How do you recognize the Holy Spirit?

Last night I went to a laying on of the hands service at my church. It was my first such experience so I really didn't know what to expect. I just knew I needed to hear God and I went to get closer to Him. The pastor baptized me in the Holy Spirit. I didn't speak in tongues. I don't really think that's what my purpose was. Plus I was thinking of my children who were at home by themselves (They are old enough-I just wanted them to experience this) so I was a little distracted. All I know is that I was shaking like a leaf while he annointed me with oil and prophesizing to me. I had the strangest sensation all the way home and through the night. It was like I was in the most peaceful state I have ever been in. Nothing bothered me. I have been praying that I could focus more on the Lord and not on my problems and I am able to do that suddenly. He is so good. I'm not at all sure what that was all about. Can anyone share a similiar experience or some wisdom?

What you've experienced was simply the power and manifest presence of the Holy Spirit moving upon you. You'll know you've been filled to overflowing then you speak in tongues. But you need to open your mouth and let it out! Everyone reacts differently to God's power. I shake like crazy, I get 'crunches' [an inside tickling in my tummy], sometimes I weep, sometimes I don't 'feel' anything. My husband doesn't shake at all. I fall down like a bowl of jelly when overpowered by the Holy Spirit, my hubby falls like an oak tree with a big THUD! I've seen lots of other manifestations too. Some people moan aloud, some say words like **!! or AHHH!!, some dance, some holler, some run. We're all different and we all react differently to God's presence.

When we are obedient to God and lay hands on people for pray, God's Spirit flows THROUGH US to touch them. WE get blessed too! I work at our local Healing Room, so we pray for people a lot and wow, we get SO BLESSED and people are healed!

Keep seeking Him and He'll continue to pour out His power, anointing, presence and Spirit into you and one of these days the river of living waters will pour from your mouth and you'll hear the most beautiful language come forth!! God is SO AWESOME and AMAZING and never fails to DELIGHT me!!
