Dear brothers and sisters,

We suggest you all to pray for our 23 Korean brothers and sisters who were kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan:

Mon Jul 23, 1:47 PM ET

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AFP) - Taliban militants on Monday extended the deadline for their South Korean hostages by another 24 hours, but told the government to put them in direct contact with Korean negotiators.

"We've extended the deadline by another 24 hours" until 1430 GMT Tuesday, Taliban spokesman Yousuf Ahmadi told AFP by telephone from an undisclosed location, minutes after the previous limit expired.

The rebels have threatened to kill the South Koreans unless 23 Taliban prisoners held by Afghan authorities are released and Seoul withdraws its 200 soldiers from war-battered Afghanistan.

South Korea has dispatched a crisis team, led by Vice Foreign Minister Cho Jung-pyo, to Kabul and has repeatedly stressed that it will pull out its troops who are serving with a US-led coalition by year's end as planned.

"We tell the Kabul administration to put us in direct contact with the South Korean delegation," Ahmadi added.

"The Kabul administration is not honest in the talks. The talks which have taken place so far have not had any result," the rebel spokesman said.

The new deadline came shortly after the Taliban said that a German hostage and four Afghan colleagues, whom they had earlier said were executed, were still alive.

The militant group demanded the release of 10 Taliban prisoners in return for freeing the German and Afghan captives.

They threaten to execute them on July 24 at 10:30am EST.

Please pass it on and pray.

"Dear Father, we lift up our brothers and sisters to you in Jesus' name, please protect them, and may you change the minds of the hostage-takers. May your name be glorified. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Lord of life, I lift up Your children that are being held in Afghanistan to You in prayer.

Secure their release by the power in Your Name.

May their kidnappers treat them with love and mercy.

Protect them from any form of harm and grant that they will be re-united with their families soon.

In the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen

I stand in agreement with the prayers of these saints and add my own also.

Heavenly Father, Almighty God of all creation, hallowed be Your name. Thank You Lord for the precious gift of this day and the many blessings You fill it with, both seen and unseen. I come to You in prayer in faith and believing in Your limitless power and wisdom over all things in heaven and on earth to ask for Your divine intervention for the 23 Koreans kidnapped in Afghanistan. Send Your heavenly angels and give them charge over these loved ones, to keep them safe from all harm. Supernaturally render all the weapons and ammunition of the terrorists impotent and harmless. Confuse the thoughts of these terrorists who would do harm to any of Your loved ones, so as to deny them any success of their evil plans. Shine Your righteous light on all the agents of the conspirators and make the identities of these cowards known to all.

Send You Holy Spirit to plague the sleep of the captors with dreams of conviction and shame that will lead to the safe release of their hostages. Send Your heavenly angels to minister to the terrorists and fill their minds and waking thoughts with visions that will open their eyes and hearts to the error of their misguided faith in their false god, and lead them to seek Your forgiveness and accept the gift of salvation. Touch their hearts and replace their hatred and anger with Your heavenly love and grace. We know from Your Word, that it is not Your will that any should perish, but that all should receive salvation through the blood of the cross of Christ Jesus and I add my voice to those of all Your saints who ask that Your will be done. I claim the promise and victory of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus over all that I've asked and I pray these things in His precious holy name. Amen and amen

Dear all,

The body of one of the hostages, Rev. Bae Hyung-kyu, aged 42, was found. He was shot 10 times.

The remaining 22 South Korean hostages are alive, a Taliban spokesman and an Afghan police chief said Thursday, a day after the body of one captive was found riddled with bullets.

"They are safe and alive," Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, who claims to speak for the militants, told Reuters by telephone from an unknown location. "They [the Afghan government] have given us hope for a peaceful settlement of the issue."

General Ali Shah Ahmadzai, provincial police chief of Ghazni province, where the hostages are being held, also told Reuters that he believed the hostages were safe.

"I was awake all night and if the Taliban had killed any of them I would have known," he said. "No, they have not killed any of the hostages and we are trying to contact the Taliban for resumption of talks."

On Wednesday, the body of one of the male hostages was discovered in the Mushaki area of Qarabagh district in Ghazni province with 10 bullet holes in his head, chest and stomach.

South Korea's Foreign Ministry identified the victim as 42-year-old Bae Hyung-kyu, the chief of the Korean Foundation for World Aid, a non-governmental organization.

Earlier, Ahmadi said the hostage was shot and killed around 4 p.m. local time (7:30 a.m. ET) after negotiations to free the captives stalled. He also set a final deadline of Thursday at 1 a.m. (4:30 p.m. ET Wednesday), after which the remaining hostages, 18 women and four men, would be killed.

A police official said militants told him the hostage was sick and couldn't walk and was therefore shot.

The South Koreans were captured at gunpoint from a bus in Ghazni province on July 19. They were en route to Kandahar when their bus was hijacked about 160 kilometres from Kabul.

Unnamed Western officials said Wednesday that some of the remaining 22 hostages had been freed and taken to a U.S. base in Ghazni. The officials said they did not know how many had been freed, but South Korean news agency Yonhap put the number at eight.

Marajudin Pathan, the governor of Ghazni province, denied the reports and said the militants were still holding the remaining hostages.

"No one has been released, and there has not been any exchange," Pathan told the Associated Press. "They are still in Taliban custody."

He said authorities were in contact with the kidnappers to try to secure the Koreans' freedom. The militants gave a list of eight Taliban prisoners they want released in exchange for eight of the hostages, Pathan said.

The report of the death came after the passing of an earlier deadline, also announced by Ahmadi, which he said was set after the Afghan government failed to respond to the militants' demands.

It was reportedly the fourth deadline set by the Koreans' Taliban captors since they were abducted last week.

Afghan security forces have surrounded a region in Ghazni province where about 70 armed militants are thought to be holding the hostages. The Taliban have warned any use of force by government troops will put the hostages at risk.

The insurgents reportedly extended their previous deadline so they could negotiate directly with officials from the South Korean government.

South Korean officials have said they'll remove the contingent of military engineers and medics at the end of the year, as originally planned.

Though some of Ahmadi's statements turn out to be true, he also has made repeated false claims, calling into question the reliability of his information.

Conflicting reports over German reporter
Earlier Wednesday, the provincial police chief said he thought talks to free the Korean hostages had been on a positive track and said the new threat was a surprise.

"I don't know why they've suddenly changed their mind," Ali Shah Ahmadzai said. "My message to the Taliban is to use tolerance and be patient. This [killing hostages] is against the Afghan culture."

Meanwhile, there were conflicting reports Wednesday about whether a German journalist and two Afghan colleagues were kidnapped the day before in eastern Afghanistan.

An Afghan governor was quoted as saying that the three were released Wednesday after being abducted in Kunar province, but the German magazine Stern told Reuters that the reporter had contacted them and told them at no point were he or his colleagues taken hostage.

The fate of other foreign hostages is unclear. Two German engineers and five Afghans were kidnapped last Wednesday from southern Afghanistan. There were conflicting reports on whether one of the German hostages was killed.

A second hostage was killed yesterday:

=================================

By AMIR SHAH, Associated Press Writer

GHAZNI, Afghanistan - South Korea and relatives of 21 kidnapped Koreans appealed for U.S. help Tuesday, but Afghanistan said for the first time it will not release insurgent prisoners — the Taliban's key demand to free the captives.

Afghan police found the body of the second hostage slain since the Christian church group was seized nearly two weeks ago; the group's pastor was killed last week.

A purported Taliban spokesman, meanwhile, said some of the prisoners the militants want released are held at the U.S. base at Bagram — and the Al-Jazeera television network broadcast a video Tuesday reportedly of another Taliban captive, a German engineer.

The Taliban said more Koreans will die if its demands are not met by midday Wednesday. The militants have extended several previous deadlines without consequences, but killed 29-year-old Shim Sung-min on Monday after a deadline passed. His body, with a gunshot wound to the head, was found along a road in Andar district.

They were two of 23 South Koreans — 16 women and seven men — kidnapped while riding a bus July 19 on the Kabul-Kandahar highway. They are the largest group of foreign hostages taken in Afghanistan since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion that drove the Taliban from power.

In South Korea, relatives and a civic group pleaded for more U.S. involvement, and the president's office used more diplomatic language to prod the Americans.

"The government is well aware of how the international community deals with these kinds of abduction cases," the president's office said, an apparent reference to the U.S. policy of not negotiating with terrorists. "But it also believes that it would be worthwhile to use flexibility in the cause of saving the precious lives of those still in captivity."

The civic group People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy questioned what South Korea had earned for helping Washington combat terrorism. Seoul has sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq.

State Department spokesman Tom Casey said there is regular contact between U.S. and South Korean officials on the standoff, but would not comment on specifics.

President Hamid Karzai's spokesman said officials were doing "everything we can" to secure the hostages' release, but that freeing militant prisoners was not an option.

"As a principle, we shouldn't encourage kidnapping by accepting their demands," said Humayun Hamidzada.

In March, Karzai authorized freeing five captive Taliban fighters for the release of an Italian reporter, but called the trade a one-time deal. He was roundly criticized by the United States and western nations for the move.

Qari Yousef Ahmadi, a purported Taliban spokesman, said eight prisoners must be released by midday Wednesday, and that some were held by the U.S. at Bagram.

"If the Kabul government does not release the Taliban prisoners, then we will kill after 12 o'clock," Ahmadi said. "It might be a man or a woman ... It might be one. It might be two, four. It might be all of them."

In South Korea, the slain hostage's father, Shim Jin-pyo, described his son as "chivalrous and warmhearted," and wondered how the Taliban "could perpetrate this horrible thing."

Kim Jung-ja, the mother of another hostage, said the U.S. should "give more active support to save the 21 innocent lives."

In the minute-long video shown Tuesday on Al-Jazeera, a stocky man with graying hair stood in a rugged mountainous area surrounded by masked Taliban fighters, some of them carrying automatic rifles and RPG launchers.

The man seemed to be speaking to a camera but his voice was inaudible in the aired footage. Al-Jazeera said he appealed to the German government and the U.S. to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. The video also showed four Afghans whom it said were kidnapped with the German.

The broadcaster did not say how it obtained the video.

Two German engineers were reported kidnapped earlier this month by the Taliban. One of them, Ruediger Diedrich, 43, died in captivity under unclear circumstances. His body has been flown back to Germany for an autopsy. German media have identified the second man only as Rudolf B.

German media reported that the video included a demand for the release of 12 Taliban fighters in exchange for the German and four Afghans. But Al-Jazeera spokesman Ayman Gaballah told The Associated Press there was no specific mention of releasing 12 Taliban prisoners, only a call for compliance with Taliban demands.

Earlier media reports in Afghanistan said the Taliban have demanded that 10 prisoners be released, and Germany withdraw, in exchange for the hostages' freedom.

In Germany, foreign ministry spokesman Martin Jaeger criticized the release of the video and said the ministry was pressing efforts to secure the hostage's release.

Germany has 2,700 soldiers serving with the NATO-led force in Afghanistan.

___

Associated Press reporters Noor Khan in Kandahar, Rahim Faiez in Kabul, Salah Nasrawi in Cairo, and Burt Herman and Jae-soon Chang in Seoul, South Korea, contributed to this report.

=======================================

A new deadline was reportedly set, and this time it is for real. There are 3 more male hostages remaining, and it is possible that the Afghan government is betting the Taliban will not kill the remaining 18 female hostages.

Please pray fervently.
Thank you.

Two South Korean Christians Killed by Taliban
Reuters News Agency/VOM Sources
The Taliban killed two of the 23 Korean Christian hostages they had been holding since last week. Reuters News Agency reported kidnappers threaten to kill more of their 21 captives if the Afghanistan government fails to free rebel prisoners by 7:30 a.m. GMT on Wednesday. The 23, including 18 women, belong to the "Saemmul Church" in Bundang, a city outside Seoul, South Korea's capital. They were working at Korean Action, an aid organization in Kandahar. Most of the Koreans are in their 20s and 30s, and include nurses and English teachers. Killed on July 25, Bae Hyung-kyu (42), was a pastor and the leader of the group. Shim Sung-min (29), killed on July 31, was a former IT firm employee and planned to go to graduate school.
Please pray for a peaceful resolution to this crisis. Pray for comfort for the families of the two Christians killed. Pray for the safety of the hostages and pray for their loved ones at home in South Korea.

They can only boast for a season.

1. Fret not thyself because of evil doers, neither be thou envious against the worker of iniquity. 2. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

That scripture comes from Psalms 37

That is a good chapter, one of the best!

God speed unto his!

Psalms 37:7-17

7. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prosperteth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

9. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

10. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance or peace.

12. The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

13. The Lord shall laugh at him:for he seeth his that his day is coming.

14. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent thier bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

15. Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

16. For a little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

17. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous.

18. The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be forever.

19. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

20. But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

21. The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy and giveth.

22. For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

23. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

24. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

25. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

26. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

27. Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.

28. For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

29. The righteous shall enherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

30. The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his toungue talketh of judgement.

31. The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

32. The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

33. The Lord will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

34. Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

35. I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

36. Yet he passed away, and lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

38. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

39. But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

40. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

Taliban says no plans to kill hostages before meeting with Korean delegation

The Associated Press
Friday, August 10, 2007
GHAZNI, Afghanistan: The Taliban said Friday it would not kill any of the 21 remaining South Korean hostages it is holding until planned face-to-face meetings have been held with a delegation from the East Asian country.

The captors have repeatedly threatened to kill more of the captives they seized on July 19 if their demands are not met, though negotiations appear to have bogged down in recent days.

Taliban and South Korean officials have agreed they want to meet for talks to break the deadlock, but have not been able to agree on a location that both sides consider safe.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi said negotiations on a location were continuing by phone.

"Until we sit for face-to-face negotiations with the Koreans, we have no plans to kill any Korean hostages," Ahmadi said.

The South Korean government issued guidelines for its aid organizations saying they must leave Afghanistan by the end of the month for safety reasons, a South Korean Embassy official said on condition of anonymity due to policy.

Last month, the government banned its citizens from traveling to Afghanistan.

Authorities will decide whether they can return to the country after "the situation settles down," the official added.

Ahmadi said the departure of South Korean aid workers would move forward negotiations with the Taliban.

"The pulling out of Korean aid workers will have an effect on our negotiation process because pulling out of Koreans from Afghanistan is part of our demand. It will have a positive effect," he said, without elaborating.

In South Korea, a spokesman for the hostages' families said the mothers of several hostages — five women and a translator — will travel to the emirate of Dubai next week to seek help from the Arab world in securing their loved ones' release.

"The reason why we are sending women, especially mothers, to Dubai is that Islamic culture has more sympathy for women," said the spokesman, Cha Sung-min.

The 23 South Koreans were abducted July 19 in the Qarabagh district of Ghazni province as they traveled by bus from Kabul to the southern city of Kandahar. Two of the captives have been executed by the Taliban.

There has not been a breakthrough in negotiations more than three weeks into the hostage ordeal. Afghan authorities say talks with the Taliban, who have demanded the release of Taliban prisoners, are the best way to resolve the problem.

The captives — volunteers from a church group who planned to do health work in Afghanistan — include 16 women and five men.

Father! Continue to stay the hand of evil and free these men and women! Give them hope, strength, comfort and peace as they are held and give their families peace over their fate. Make a way of escape and make sure they know that though they walk through the valley of the shadow of death that they know beyond all sense that You walk with them and are holding them up in Your arms, protecting them and bringing them out of bondage! Thank You Jesus! AMEN!

Daniel 6: 26-27
I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for He is the living God, and steadfast for ever, and His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and His dominion shall be even unto the end.

He delivereth and rescueth, and He worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

Princes and all judges of the earth;
Both young men and maidens;

Freed S Korean hostages 'sorry'

South Korea has denied paying a ransom to secure the release
Nineteen South Korean Christian aid workers freed by the Taleban after six weeks in captivity have apologised to the nation for the trouble they caused.
The former hostages, who had travelled to Afghanistan against government advice, said they owed their compatriots an enormous debt.

The group arrived home on Sunday. Two of the original 23 hostages were murdered and another two freed earlier.

South Korea's government denies reports it paid a ransom for their release.

Carrying portraits of their two colleagues executed by the Taleban, the former hostages looked pale and tired as they faced the waiting wall of television cameras upon their arrival at South Korea' s Incheon airport.

"We apologise to the people for causing trouble and thank everyone who helped us return home safely," one of the 19, Yu Kyeong-Sik, said.

"We owe the country and the people a great debt."

He cried as he paid homage to their two slain colleagues, saying "we will live our lives for them".

Mr Yu said that the 19 only heard of the deaths of their colleagues when they were released earlier this week.

Their body language in the arrivals hall - contrite bows and a carefully prepared statement - showed an awareness of the criticism they are facing at home, says the BBC's John Sudworth in Seoul.

The former hostages were reunited with family members as they had medical checks after leaving the airport.

Their release was negotiated by South Korean officials, who had face-to-face meetings with the Taleban this week.

Heightened fears

Ransom allegations have been made by a number of Afghan officials.

A Taleban representative in Ghazni province, where the hostages were held, told the BBC the South Korean government paid $20m (£10m) but two other Taleban sources told the BBC no ransom was paid.

There are strong indications that money was paid, correspondents say, although the sum is likely to have been considerably lower - Afghan officials have said a sum slightly under $1m (£500,000) was handed over.

South Korea has denied the claims.

Seoul said it agreed to pull its troops out of Afghanistan as scheduled by the end of the year, and stop missionaries travelling to Afghanistan.

The BBC's Alastair Leithead, in Kabul, says the Taleban appear to have succeeded in this case - getting away with a kidnap and having their demands met.

There are now heightened fears that more kidnappings will follow, our correspondent says.

Their church has insisted the 23 Christians were doing aid work and were not involved in missionary activities.
