Sin--everyone's and expert on this.

Most of us (myself included) think of the big ones--lying, cheating, stealing. Adultery, drunkenness, gambling.

There is a sin that leads to death--unforgiveable, like blaspheming the Holy Spirit, taking the Mark of the beast, or sinning away your day of grace, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

There different degrees of sin. Sin against man and sin against God. There is the sin of worry or of fear. There is sin of unbelief.

There is sin of comission and sin of omission.

We don't hear much about the sin of omission. What we've failed to do. This one is covered in the book of Luke 16:19-31. The story of the Rich man and Lazarus. the rich man died and went to hell, even though he claimed Abraham as his father. He went to hell not because of sins he wilfully did, but rather for the sins he committed by not doing something. He failed to give food, clothing and shelter to the poor beggar.

The Bible says that true religion is feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and sheltering the homeless. Being kind to each other is true religion. Showing love and mercy is true religion. (Yes, I know, I'm preaching to myself here also). Everything else is just for show.

As I read the Scriptures you related to, I saw no distinction between the richman's "sins he willfully did" and "sins he committed in not doing something". These are all "willful sins", as seen with the young rich man who approached Christ and wanted to buy Salvation, but when refused, he asked Christ how to obtain it and the rich man would not give away his belongings and sell stuff to give to the poor etc.

All sin, if check out Christ's "Sermon on the Mount", is willful, when we consider theres always the start of sin in thought before the action is demonstrated.

And I haven't seen where there are "degrees" of sin, since God declares all sin is equally wrong and leads to death- "Sin entered the world by one man and death by sin".

Yet, you are right about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, otherwise, it comes down to the condition of each person's heart- "unless a man be born again, he shall not see the Kingdom of Heaven", saught forgiveness and admittance of it, plus accepting Christ as Lord and Savior, is what counts. Why?

With the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, He will prick our spirit when we quench or grieve Him, thus, God's True Children, while may sin, will be bothered by having sinned.

Many people I've known thru the years, have claimed to be Christians, but are not when have asked them specific questions. Thus, we can have a "head knowledge" and therefore acknowledge God as our Father, but if not have Salvation from God, thru Christ and by the enlightenmet of the Holy Spirit, we won't be in Heaven.

A true Child of God can sin and still go to Heaven-I Cor. 3:10-15. They may lose treasures- "rewards", but still go to Heaven. Thus, with the richman, it is quite clear, these or this sin, he did not do, did not get him into Hell, but the "Fruit" he bore, shows the "root" of his heart, where he stood, as with that other rich man Jesus dealt with in person, but rejected Him.

Jesus declared- its harder for a rich man to enter Heaven, than for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle. Very astute observation, for while a rich man is alive, how many are willing to do as Christ told this one, to belong to God? For them to lay down thier lives for others, a sacrifice? Not many, if but a few.

The point is, the position of a person's heart is what is being shown in your example and who is influencing it- satan. After the richman in Christ's story reached Hell, only then did he change his heart, but then, as seen it was too late. God and Christ both declare, those who seek treasures on earth shall recieve them while here, but thats it. No treasures in the after life.

Forgive me, but the Bible says nothing about- "true religion is". The Bible speaks only of "God's Word" given to man, not any religion. Religion is man's conception of God's Word since this form of relating to God's Guidelines for life has been called that.

God speaks of "false doctrines", which can be called- "false religions" as well. But in Truth, God's Word is a way of life to be lived daily thruout our whole lives, not a religion to be followed weekly or however they have changed the standards.

From what I have read of God's Word concerning the sins of comission and sins of ommission, whats the difference? They are all equally evil and wrong in God's eyes. What God expects of us in His "Great Commission", is to be speaking all Truths of God, not just this part or that part, but all of It. For what good is sharing only a part, to leave people unable to understand what further God tells us to continue growing in Him and sinning less, if we only choose prts to speak of.

God Bless!!

Eagle4him may be referring to this translation...

KJV: Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

WES: 1:27 The only true religion in the sight of God, is this, to visit - With counsel, comfort, and relief. The fatherless and widows - Those who need it most. In their affliction - In their most helpless and hopeless state. And to keep himself unspotted from the world - From the maxims, tempers, and customs of it. But this cannot be done, till we have given our hearts to God, and love our neighbour as ourselves.

Grace to You!

cc,
Read Ezekiel 8 then tell me if you truly believe that all sin is the same. I mean abominations, greater abominations, and then greater abominations than these.

All sin is not the same. There is a sin that leads to permanent death--in the lake of fire. for blaspheming the HolySpirit, taking the mark of the beast, or sinning away your day of grace. Then there are sins that do not lead to permanent spirutual death, and can be forgiven by repentance.

Very interesting, but, a True Child of God, with the Holy Spirit dwelling within them, will never be involved with "abominations". Why? Those, if look at what "abominations" means, are those sins such as witches, sorcerers, nechromancers, astrologers and more do. This is related to being in direct "connection with familiar spirits", of which are satan and his demons.

The Holy Spirit will always make it quite clear to God's Child when they start doing that, and will prick thier heart to turn away from it and reject it.

As God declares, a True child of God can neither partake of both the table of satan and of Christ together, nor the Cup of Christ and cup of devils together. God also declares, a True Child of God can neither live according to God and according to the world, as each directly contradicts the other.

If do such things, it either grieves or quenches the Holy Spirit. When this happens, the True Child of God experiences mixed feelings or guilt etc and will come to realize what they are doing is wrong.

But, as for all sin, for what God's Children will generally be tempted to do are equal. Besides, how will a True Child of God be able to blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, with the holy Spirit dwelling within them, guiding and leading them? They won't.

Oh, and just for added interest here, consider these other examples- story of King Saul- Old Test fame- (chosen by God, yet turned away from God, knowing the Truth, yet rejecting it, eventually died young and not listed with Old Test Patriarchs of God).

Also consider God speaks of some of His Children who- "in the latter days, some shall depart from the faith". Know that you cannot fall away from a "faith" if do not already belong to it.

Therefore, by choice, a Child of God can choose to leave God in favor of living according to the world. I know of quite a few Christians back where I'd lived before, who got drawn from God, into crystal gazing, true astrology, using witchcraft and more, thinking its expanding thier relationship and service with God. What foolish beliefs my friend.

If continue, according to God's Word, if goes long enough and they don't heed God's warnings, they will die in thier sin, with God having turned them over to satan.

Special note about the word- "religion" used in God's Word- There are 5 references I found where the word "religion" is used to reference God's Word- Acts 26:5, Gala. 1:13, 1:14, James 1:26,27.

Please note tho, in the first 3, Paul speaks to the people, sharing his view, as a past Roman, viewed "Jewish religion".

But, in the James 1:26,27 Scriptures, look at the wording used- v 26- "If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but decieveth his own heart, this man's religion is in vain. " 27- "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in thier affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world".

These are all examples of where God's chosen first Leadership, were speaking to others who called Jewish Law and God's Word, a religion.

But, you'll not ever find where God had ever lead them to speak of His Law- covenant, New or Old, as a "religion", unprovoked, except by others clear referencing of It as such, to those Leaders first, that they responded in like manner for easier clarification of those spoken to.

God Bless!!

So true, everyone.

Jesus didn't come as a religious leader.

He came as a King.

He was never a part of the religious system.

His message wasn't about religion, it was, "The Kingdom of heaven is here.".

He drove the religious crazy because he wouldn't conform to their patterns.

He came to help sinners get back their rights as Kings.

Rachel R-

Amen to those who can say it so plain, yet short and sweet.

As a reminder too tho- Lets keep this in context when refering to Ezekiel, we should remember, these are prophecies of what will be going on during the "tribulation Period".

A time when the anti-christ will be ruling and convincing the world to follow his commands, direction, etc. God speaks many times of the defiling and desolation of His Temple at Jerusalem by the anti-christ and his incredible abominable acts against God there in the Temple. But know that because God's vision to Ezekiel shows this beginning in God's Temple, it has not been rebuilt even as yet at this time, thus these prophecies are for later on yet).

So, we really cannot relate those events to those going on now, even tho I'm sure they are, but not to the extent revealed in Ezekiel. But that time will come.

Jesus declared, all evil will get worse during these "last days" till it reaches a level as it was in Noah's Day, so, it has a ways to go, even before Ezekiels' prophecy can come true.

God Bless!!
