And I Will Lift My Hands...

This was the mantra Saturday for my family!!

We got hammered with about an inch of rain per hour Friday night/ Saturday morning. Our new home is in a flood zone, with the Little River running about 30 feet from my back door.
Friday night we started to get a thunderstorm and about 11 pm, my friend next door came over to tell us we were under a tornado warning. The temp was about 80 something; it actually got warmer after dinner. I told her that if the sirens went off that she and her family were welcome to come use our basement.
As soon as she went to her house, I heard the sirens and they came over. We sat downstairs until the warning expired at about midnight; then they went home and we went to bed. I was so nervous and worried and did not go to sleep until 1:30 am, after I had checked the river, checked the "drain" at the base of the driveway and was sure that the whole storm was a bust.
About 2:30 am or so, the storm whipped up furiously. Lightning just kept flashing continuously and thunder was a low roar, no break. I looked outr the bedroom window and could see the river was at the top of the banks It's usually a 12-14 foot drop from the level of my yard to the water line.
It was raining very hard and the water was coming from my neighbor's yard into mine, from our downspouts and rolling down the driveway. I opened my basement door to discover that the "drain" at the base of the driveway was no longer working (come to find out it's not a drain at all- it's a sinkhole!) The previous owners conveniently informed us AFTER the closing that when the river floods, we have 3 hours to block the basement door with a sheet of Plexiglass, caulk and sandbags!
I ran upstairs to tell my husband that the water was at the door now, we didn't have 3 hours!
He went to Wal Mart for caulk- they were out of sand. Kristen and I blocked the door with towels.
The water started coming in and we turned on the sump pump. The water goes out the window and seeps back in under the door or through the cracks in the concrete floor.
My husband came back from Wal*Mart and we caulked the door and used some bags of topsoil for sand bags. By 8 am, Lowe's was open and my husband bought 7 bags of sand. The water kept rising. I called my friend and cried. Then I called my sister-in-law and cried. I called my pastor and cried!
I went out to K Mart and bought more sand.
Pastor Todd came to the house with 12 bags (one for each disciple) of sand from the construction site near his home and then he, Wayne and the neighbor lady went for free sandbags from our town.
Wayne went to Tractor Supply and bought a gas-powered sump pump and pumped the water out of our driveway back into the river. By nightfall Saturday, the driveway and yard were pretty dry, the rain stopped and by Sunday morning the level of the river was down.

Thank You, Lord!
Our home was not ruined by the flood and we made it to church on time!!

I'll praise you in this storm!
