Our own personal “Red Seas”/He will provide a way

I wanted to give a word of encouragement today regarding opposition; the kind that so often comes after an enlightened decision has been made, or after a moment of personal revelation and conviction has spoken peace to the heart. It is a reality in mortality that so often after great spiritual moments, when you’re trying and have been feeling closer to God there can come adversity, opposition, and darkness. It can be confusing. But the adversary so often tries either to keep us from receiving revelation or to make us doubt the light we have received. I have seen it in my own life and members of my family. Don’t lose confidence!

Paul said to those who thought a new testimony, a personal conversion, or a spiritual experience would put them beyond trouble, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise” (Heb. 10:35–36).

It can get tough as you know! But don’t draw back. Don’t panic and retreat. Don’t lose your confidence. Don’t give up when the pressure mounts. Stay the course!

Moses’ had a great challenge before him, how to get himself and the children of Israel out of this horrible predicament they were in. There were chariots behind them, sand dunes on every side, and a lot of water immediately ahead. He needed information all right—what to do—but it wasn’t a casual thing he was asking. In this case it was literally a matter of life and death.

Your “Red Seas” will open to the honest and sincere seeker of revelation it is my testimony. The adversary does have power to hedge up the way, to marshal forces and dog our escape right to the water’s edge, but he cannot conquer if we will it otherwise.

Seek with real intent. Be persistent for answers. So many times in the process of receiving revelation about our lives, the adversary uses fear destructively, because it has a tendency to paralyze us from praying and from acting and doing anything positive. That is exactly what happened to the children of Israel at the edge of the Red Sea. The record says, “And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid.” It is so important right then in our lives to hold fast to the previous light we’ve received.

What about that which had already happened? What about the miracles that got them there? How soon we can forget. I remember as a kid watching the movie “The Ten Commandments,” I thought, “oh how stupid of the children of Israel to always be doubting every step of the way.” I know now it ain’t easy. Our faith is so often tested as we fight through doubts and second thoughts. Some days we will be miraculously led out of Egypt—seemingly free, seemingly on our way—only to come to yet another confrontation, like all that water lying before us. I think it is so important – at those times we must resist the temptation to panic and to give up.

“And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, the Lord will fight for you” (Ex. 14:13–14).

Again, that is another important lesson of the spirit of revelation. After you have gotten the message, after you have paid the price to feel His love and hear the word of the Lord, go forward. Don’t fear, don’t vacillate, or rather when you do fear, try to ignore it best you can and put your focus and trust on the Lord and push forward. I used to sometimes do this mental exercise when I was feeling fearful and worried. I would picture myself walking on a high ledge and I knew it was scary and a long ways down, but I focused on putting one foot forward at a time and looking straight ahead while envisioning the face of the Savior before me.

He will provide a way! The miracle of the crossing of the Red Sea we can apply to our own lives is that if God has told you something is right, if something is indeed true for you, He will provide the way for you to accomplish it.

I also know that the adversary and his calculating little demons will try to oppose the spirit in our lives and anything good. He will try to interfere in our prayers and any good and right feelings we may have and to try to darken them after the fact. But trust in your Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Don’t lose your confidence in their power to deliver you.
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise” (Heb. 10:35–36).

As my dad used to tell me, "Hang in there Baby."

Great message, Sister Bonnie...As I read your post I was also reminded of how the people were about to cross over the Jordan...God caused the waters to back up in a heap...but they had to take that step of faith.

Yes, He will make a way when the way seems impossible...only believe.

Thanks for sharing!
