenda. He and the leaders of Hamas are serious about Allah in the way they commit suicide terror acts.

This is a new situation and indeed, a very dangerous one. Hamas cannot be bought. Iran cannot be bought. The West's entire negotiating strategy is based on the fundamental principle that "your enemy won't act in a way that has the very real chance of 'losing and ending' in his own destruction." This type of "mutual deterrence" worked well against Russia in the Cold War. It is also an effective approach to dealing with North Korea ruled by the "old style" dictator. However, it has now become ineffective against a true religious zealot; Ahmedinejad simply doesn't care if Lebanon is destroyed.

What Does Radical Shift Mean?
It means two spiritual "End Time" theologies have come into conflict in a new and historic way, in the spirit and in the natural. It means the West must be relentless in its pursuit of Islamic leaders like Ahmedinejad. What it means to us as believers, is that we cannot face this enemy with the complacency of those who must protect our own kingdoms. God is calling believers to the same kind of "the time is now" abandonment.

We must be a follower of Christ, who puts the Kingdom of God before the kingdom of ministry, the kingdom of family, and the kingdom of personal need. This is a very hard saying. As Mike Bickle says, "This preaches better then it lives." I myself, am reproved.

Nevertheless, God is the Great Motivator, who has called us to give our lives inconveniently. He has given us examples like Heidi Baker, who would rather live and die among the poorest of the earth, than receive the rewards and accolades of her past sacrifices.

This new Radical Shift, this New Breed of Muslim leader, is surely symbolic of God's great plan to draw forth a pure Bride from the earth. We are not comparing ourselves to Muslims in anyway. What we must do, is live faith-filled passionate lives, sacrificing ourselves for Christ.

As nations are shaken, let us be molded into Living Sacrifices for His glory.
