Verses about love

(Gal 5:22-23 NRSV) By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.

(Deu 10:12-13 NRSV) So now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you? Only to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to keep the commandments of the LORD your God and his decrees that I am commanding you today, for your own well-being.

(Deu 10:19 NRSV) You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

(Prov 10:12 NRSV) Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.

(Mat 5:46 NRSV) For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

(Luke 6:35 NRSV) But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

(John 13:35 NRSV) By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

(Rom 12:9-10 NRSV) Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; 10 love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor.

(Rom 14:15-16 NRSV) If your brother or sister is being injured by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. Do not let what you eat cause the ruin of one for whom Christ died. 16 So do not let your good be spoken of as evil.

(1 Cor 13:1-7 NRSV) If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

First of all, God created "love". I John 4:9,10 Love explains: 1) why God creates – because He loves, He creates people to love: 2) why God cares – because He loves them, He cares for sinful people: 3) why we are free to receive and reject – because He wants a loving response from us; 4) why Christ died – His love for us caused Him to seek a solution to the problem of sin; and 5) why we receive eternal life – His love expresses itself to us FOREVER. "In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten (unique) Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the satisfaction for our sins."

I John 4: 19 God’s love is the source of all human love. It is not natural for man to love God. We love Him because He first loved us." This is a process..the more I get to "know" God the more I love Him but it always amazes me that He can love me!

I John 4:11 God’s love for us gives us the capacity to love others. "Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought to love one another." We are motivated by His love for us.

I John 4:18 God’s love for us removes all fear. We can resolve our fears by focusing on His immeasurable love for us. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear; because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love."

Famous "Love Chapter": I Corinthians 13: 1-8 (This defines real love.) Love is more important than all spiritual gifts exercised within the church body. Love makes our actions and gifts useful and love is available to all. Society confuses lust with love. God’s kind of love is directed outwardly toward others…not ourselves. It must be unselfish – giving love expecting nothing in return, which is not natural for us. This is God’s kind of love. The closer we get to God, the more unselfish we become in loving others.

John 15:1-10 Tells of God’s great love for all. Vs 9 Jesus says: "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you: continue in my love." Vs 10 is the key verse: "If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in His love."

John 3:16 – God’s wondrous expression of "love". "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This is GOD’S GREAT LOVE STORY!

John 15: 11 - Explains the results – "…that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full." That inward peace and joy that comes from abiding in His great love!

John 15: 12 - We are commanded to love one another, as He has loved us – to the extent that His love was so great that He laid down His life for us. (Vs. 13)

Ephesians 5: 21-33 - God gives His principles regarding the love between husband and wife; how a husband is to love his wife and how the wife is to love her husband. This is so beautiful to me.

The Song of Solomon tells of the love between a bridegroom (King Solomon) and his bride, to affirm the sanctity of marriage. It also pictures God’s love for His people. The key verse in this book is: "I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine. (6:3) This Book is an allegory of God’s love for Israel and the church. Also a literal story about married love. Here we can learn about love, marriage and sex as well as seeing God’s overwhelming love for His people.

Solomon 8: 6,7 - shows that love is as strong as death itself; it cannot be killed by time or disaster. It cannot be bought; it is freely given; it is priceless and must be shared within the guidelines that God provides. It urges that we accept the love of our spouse as God’s gift. Make your love a reflection of the perfect love that comes from God.

Solomon 8: 11,12 – in a good marriage there is no private property, everything is to be shared.

Solomon 8: 14 – the faithfulness of our marital love should reflect God’s perfect faithfulness to us.

The Lord reproves him whom he loves. [Proverbs 3:12]

Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses. [Proverbs 10:12]

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in

him should not parish but have eternal life. [John 3:16]

If you love me you will keep my commandments. [John 14:15]

This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has

no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. [John 15:13]

You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I

say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you be sons

of your Father who is in heaven. . . . For if you love those who love you, what reward

have you? [Gospel according to St. Matthew 5:43]

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your

mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it. You shall love

your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend the law and the

prophets. [Gospel according to St. Matthew 22:37]

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my

commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s

commandments and abide in His love. [Gospel according to St. John 15:9]

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a

clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all

knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am

nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not

love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does

not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong but

rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all

things.

Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease as for

knowledge, it will pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect; but when the perfect

comes, the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I reasoned

like a child, I thought like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For

now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall

understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these

three; but the greatest of these is love. [The First Letter of St. Paul to Corinthians 13:1-13]

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No man has ever seen God;

if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. [First Letter of St. John 4:11-12]

Once again, thank you - this time a copied and pasted into my own document! You have touched my heart and I'll share my very favorite verse... 1 Corinithans 13:12 "For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection [of reality as in a riddle or enigma}, but THEN [when perfection comes] we SHALL SEE IN REALITY AND FACE TO FACE! Now I know inpart (imperfectly), but THEN I SHALL KNOW AND UNDERSTAND FULLY AND CLEARLY (HALLELUJAH!!!) even inthe same manner as I have been fully known and understood [by God]. (emphasis mine) The Amplified Bible
Thank you for sending me through my bible to find the verses that resound in my soul and lift me closer to my Jesus. God bless you!
