This is an old sermon on Forgiveness

Some Verses on Forgiveness

on the cross:And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they do." (Luke 23:34)

Jesus has authority to forgive sins:"Her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little." And Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven. ..... Your faith has saved you; go in peace." (Luke 7:47-48, 50)

When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralysed man, "My son, your sins are forgiven." (Mark 2:5)

authority given to the disciples:And when he had said this, he breathed o*n them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." (John 20:22-23)

all sorts of sins forgiven:Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. (Matt 12:31)

repentance essential:And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every o*ne of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)

believing in Jesus essential:Every o*ne who believes in Jesus receives forgiveness of sins through his name. (Acts 10:43)

continuing cleansing:If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with o*ne another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)

confession:If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9)

turning from darkness and from the power of Satan: I [Jesus] am sending you to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me. (Acts 26:17-18)

redemption - he has bought us with his blood [by his death]:In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace which he lavished upon us. (Eph 1:7-8)

He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Col 1:13)

blessing:"Blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not reckon his sin." (Rom 4:7-8)

responsibility:He said to him, "Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy o*n you." (Mark 5:19)

forgiveness requires a blood sacrifice:.... without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. (Heb 9:22)

for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matt 26:28)

complete forgiveness - no need for further sacrifices for sin:And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws o*n their hearts, and write them o*n their minds," then he adds, "I will remember their sins and their misdeeds no more." Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. (Heb 10:15-18)

confidence, assurance, and a clean conscience:Since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus .... and since we have a great priest .... let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. (Heb 10:19-22)

God's faithfullness is our basis for mutual encouragement:Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stir up o*ne another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging o*ne another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Heb 10:23-25)

forgive o*ne another:Leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (Matt 5:24)

And forgive us our debts, As we also have forgiven our debtors; (Matt 6:12)

how many times? Then Peter came up and said to him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?" Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven. (Matt 18:21-22)

get yourself right first:First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye. (Luke 6:42)

healing and forgiveness related:Therefore confess your sins to o*ne another, and pray for o*ne another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. (James 5:16)

Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. (James 5:14-15)

press o*n towards maturity:Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go o*n to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, with instruction about ablutions, the laying o*n of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. (Heb 6:1-3)
