Is Good Will Industries Run By The Mormon Church?

Howdy!

Our church has an outreach program we sponsor called IMPACT ministries. We receive donated items which we give to families in need in the community. As we sometimes get too much or the amount of clients is slow, we sometimes have to weed out and purge our shelves and clothing racks. In the past we have given the items to either Salvation Army or Good Will. Our local Good Will works in conjunction with the Christian County Family Resource Center (FRC) to distribute clothing, shoes and coats to families in need through the public school system.
When you donate to Good Will, you designate your donation to be credited to the FRC and then the FRC gets a credit for the poundage of clothing or whatever has been donated. Then the schools identify needy families, either through the free lunch program Title I participation or a family's application to receive FRC resources. The school gives the family a voucher and they can go to Good Will and get clothing or household items free of charge.

I have asked our church IMPACT person if I could take the excess items we have to Good Will so that the FRC can benefit. Someone told the IMPACT ministry coordinator that the Mormon Church runs Good Will and receives monies from the sale of the items we all donate. Now the IMPACT coordinator does not want to give anything to Good Will and has asked me if I knew about the Mormon Church owning Good Will.
I have looked online and found no connection. I was wondering if you know anything about it. The person who made the statement is originally from Idaho and I was thinking maybe the Good Will out there has a strong Mormon presence simply because there is a large Mormon population there. We have tons of Mennonites here and many shop at Good Will, but I know the Good Will is not run by the Mennonite Church.

Thanks.

Hey Sis in Christ-

Well, I don't know about your state, but in ours, the "Good Will" outfits here are mostly run by the Catholic Charities or the Salvation Army or Vets Admin thru a Legion. All depends on town or city your at and who was asked to start and back it. But as said, here, its mostly those I mentioned.

I would suggest it probably depends on who is asked or had offered to do so in whatever towns or cities in each State. A particular very popular group in our area used to also back the lottery ticket thing, hosted in bars. But after so much trouble legally, they backed out. Now its done by a less popular outfit, but now in convience store- gas station combos here.

So, with that kind of diversity for taking on such things, I would suggest checking it out locally in your main area for who really does with your particular one. As Mormons could be, depending upon how popular they are in your area. I guess you won't know for sure until you start checking into it. The web probably won't help, you'll probably just have to go ask, thats all.

God Bless!!

Thanks, Brian. Our local Good Will doesn't seem to be affiliated with any one particular denomination. They walk the walk when it comes to Christianity, that is why I love shopping there! The Mennonites (they look like Amish) who shop there are very nice as well. There is no outward pushing of literature or church selling. But in conversations I have had with the workers there, they are faithful followers of Jesus. The local Catholic church has a Saint Vincent de Paul thrift store and I shop there too! I also hit the Salvation Army stores in town.

ok yea, thats a possibilitiy too. Just never thought of a group of Churches doing it, as said about here, it's mostly singular outfits. But, they are all very big outfits whoever seems to do it here.

Like the big one in St. Cloud, thats run by the Catholic Church, but under the Dept of Charities, yet College people operate it. And thats a medium sized one compared to around the Twin Cities. (At least some college people were there a time or two when delivered stuff there).

But it wouldn't supprise me if maybe in areas where Mormons are quite popular they could be involved.

I know when involved with a clothing ministry years ago, we went all over the State driving vans and trucks with topers full of clothes to alot of different places, from Good Will, to Salvation Army Stores, Legion supply stores and distribution drop offs, etc, that must have sent the clothes out of State somewheres else.

After helping another Church, the Pastor asked if I knew where they could send some clothes to help people. A woman in my old home Church of that time did that. So, I said yes. The Lord imressed her to elect me as a pick up and delivery driver to get clothes to her and then drive a vehicle with her bunch, to get them where her contacts said a need was hehe.

Oh, sorry tho, until now, I didn't notice you had posted in Pastor's section. Sorry I intruded. My first responce came from seeing it on the Home Page.

God Bless!!
