A moral athiest

I am an athiest. I have been for several years now, following a time when I realized that I do not approve of the God of the Bible. Afterwards, I looked into it, and found evidence that convinced me that no god, including the God of the Jews and Christians, exists.

I am, however, and upstanding and moral (though no more than any of you, I am sure) person, and believe that, though I do not follow your beliefs, I should have the same rights and respect that Christians have.

However, this is not the case. An athiest is not allowed to hold political office in most states. A recent survey discovered that parents would rather have thier children date a Hindu, a Muslim, or a Buddist than an athiest. Our belief system is the most oppressed, the most disliked.

I'm not one of those who would be opposed to the showing of the Ten Commandments in a court room. I'm not opposed to having 'In God We Trust' on our money, or 'One Nation, Under God,' in our anthem. I just wish to let people know: Athiests are people too. We have morals, and we are no better or worse than you.

I welcome all replies, and will be happy to discuss any issue, or let you know anything you wish about my beliefs. Feel free to discuss your own, as well. I am well aquainted with Christian texts, as well as those of other religions.

Thank you for reading, please: don't judge me by my beliefs, but by my words and actions.

Welcome John!

You are indeed welcome here!

I do ask that you restrict yourself to the Non-Believers forum but other than that you are welcome to ask your questions or make statements here, just realize that you will get answers from others on the board who do believe in God and realize you will be prayed for.

Please keep it civil. I will make sure that the others stay civil also.

Thank You

Hello,
I am sorry you have been judged as an atheist, for one who follows after Christ is commanded only to judge themselves. I think Madeline O'hara had alot to do with the attitude.

I will not argue with you on your beliefs, they are your own, yet I will pray for you, just as I pray for others.

And yes, those who don't believe there is a God can be fine and moral upstanding people.

What is interesting about the 10 commandments; scriptures states that they are not for the believer but for the non-believer (1 Tim 1:9). They are to serve as a moral compass.

Thank you for making yourself available on this site.

It very clear to me that your post is not an accident. I thank God that He sent you to us!!!

And for this reason, I have taken it up as an issue of priority, from this moment henceforth, to lift you up before the Throne of the Ancient of Days.

I have asked Him to make Himself evident in your life in an extraordinary manner. I know He will.

John, welcome to Annointed, a prayer board with devoted prayer-warriors that have a direct line to the Throne of I AM.

WELCOME AS WELL JOHN...

I DO HAVE A QUESTION. WHAT ARE YOUR BELIEFS IF I MAY ASK? IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THERE IS A GOD. DO YOU BLIEVE THAT THERE WAS JESUS THAT ONCE WALKED THIS EARTH? AND WHAT ABOUT THE HOLIDAYS? DO YOU CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS AND EASTER ? YOU WILL NOT BE LOOKED DOWN UPON HERE AT THIS FORUM. WE ARE A FAMILY NO MATTER WHAT YOUR PERSONAL RELIGION IS. BAPTIST, PENICOSTIAL, CATHOLIC, ETC. WE ALL RESPECT AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER BECAUSE WE ARE ALL BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF CHRIST.

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY -- HOPE TO READ MORE POSTS FROM YOU IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Jhann,
I agree with Brenda Magana. I also will pray that our Father will reveal Himself to you in a magnificent way. Welcome. We wish the best, and pray for its manifestation through God's intercession, for everyone. May you be blessed.
