As some of you may know the Pacific Northwest was just hammered with a storm out of the Pacific Ocean. The Olympic peninsula was particularly hard hit, gusts of up to 90 mph and over 10 inches of rain in a 24 hr. period of time with six inches of snow already on the ground.
Our son and his wife had gone after supplies to prepare for the storm. Town is 20 min. away and by the time they got out of the store, they had to come home in a blinding snow storm. They got home safely and called us to say they were prepared. Sunday night the storm hit with a vengence.
Our property has two ancient spruce trees near the house, one on either side. The one clossest to the house is huge. It takes 4 grown people, arms outstretced and touching hands to circle the circumference of the tree. About 3 am Mon. morning they were awakened to a horrendous cracking sound, the house shook and they thought the house was coming down on top of them. That ancient tree came down. The way the tree cracked caused it to fall away from the house, if it had come down on the house it would have wiped out the bedrooms and taken my son and his young family. The huge toothpick that was left, kept the tree from kicking back into the house. And because it split the root ball was left in the ground, otherwise it would have severly damaged the foundation of the house and left a gapping hole.
The tree took out a big maple and large hemlock. It missed the pump house and the old barn, Zeb doesn't know how it missed all that, it shouldn't have. Our neighbors came running from their homes expecting the worst after they heard tree go down. Praise God, He brought them safely through the worst storm we have had.
Zeb was able to call us and let us know they were safe and what had happened. After that they lost phone service. They are flooded, the roads are closed and no idea when they will be reopened or even get power back on, yet my family is safe in God's hands. Though I cannot get to them or talk to them, I know God is in control. Praise be to God!!!!
As I reflected on all that has transpired, there is no way I could ever pay the debt that my Lord so graciouslly took upon Himself on my behalf. He has stepped in time and time again bringing forth miracles in my life and that of my family. I could never begin to think to repay, yet He doesn't want anything in return, except to honor him with our lives in love. It overwhelms me because all I have to give him is myself, totally and completely and I am blessed beyond measure, I have more riches than I could possibly hope for and yet my desire for him only increases with a passion each passiing day. I don't celebrate Christmas once a year, I embrace and live it daily. I don't need Christmas I have it within me, in my grasp, and it pours out of me on a daily basis. I treasure the gift of life in me and the abundance therein. God is magnificient!!!
