The power of meaningful prayer

Some of my thoughts on what I believe the real purpose of prayer is in our lives and the power in daily meaningful prayers.

The design & purpose of prayer in our lives has far more to do with than trying to convince God to give us things we think we’re in need of. The real purpose of prayer in bringing our petitions to Him has to do with coming to align our hearts and will with His and this is a process that cannot be accomplished with just drive by casual prayers.

You will find that as you take the time to go before him and pour out your heart in meaningful prayer on a daily basis that will tend to alter your hearts till those hearts are in fine tune with the Lord. Then we’ll find that our strength for lives challenges and inspiration in handling them will be renewed daily through the gift of His presence to a greater degree than we have known before and our broken, hurting places can begin to be filled and restored and we will receive little promptings and impressions about our lives and our problems. We may even begin to see things in a new light than we ever considered before.

We may start out learning to pray for our own needs, but God then changes the focus of our hearts. For we start seeing other people more the way He does and we began to have the desire to pray for them more fervently as well as ourselves. For us to become more like Christ and to come to know His will for us, it requires precious time every day just to sit at His feet in prayer.

The greater purpose in prayer I believe isn't to change God's mind as much as it is to change the heart and mind of the person who prays.

When you pass through the waters, I will be
with you; and when you pass through the
rivers, they will not sweep over you. When
you walk through the fire, you will not be
burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the LORD, your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Saviour-
Isaiah 43:2-3
