Vista and compatible printer or scanner

Does anyone out there have Vista? How do I connect my Lexmark printer (PrintTrio)? Is there a way? When I went into scanners and cameras, I could only chose from two brands, and Lexmark was not one of the brands. Under printers it is saying the some # writer is ready. Why would it say this printer is ready, when I don't even own it? Do I have to get a specific printer to go with my computer? I am really confused right now. . . I wish I knew what I was doing. I want to scan something in. . . .

Also, do printers plug into the wall as well as into the computer? I can't find where the plug in would go, but I thought I had a plug into the wall . . . . Or do I just have a bad memory?

This may sound like a dumb question but: How do I get more computer literate?

I found the Lexmark disk, and there was something about inserting the disk under the scanner and camera option of the control panel. I will see what happens when I insert the disk.

The disk is not working. I keep clicking on "Add Device." Then, it says to use the "Have Disk" option (if my printer is not listed). But after the disk whirs around like it's downloading the file, I can not locate any sort of scanner connection. And it tells me the file "jerena lexmark" which is the file it says it will be in can not be found. While "downloading" (or sounds like it is) it indicates it is creating this "jerena lexmark" file. I went into "jerena" and found a list of Lexmark stuff as if it had loaded and connected. But, later, when I try to find that file, it says no such file exists. What am I doing wrong?

I can ask my family, but I hate to keep bugging them. They are all busy or sleeping now or don't know, either. Seriously, where does a person go to figure this stuff out wihtout asking someone else all the time? At the moment, I can't find the info that came with my lap top, so that's my own fault. . . .

Thought this info might be helpful to others who struggle with computer issues, so wanted to post, anyway.

My lap top user guide tells me to install disk and follow maufactureres instructions. . .I can check on website, too. So. . . .Let's see what website tells me.

Website says to unistall the scanner if I used a CD to download. (They are saying I probably downloaded the XP driver, which is what that was.) They have a driver that is new that is Vista compatible, which answers my question. Go on website and download correct drivers. The deal is, I can't find that file that they put it in now. So not sure if I need to unistall or no. We are to disconnect scanner completely until drivers are downloaded. . . . I have been searching for the file from the CD I used, but can not find it. So, not sure what to do. If wrong drivers were loaded through the CD, the printer will malufunction. Pray I figure this out or someone can help me find that file or I can figure out if it doesn't exist.

They say to plug in all printer cables and turn power on. . .but how to turn power on? It says the installation will automatically continue when I plug in the USB cable, only it doesn't. So I assume the power isn't on. Need to quit for tonight, so exited the installation.

It was a simple matter of needing to download the drivers. I found the AC adapter the other night but wasn't sure what it was for. It goes in a big hole at the back of the printer. When we came to the right screen, I plugged everything in, and now the printer is workign fine, after we finished the download. Just go on the Lexmark website and find the printer number listed that matches yours, and then you can download the drivers.

Sorry Sis, didn't catch this earlier. Yes, could've warned you of that, I had the disk for W98 for my printer and XP didn't have the drivers for the HP I got, so had to download them from thier site, as my computer would not recognixe this printer either.

Once the drivers were installed, my computer was able to read and recognixe the printer and then be ready to use it.

AMEN!!

God Bless!!
