Religious Revival in the U.S. -- Hope for a Nation? ... or a Threat?

By Jody Brown
September 14, 2006

(AgapePress) - Does Christianity pose a threat in America? Apparently it depends on who you ask: President Bush ... or Rosie O'Donnell.

President Bush says he senses a religious revival that could be America's Third Great Awakening. In an interview with Associated Press, National Review editor Rich Lowry says the president shared that view with him and other conservative journalists at a White House meeting on Tuesday.

The nation's First and Second Great Awakenings -- generally considered to have occurred before the American Revolution (1730s-1770s) and the Civil War (early 1800s) -- resulted in widespread conversions, a revival of Christian fervor, and social reforms. Now here at the beginning of the 21st century, according to Lowry, the president said the frequency with which people tell him they are praying for him makes him think "there's a Third Awakening with a cultural change" taking place.

"It feels to him as though there is an up-tick in religiosity out there that possibly might qualify as the Third Awakening," Lowry shares with AP, "but he left it to the journalists in the room to investigate this further and see whether there's any merit in the idea -- but it's clearly something he's been thinking about."

The president, says Lowry, "wasn't making a big deal of this" but pointed out the number people on rope lines who tell him that they are praying for him. Bush shared that he did not have people along the rope line requesting things like a "new bridge, or how about some more highway money." But instead, "They're coming to say, 'I'm coming to tell you, Mr. President, I'm praying for you.' It's pretty remarkable," Bush said.

Adds Lowry: "He jokingly said maybe it's just the only people praying for me in America are the ones who come to my event and shake my hand at a rope line."

Still, the journalist says Bush rejected "moral relativism" and insisted that cultures can and do change. "He got into this idea of the Awakening by analogizing from the Middle East to our own culture," he says, "and he was pointing out [that] our own culture has changed." And while such change might take time, it sometimes can happen quite quickly, he adds. "[President Bush] pointed out ... how the culture from the 50s to the 60s changed quite rapidly," Lowry notes.

Slap at Christianity
Now, contrast that with comments on Tuesday by comedienne Rosie O'Donnell during ABC's The View, when fellow co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck -- one day after the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on the U.S. -- referred to the threat posed by radical Islam. To which O'Donnell responded:

"Just one second -- radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America where we have separation of church and state."

O'Donnell's unprovoked slap at Christianity, which was met with applause by the studio audience, came on the heels of her opinion that on September 11, 2001, the United States was not attacked by a nation; yet "as a result of the attack and the killing of nearly 3,000 innocent people, we invaded two countries and killed innocent people in their countries."

Hasselbeck and the two other co-hosts -- Barbara Walters and Joy Behar -- appeared shocked by O'Donnell's comments labeling Christianity as a threat.

We know this Revival to be coming for it has been prophisied that it would come becuase we have a gatekeeper (prayer warrior) in the Whitehouse. I thank You that revival is soon to sweep this nation, and I thank You that Rosie O'Donell is one who will be swept into Your Kingdom.

So let it be prayed; so let it be done!

Dear Heavenly Father, we pray in agreement for a great awakening in individual lives that results in a great awakening in our country -- an awakening to the Lord through Jesus Christ.
Specifically now we pray for the Holy Spirit to work in the life of Rosie O'Donell.
Please give President Bush divine guidance in all his life.
In the glorious name of our Savior, Amen.

continue to pray for Rosie and also pray for

Donald Trump

Barbara Walters
Bill Geddie

who are currently in the middle of this feud between Rosie and Donald Trump

Many probably know about the Trump and Rosie feud and we should pray for both of them and those mentioned to come to know Jesus as well if they dont know him already.

O dear Lord, please lead Rosie O Donnel to the truth. Please lead her to know Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior. I ask that you would do the same for Donald Trump, Barbara Walters, and Bill Geddie. I ask of you desperately in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Rosie wasn't altogether wrong.

We have invaded a nation and many have died.

We aren't supposed to have any national religion, ours or anyone else's.

She has a fear of anyone bringing their faith into power.

That makes sense to me.

I do, too.
Lord, I come to you in prayer for Rosie.

I ask that she will be saved, healed and delivered.

Please hold her close and comfort her heart.

Please surround her with people to love and care for her and direct her to You.

Thank you so much for her wonderful gifts and talents.

In Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.

read in a news article online that

Rosie O'Donnell says she began treatment for depression after the Columbine school shootings and has said there's no shame in taking anti-depressants, adding "it saved my life."

Rosie O'Donnell is a pro-gay, lesbian liberal that is anti-war. I am not pro-war, but we are supposed to support our president, right or wrong! I don't know for sure if there ever were WMD's, or if they were moved. the facts are we are in a war now and we just can't pull out.

As far as a National Religion is concerned, that is not what was mentioned. Rosie was calling a faith-based President a "Radical Christian", which is in direct opposition to her humanism or lesbianism. If Bush is a "radical Christian" then so am I!!!!! It is radical because it goes against the pro-gay homosexual, liberal politics of her party!

She has a fear of anyone having faith. She and the media would like all Christians to second guess their beliefs and doubt what the Word says. Being a Christian means being bold enough to say that some stuff is stupid. Some stuff is immoral. Some stuff is just plain wrong. Period. Many Americans have a view that God made all of us and God made some gay. That is just plain wrong. The Bible clearly says the homosexuality is an abomination. To say that God made some people gay is to say that God is imperfect and contradicts His Word.

God is using this war for His purpose. Muslims who would never otherwise have an opportunity to hear the Gospel, are coming to Christ, thanks to those serving in the Middle East and have the boldness to share Jesus Without Fear. Being a Christian in the Middle East is grounds for execution. So for a Muslim to convert is a great act of bravery.
Many soldiers who were dyed-in-the-wool party animals and living immoral lives, have been saved and have gone on to share the Word with others.
War is ugly. War is awful. But there have been wars throughout history. I believe this one will reap the most souls for the Kingdom. Regardless of what Rosie, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon or any of those others say.

Although i do not support her lifestyle, I pray that God would give her peace and courage to speak out and that truth will be revealed in our nation. Bless her, oh God.

It is important that we as Christians dont show the world hate, as we are representing Christ to this generation.
