Who is the thief in John 10:10?

I was taught in church that the thief is the devil. The other day I read John 9, 10 and 11 and have a different outlook.
Can someone help me with this?

For example, what parts make you wonder why the reference in John 10:10 does not refer to the devil?
One thought to consider for this- God declares several times, our battle is not of the flesh, but of the spirit.
While yes, we do see thieves and robbers here in people on earth. Bt, who really is influencing them to do such things? Principalities and powers of darkness. Satan and his fallen demon followers.
Satan is called the great deciever- (steal). He is called a roaring lion looking to whoever he may devour- (kill), he can even imitate an Angel of Light- (lead to destruction). Oh, and God declares Satan is the author of death, While He- God, the author of life.
Thats my thougts, but would like to know what makes you question who this (thief) is.

Yes the devil is ultimately behind all of this, but what Jesus was talking about in John 10:1 is any shepherd who does not enter by the door is the thief and robber.
Jesus said that those shepherds that came before Him were thiefs and robbers v 8., and that the sheep did not hear their voice.
v. 12 the hired hand, the one that does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and abandons the sheep. v. 13, the hired hand, the robber, the thief, the shepherd that did not enter through the door, Jesus, abandons the flock and the wolf, the devil snatches and scatters them.

Well, I'd have to disagree Christ is speaking of "sheperds" specifically, His exact Words are- "He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber".
In all honesty, this could mean anyone demonstrating such decietful actions. Remember, we've had false ministers, christs etc come and go, Jim Jones claimed to be christ-in-carnate, yet he was not ordained as a minister. Ba'ahaula, was considered as christ-in-carnate, yet he was not ordained. Charles Manson was the same as the other two, yet not ordained.
Wether ordained or not made no difference, when listen to thier off the wall distortions of God's Word. Yet many people believed in them and followed them, but... not Christians, only unsaved did. (Except for Ba'ahaula) of which I know several people I still work with who are supposed to be teachers of his doctrine, yet are ill equiped so far to explain the discrepancies in his teachings to God's Word literally spoken.
And I have shared with them, they cannot be true children of God and following such false doctrines, as both contradict each other. This is why God's True children will know and realize God's Truth, yet if distracted from God enough Satan has an ability to influence them, they can momentarily accept some false things when quench the Spirit.
Yes, because of how they speak doctrine, these false leaders may come across as ministers of God, but... a Child of God who knows God's Word well enough and takes It literally for what It says It means, they will notice the deceptions at least to an extent to see its false.
After having dealt with this small group of Ba'ahaula followers for 6 months or better, I know two for sure are saved and reborn of oh, considerable years, yet never been adiment readers and studiers of God's Word to be as strong as should've been to see that deception. Thus, as God declares to be weary of those like waves of the sea following false doctrines, these have fallen to that situation.
But, keep in mind, you, as a True child of God, represent God having the Holy Spirit dwelling within you, therefore, Satan, the great imitator of God, is thus the same, represented by the false leaders he sends out.
And as Rev. shows of that 2nd beast, these false ministers or leaders, also "so to speak", "have horns as a lamb, but spake as a Dragon"- (false doctrine). So really, your seeing Satan in or as them, when see them out there spreading those false doctrines to try and decieve even the very elect, because like you to God, they are to Satan.
