Wal-Mart's Popularity May Not Shield Retailer from Pro-Family Backlash
Groups Urge Public to Protest Company's Pro-Homosexual Partnership by Shopping Elsewhere

By Ed Thomas, Allie Martin, and Jenni Parker
August 31, 2006

(AgapePress) - An Internet news report cites retailer Wal-Mart's self-assurance that customer traffic will be unaffected by its new alliance with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Conservative groups are hoping to shake the retailer's confidence by appealing to the family values of American consumers.

Reaction continue to come in from pro-family leaders concerned about Wal-Mart's new business and ideological partnership with the homosexual lobby. Cybercast News Service reported on criticism of the move by the Family Research Council(FRC), Americans for Truth and other groups. FRC president Tony Perkins connects the company's recent moves to the fact that the company has been "under assault from the far left" for some time.

Tony PerkinsPerkins calls Wal-Mart's decision to join the NGLCC "an apparent concession to the heat from the radical left." He says it is unfortunate that Wal-Mart has "joined forces with an organization whose mission opposes many of the values shared by rural and small-town America" when the company has traditionally prided itself in promoting the interests of average Americans.

While this apparent "surrendering to the radical homosexual lobby" appears to be a done deal, Perkins points out that it is not too late for pro-family citizens to express their disappointment with this recent decision by Wal-Mart executives. However, as Cybercast News reports, a corporate spokesman for the company claims Wal-Mart's popularity should trump any cultural controversy.

American Family Association (AFA) founder Don Wildmon says the Wal-Mart spokesman's statement shows that the company has forgotten the conservative base on which it was built. "In essence," he asserts, "translated, this is what the said: 'We're so big, nobody can hurt us. We can do whatever we want to do, and nobody's going to hurt us, because we're the largest retailer in the world.'"

But an executive with Wal-Mart says the retailer cares about its entire customer base and does not want to alienate anyone. Bob McAdam, vice president of corporate affairs for Wal-Mart, says the retailer has not abandoned is core values. "I don't think Wal-Mart has changed at all," says McAdam. "Wal-Mart has always been trying from day one to appeal to as many customers as possible." That, he asserts is part of the reason the company has grown rapidly over the years. "We believe we provide a good service to people -- we provide good prices," he says.

McAdam says Wal-Mart is not giving special treatment to homosexual-owned businesses, and that the company is only trying to treat everyone fairly and equally. But AFA contends that by joining the NGLCC, Wal-Mart is supporting efforts to give homosexuals special treatment. The NGLCC is a strong advocate for homosexual "marriage."

Dr. Don Wildmon Wildmon's group is one of a handful of organizations that are asking shoppers to contact the company's corporate offices and talk to local store managers, expressing objections to the partnership. The Tupelo, Mississippi-based AFA is also urging pro-family shoppers to buy specific items at stores other than Wal-Mart, in order to start taking small bites out of the corporate giant's presumed unassailable revenue stream.

The AFA website indicates that Wal-Mart's affiliation with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce involves giving the NGLCC $25,000 and agreeing to pay for two conferences scheduled by the NGLCC. The company will also give homosexual retailers and businesses preferred status, and will also be helping the commerce organization promote same-sex "marriage."

"Wal-Mart has blatantly thrown it into the face of the Christian conservative," Wildmon contends, and has, in effect, told the public that it is going to help promote the homosexual agenda. And, he says, the retailer has gone on to say to pro-family Americans, "We're so large, you can't do anything about it."

However, Wildmon does not believe Wal-Mart is too big to be affected by its pro-family customers. "If enough people decide that they can buy a gallon of milk for a nickel more down the road a half a mile, they'll think twice about their support for the homosexual lobby," he says.

Is there anywhere I can shop? I heard that Target is pro-homosexual, too.

Maybe Christians won't be able to buy, sell and trade BEFORE 6 6 6 (I have to space those numbers so they don't get ***ed out).

Praying that Wal*Mart will decide not to support this agenda.

I also just heard that Wal*Mart is going to remove "Christmas" from their language forever.... Well, 6 6 6 gets closer and closer!

Well, it's time for a boycott of WalMart. Maybe they are "too big for their britches". I think Sam Walton would stand on his head if he were alive. I can spend my money elsewhere. Or grow a garden. Maybe those of us who can should shop at farmers' markets for a while until WalMart gets the idea. We would likely save some money through shopping in that manner.

What is their agenda? "The Bible is located on isle 7 and perversion on isle 10"? God preserve us from the foolish.

I just shopped there the other night....needed stuff cheap.

It seems the only one anyone wants to offend any more is the Christian.

But then, I heard in the same on line church service that only 40% of those in the pulipits of America preach from a Biblical world view. So, that would depend which version of "Christian" we are talking about offending.

Take Namomi Judds program as another example. She had a man on there who was saying how The Lord helped him with "coming out" as a homosexual and dealing with being a homosexual, though many Christians will tell him he shouldn't live that lifestyle. Today, on her program, she had a young man who had been fighting in Iraq. When he was injured, a Muslim prayed over him to Allah. He said, "I knew who he meant." Well, as we know, Allah IS NOT the same as our God. The Muslim DID NOT mean the God of the Bible. He meant Allah. So here is the Americans fighting those who do their evil in the name of Allah, being prayed over in the name of Allah....and saying they meant God. And no correcitons were made that Allah and God are not the same and that if is faith in Jesus Christ and Him alone that we need.

Well, those who endure to the end will be saved. And we can see that number is dwindiling.... Just pray to be in that number.

I used to go for the boycotts real heavy. I suppose if we refuse the mark of the beast, that's what we would be doing. So, why not boycott for these reasons listed here?

I believe if this is a policy that Wal*Mart sticks to (the no mention of Christmas), we should make their Christmas a tough one. Why should I celebrate my Saviors birth at a store that doesn't even aknowledge it as a holiday?

Wal-Mart has Joined the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce - Truth!
....According to both Wal-Mart and the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), it is true that Wal-Mart has become a member of the NGLCC.
Although Wal-Mart has not taken an official position on the issue of same-sex marriage, the NGLCC is harshly critical of what it calls efforts by the "far right" to write discrimination into the constitution with efforts like the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would define marriage as between a man and a woman and applauded Congress for turning it down....

AFA: Online Queries Reveal Wal-Mart's Promotion of Homosexuality

By Ed Thomas and Jody Brown
October 24, 2006

(AgapePress) - A pro-family organization is warning that Wal-Mart's new alliance with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) is showing up in moves the corporation has made on its store shelves and in its employee benefit policies.

Following the retail giant's announcement in late August that it had aligned itself with the NGLCC, which is a pro-homosexual lobby group, pro-family leaders were sharply critical of Wal-Mart for joining what one called "an organization whose mission opposes many of the values shared by rural and small-town America." In addition to seeking out and receiving membership in the NGLCC, Wal-Mart awarded two large financial grants to the organization. (See NGLCC's announcement of Wal-Mart's involvement with their organization -- Caution: This is a pro-homosexual website) Many pro-family activists have accused the NGLCC of being a leading promoter of homosexual "marriage."

Now the American Family Association (AFA), one of the groups that has called on Christian consumers to spend their dollars elsewhere as a sign of their displeasure with Wal-Mart's pro-homosexual leanings, says the nation's largest retailer is not just working with the homosexual agenda of the NGLCC, it is promoting it. As proof, AFA offers up examples of books available for purchase through Wal-Mart's online bookstore -- books the pro-family group contends support or defend homosexuality.

Randy Sharp AFA's director of special projects says an online search -- using such terms as "gay," "lesbian," "transgender," "bisexual," and "gay marriage" -- yields surprising results for those visiting Walmart.com. "They'll come up with hundreds, sometimes even thousands of products relating to homosexuality [and promotion of] the agenda of the homosexual community," says Randy Sharp.

In an "Action Alert" to its supporters on Monday (October 23), AFA identifies several book titles available through Walmart.com that it says relate to the promotion of homosexual marriage -- among them are: What God Has Joined Together: The Christian Case for Gay Marriage; Legalizing Gay Marriage; Gay Marriage and Democracy: Equality for All; Defending Same-Sex Marriage; and Gay Marriage, Real Life: Ten Stories of Love and Family.

In addition, AFA states it found (via a search function at Walmart.com) more than 1,100 items for sale when the term "gay" was entered, almost 500 in response to the term "lesbian," and more than a hundred based on the terms "transgender," "bisexual," and "gay marriage." Sharp says the corporate giant's new link to support of the homosexual agenda is clear.

"There's no question that Wal-Mart is supporting homosexuality," says the AFA official. "They're supporting the homosexual agenda, whose number-one directive is to bring same-sex marriage to America."

Sharp also notes that Wal-Mart is now considering same-sex "partner" benefits, bolstering AFA's notion that the retailer has moved from neutrality to actively promoting the homosexual lifestyle. "Through their services, through their benefits, through their products -- all of these things lead to only one analysis," says the special projects director, "and that is that Wal-Mart is supportive of homosexual marriage in America."

AFA is urging consumers to register their complaints with both their local store manager and Wal-Mart president Lee Scott. "I think Wal-Mart shoppers would disagree with where their money is going to when they buy a product at Wal-Mart," says Sharp.

A cousin of mine's she works at Wal*Mart, and states that the reason why they say 'have a nice season', or 'happy holidays' is because everyone does not celebrate Christmas. So they have to say things to be more 'political correct' or else they will be fined for saying Christian sayings at Christmas when everyone whom come into the store is not Christians. The same reason why they say 'happy holidays' is the same reason why the extend the olive branch to the Homosexual community to say that their business is also welcomed at the store or else there will be huge fines and law suites stating that Wal*Mart didn't welcome their community to their stores to shop, and that their money is just as good as any 'straight' person. So its not a matter of the end of the world here, its just being more politically correct in going about certain things and advoiding huge lawsuits and fines for not serving certain customers.

Posted by: eagle4him

Who is going to "fine" the Wal Mart employees for not being 'politically correct'?

This is bolderdash!

Providing health care benefits for homosexual couples is a lot more than extending an olive branch.

Don't buy into the lies of the enemy. If you don't stand for something, then you'll fall for everything!

Oh, by the way, is your cousin a Christian? Maybe they should seek employment elsewhere.

Posted by: diamondcreates

Yes -my cousin a Christian. And for where she lives at for the pay the commute is close to her children day care center as well. She doesn't make the rules nor do I. I too had to experience the same thing at K-mart some years ago. I said to a lady at the check out line have a merry Christmas, the woman nearly spat in my face for saying that to her!!! I was written up, and the same woman complained each and ever time someone else - whom are Christians to stop saying merry Christmas to her. So instead we were told to say 'have a happy holiday'. So many people are quick to sue another company for something silly and basically off the rocker. There are so many homosexuals that are 'out' now than ever before. What are we suppose to do, pack up and go to Alaska where we think there are none? I don't personally care about another person's sexual preferrence especially since it has no barrings on me doing what I need to do for myself and for my family. If they are gay, fine be it - they have to answer to higher power - they don't have to answer to me, because I am not their judge in life of what they do and what they don't do. I just ask that they don't flaunt it out in public because that is not to be seen in the public since many are not for same sex relations. And Yes - I am a Christian as well. I have been born again since July 1990. Be bless family of God.

Posted by: guardianangel

My theory: Homosexuals are approximately 4% of the population. Not a major portion of the population.

So why are so many stores bending backwards to appease them? Because WE the Christian majority cater to our comforts. There are dollar stores all over the U.S. that we could shop at. So my children may not receive I-Pods for Christmas. Waah!

Would someone who knows these things please compile a list of "Christian Friendly" retailers. I will e-mail it to my friends and family. Our choices speak volumes. Ultimately, we CHOOSE not to take a stand when we spend our dollars at these retailers who made the choice to support debauchery.

I am not sure why you are so angry about this.

Walmart is trying to function in peace and not anger and offend others.

Whenever they do ANYTHING someone is waiting to sue them.

Who are we allowed to hate and rant and rave at?

Jesus went to bars and hung out with the 'bad' people, and the 'church' people hated him for it.

Love is WAY stronger than hate.

Anger only hurts us and makes Christians look crazy.

Rachel R

You said it perfect sister Rachel. I too don't understand the anger and why should what a retailer does to keep the peace, should be a bad thing? I truly don't understand, and I thought as Christians we are suppose to love one another no matter what that person's problem is? Isn't that what Christ taught us in the Bible? Isn't that what HE himself did, to spread HIS teachings not just to the straight, rich people, but to the poor, the sick and shut ins? Why aren't we using HIS teachings even to this day even with Homosexuals? By being in the presence of a homosexual is not going to change you into one, but to show that there is love in this world, for one another.
